There’s no better tribute to a legend than doing their song justice. Rarely is this song sung well and Sohyang hit it out of the park. Sohyang did Whitney proud with this performance.
Not only insanely talented and a seasoned vocalist but she’s also a cancer survivor and a humble & kind soul - this woman in my eyes is above all the pop stars out there

They both have different ways of singing but Whitney Houston is known as "The Voice" for a reason.

in this world. She sings with all her heart and soul. My favorite part was the ending where
she did the R&B and Soul. It was so touching and emotional that I couldn't help but to cry.

Sohyang - Arirang alone!! My absolute fave performance of hers for so many reasons.
So Hyang is one of the best vocalists of our time. She should be known ALL OVER the world. She hits the higher registers with no effort, it’s remarkable.
Hi, In 2018, Oprah Winfrey overheard this performance of So Hyang on CZcams and was so surprised and moved that she told David Foster her story. David Foster made a tremendous effort to meet her after hearing this song of So Hyang and she performed with him in Japan that year in November at his earnest invitation. David Foster, who performed with So Hyang, said the performance with her was the best and was really happy to meet the incredible and fantastic top singer in the world and perform together. And, he said, hopes to continue to be with her. Thanks. From N.Y
You only missed one part of the story. It was Whitney Houston's former manager who first heard So Hyang singing this song on CZcams, and then he showed her to Oprah. Oprah then showed her to David Foster, who was so inspired he asked So Hyang to join him for eight concerts at Tokyo's "Blue Note Club" in November 2018. Foster places her right next to Whitney. So you want to know who the best singer in the world is now? So Hyang. Sony music tried to get her to sign a contract in October 2020 but So Hyang prefers not being quite _that_ famous and wants to maintain her relationship with God and now no longer chases after fame and fortune. So she said no to Sony Music. How many singers in this world would do that???

@@ToddSauve thx, but it's somehow strange that it wasn't mentioned in Western media or maybe So Hyang isn't that popular outside Asia. To be honest I only know her because of CZcams- Never heard of her in TV, Radio etc.
@@leroyrs The Western media know virtually nothing about her. If she showed up on the Grammys _everyone_ would be talking about her non-stop! You will only find her on CZcams unless you live in South Korea. She doesn't want the big time music lifestyle because she is a very serious Christian and is convinced it would destroy her spiritually. She has a sister-in-law who is the guitarist for DNCE and they talked about all the pitfalls of signing record deals and she was repulsed by it all.

Sohyang always takes all the cover songs to a whole new level, even her Korean songs like Breathe, Home, Hug Me, Mona Lisa, etc etc. She has them rearranged to suit her power vocal range. Even the O Holy Night has been rearranged and you can see how it blew everyone away and it is just a Christmas carol.
She's one of the greatest singers (alive) on earth right now, it's a shame that she doesn't have worldwide fame compared to many other people on her level of pure vocal talent.

Guys you have to check out Sohyang's Bridge Over Troubled Water during a Michael Bolton special with him watching on set.. You could check out Jay Park who sang "When A Man Loves A Women" & Moon Myung Jin's "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" on that episode as well. OMG you will totally be blown away!!! For real!! Trust me!! So Hyang was the 1st South Korean who sang the US National Anthem at an NBA game but she had a sad childhood as well.. Shortly after getting married she was diagnosed with uterine cancer, due to the early detection, she was able to survive the cancer, but was rendered infertile. Known as who is considered one of the best female solo artist in Korea. Cheers!

Fun fact: So Hyang sings gospel music I'm so glad you guys discovered her. Another singer Ailee is known for singing Whitney's songs but by far So Hyang has more soul and sings the song her own way which is what you should do when you sing covers or perform other people's songs. She's amazing💕

She makes every song her own and never disappoints, most underrated singer in the world hands down, all her masked singer performances are really good and her take on arirang was amazing too, if y’all like her English covers her bridge over troubled water and you raise me up is good too :)
Her confidence is from her 20 years of experience in the music industry and she is not a newcomer she is a well-respected diva in South Korea haha :)

Ooooh you gotta react to Sohyang's version of Arirang! It's a hopeful song about the reunification of Korea and the korean people so it's already pretty heavy but Sohyang's interpretation of it will absolutely take your breath away.I cried when I first listened to it (and almost every single time after that..) so watch out Ambitious Ace lmao

You have just touched the tip of the iceberg that is So Hyang. She has a magical voice that has given me goosebumps and made me tear up many times. I hope you check out more of her music. I recommend Arirang Alone, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Home, Breath and Where Are You. Those are some of my favorites but there is so so so much more.

So Hyang is magical!
Personally I think she started the song off a little too low for her range but it gave her way more freedom to modulate higher where she really shines.
Her voice is so unique... her vowel shapes are sometimes very wide and it gives an unexpectedly folksy vibe to this song.
i like the guy on the right that just kept repeating various whoof, whoop, oooh, & ughh noises, lolz. that's how the climax of this song left me the first time i watched this performance.
i was scared for like, negative two seconds that she effed up with her breath control & belting... then i remembered who this was & she kept climbing the eff up them steps with that insanely pitch perfect voice of her's, haha.

@@user-tu1jq3hq9t 휘트니가 라이브를 못하는건 아니지.. 40대 이후 얘기하는 거라면 목이 상했을때라 어쩔수 없었음. 하지만 그건 실력이라 보기에는 물리적인 육체의 문제임. 우사인 볼트가 나이먹으면서 느려지는 것처럼.. 개인적으로 가수는 전성기 시절로 따지는게 맞다고 봄 인간은 다 노화되니까. 그렇다고 쳤을때 휘트니 20대 30대때 전성기 시절 라이브 영상보면 역대급으로 잘했음. 절대 라이브 못하는 가수가 아님. 소향을 좋아한다고 해서 타가수를 까진 말자.

She didn't miss anything on the 1rst verse at all! Delaying the beat is intentional. Musicians do it all the time. It's where the "shuffle" (blues,rock,country)
& swing (jazz, big band) rhythms come from! Playing "behind the beat."

So true. Once I left a not so nice comment in Katrina Velarde Somewhere Over The Rainbow. The crowds were screamin her name as she was singing. To me, that is total disrespect to the singer (as if you are not interested in her singing rather than her being a celebrity) as well as to fans who want to listen to her voice. I love Korean audiences as they generally are very respectful especially audiences of Sohyang. I was told by Gremlin (who attended like tens or hundred of Sohyang performances) that listening to her live is so so much better than over CZcams. It is surreal.
