Swayambhu means 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭.
About 3 kms away from Thamel, Swayam is located in a hill from where Kathmandu city is apparently visible.
It’s equally revered by both Buddhist & Hindu devotees. As per locals believe, it provides peace & stability to the land & people.
It’s also known as the 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 due to the presence of large number of monkeys in the temple complex.
It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site since1979.
The tibetan name for the site means ‘Sublime trees.’
