Such a shame you never gave us the sound. I ended up buying a VTR a couple of months ago. Paid £2100 for an '05 with 30k on it. To be fair it is like new, 2 owners, with a full Honda Main Dealer Service History and the fastest colour...Red haha. Sounds awesome with 'Hawk' cans. For those with a passing interest they received an update in 2001 that raised the bars a little for comfort and added 2 litres to the tank...I also suspect they improved the fuel consumption over the earlier versions but there's some argument that Honda may have reduced the BHP in the process. Either way, it's as fast as you like with a real pleasure of an engine and one of the greatest sound tracks in motorcycling. The earlier versions were also said to have soft front suspenders but my F3 has the best suspension I have experienced. They have a reputation for thirst, with the biggest carbs ever fitted to a production bike. I'm consistently seeing the fuel warning light at 125 miles at which point it takes 13 litres to fill again, leaving 6 litres unused, so easy 150 miles on the 19 litre version without worrying.
If anybody buys one you will be advised to change the camchain tensioners although mine is still rocking the original autos, playing russian roulette they reckon. The rectifier was also a weak link in the earlier version but swapping for something better isn't a big deal. Again the early versions had no heat sink and boiled themselves to death. Mine will remain a toy for grin inducing blasts when it's dry. They will be a classic in the future. Now is the time to buy...stupid cheap for so much enjoyment and pleasure of ownership. I also get more admiring comments than I am used to.

Bought one at Christmas... 2000 model 33000 miles £1700, scorpion cans are ace sound mint on mine vibrates the neighbours awake... Thought I'd made a mistake I really wanted a aprillia shiver for comfort... Mine has bar raisers so quite comfy. Battery died over winter now starts fine..
Just been out for my first ride up to Northumberland... It was spectacular... Fuel ⛽ light came on at 90 miles...I crawled in to hexam for more fuel then home to Appleby... Should be in Austria 🇦🇹 now sadly have to wait for pandemic to go away..
    Cheers
    Stay safe..

Nice bike... I have a 2004 VTR. About the choke - you can turn the plastic ring where the pin slides in to adjust the friction. Turn it clockwise a little, that should do the trick and the choke pin stays where it is.

Good seeing overviews of other folks storms. If those are the original decals, that's the '97 model I believe, based on the sales brochures.
I'd be reluctant to switch the original cans, however those ones with the pipe bend do let you service the brakes easier.

Quite agricultural, but a real bikers bike if that makes sense :)

Won't start? Put the kick stand up mate..and
    Pull in the clutch
Also after market cans? Not without re jetting the carbs lol...probs. runs like crap.
Aftermarket cans equals alot of work re jetting carbs, syncing etc.
Keep the original cans. It still sounds like a twin should and won't annoy yer neighbors.
Spend it on an after market seat and clip on bars.
Great bike at any price. Mind you pre 2000 should be avoided.
In short, avoid pre 2000 bikes, make sure to have the cam tensioners replaced.
