@WolfHurricane897 had Bam Bam not snitch on him due to his refusal of putting him over, we would've got Matt vs Bam Bam at WM instead of a mixed tag match involving Dink and Luna(who btw should've had their own separate match at WM)
If anyone brought a bit of the Joker and John Wayne Gacy's clown Pogo too life in the world of pro wrestling. It was Matt Borne. Excellent job from his entrance music, promos, smiles to wickedly maniacal faces. To also being one helluva in ring worker. It's a character that could have gone A LOT further and even stood the test of time today with it's relevancy. Had Matt not succumb too his personal demons. RIP Matt what you accomplished with this character will NEVER be forgotten.
Matt delivered on every front. The promos were compelling as hell, his entrance was great, but once he got in the ring he was all business. I wish he lived to endure the fame he deserved, but he is resting in peace.
Bourne as heel Doink was such a once in a lifetime character/performance. Bourne had the necessary demons to pull off that unsettling threatening tone.
Heel Doink, played by Bourne was great. Menacing and believably dangerous, despite being dressed as a clown. Quality promo's, solid, knowledgeable wrestling ability and bulky enough to appear threatening and powerful
I absolutely loved this Doink the Clown. I love how uneasy he makes you feel. And he doesn't have to be an edgy blood covered killee clown. He looks like a regular clown.I love the psychology of the character. What is one of the most common phobias? Chlorophobia the fear of clowns, so for some He's already in your head. The clown get up lets their opponent put their guard down thinking they're facing a joke. And Doink takes advantage of that to show how good in ring he is.
He should have stayed evil. He was at his best when he was pulling mean tricks on the babyfaces. Also another unique thing about him was he was a great technical wrestler. Back in late 1992/early 1993 I was gobsmacked that we actually had a clown who knew how to have potentially great matches.
Better late than never. I knew he was good as a kid, but now looking back i realize the untapped potential this guy had. Could have been another iconic WWE character like the Undertaker if the man had had his shit together
I had a yard sale today, and if all people guess who stopped by to pick up some stuff? I didn't know him and he said he is Doink the Clown! We spoke for a bit but that was so cool meeting him. He literally twisted his knee and his foot backwards right in front of me. He was hilarious. He lives here in Vero Beach, Florida now.
No, sadly the guy in this video has been dead for about a decade. His name was Matt Borne, and I think he was based closer to Texas (although he traveled around). There are so many Doinks nowadays that I couldn’t trace which one you’re talking about.
@@federicodistefano6891 I think so, I can't remember his name. He said he was "Doink the Clown" apparently there were about 11 of them I later learned. He seemed to be a contractor now I think. 👍
@Federico Di Stefano I doubt Keirn would be talking about being Doink lol, it was maybe 0.5% of his long career. Maybe the guy is Ray Apollo, the man that took over the gimmick when Borne was fired.
I did not appreciate him back in the day. Its not until later years when i revisit the good ol 90s wrestling i understood the whole thing a bit better. Back in the day i just thought it was a dumb as fuck gimmik that did not really work. Matt Bornes great subliminal acting just went over my head back then. So....ye...i dont think i am the only one, its a shame. Having a clown gimmic cant be easy but Matt was probably the best one to do it, unfortunately he never really got credit for it until after it was over.
I’m Native American and I watched this tatanka wrestler fight 2 times, and it was with some dude named mizzen and both times he lost within a minute lmao
Matt's Doink was a wrestler who just happened to be a Clown too, where the others were more of a Clown portraying a Wrestler. I don't remember where I heard that but it stuck with me
Acts 2:38 KJV - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Heel Doink really was the closest thing WWE ever got to having a Joker-like character.
Well he did get inspired by Caesar Romero from the old Batman show from the 60’s.
hes actually inspired by pennywise from the tv it novie not joker
Doink was a great heel. Then came the face turn, Borne being replaced, and the character got ridiculous.
Bourne got replaced because he was fired for drug use.

@@JaEm2162 Bam Bam vs Matt Bourne would had been fantastic in itself..
Unfortunately it ended up being Bam vs Phil Apollo or Steve Lombardi.. 😞
And it killed the gimmick.
Matt Bourne was ahead of his years. Fantastic delivery.
He pretty scary3.5
@@darlenedunlap8066 that means he did his job well. he's supposed to be scary as the character is an evil clown.
He needs a posthumous acting award fo real
Talent
That's not Matt.

This isn't Matt.
Matt said he watched a lot of Cesar Romero when he was working on how he would do the character
@@therockazoid1723It is. It was Matt Borne as Doink up until December of 1993 👍

Way ahead of his time. Future wrestlers can learn a lot from his promo.

Yes
Doink was the man as a heel. I think he got cheered too much.
well HE got fired. I don't think anyone else could have brought the heel charisma he had which is why they made Ray Apollo turn face.
@@carl5381 Actually Doink turned face while Borne was still portraying it, when he turned on Lawler it was Borne that did the segment.
Doink the clown was awesome as a heel.
Doink one of my favorite wrestler
Serious jake the snake vibes
Doink look like He dosen't need a Title to get Over, Only Strong Opponents.
Could you imagine how dark Doink would be in the Attitide era with Bourne?
… damn, that was good. Never saw this promo before and it caught me off guard how serious he got at the end.
Awesome!!! Matt Borne was great! It sucks that he is starting to get credit for his work again now that it's too late. Very sad.

Crazy to think this was filmed 7 months before I was born!
Matt Borne was so awesome as the heel Doink. But as a kid, he gave me the chills
I wish they would bring back this gimmick.
would've loved a halloween themed situation, they seriously could've made it really dark

I’m sure he was a decent replacement Doink, but there really was only one true Doink. The Borne Doink.
What a great idea for a wrestler. Make him a clown that you take seriously. Wonderful

The Mirror Mirror off the wall parody was that of Disney's "Snow White"!
Heel Doink reminds me of the Joker.

Remember Jake the snake’s comment about not leading to shout in promos?

Fire!
We live in a society
Doink has some oven mitts on him. Probably from his big Josh lumber Jack days.
Seth Rollins 3 decades ago
They could've done more with Matt, he was hilarious Babyface or heel, he had that it factor low key
I'm actually Surprised Wwe Had an Evil clown. He Even Had Fake Clown Parts to attack opponents with. Where is Doink Now?
Playing the games in the past I wish him and the undertaker had Heat lmaooo
