    Subscribe so you don't miss any ADHD parenting tips from the Raising an ADHD Child series! I will be posting a video on ADHD parenting every few weeks. Let's work together at building better relationships with our exceptional and strong-willed children.
    In this video, my son and I review our experience with the RE-VIBE Anti-distraction wristwear. RE-VIBE creators at Fokuslabs sent us the device in exchange for our honest and unbiased review. As you all know, I would never recommend something that had not worked for us personally. Before accepting the device, I made it clear to Fokuslabs that I would simply return the device and not post a review if we didn't see any benefit. But, you guys, we saw SO MUCH benefit! Watch the video to see what I mean.

    What a wonderful little man you have! This sounds like a useful tool. I have to remind my daughter to focus quite often, and I see her feelings being hurt a little every time no matter how gentle I try to be.

  • @LivingTreeHouse
    @LivingTreeHouse Před 6 lety +4

    He is adorable and smart! My only concern is the open label of ADHD. I’m not criticizing and certainly do not know what would be best. I feel like kids may identify with the label more than what is greater, which is their own unique gifts.

    • @ProjectHappyHome
      @ProjectHappyHome  Před 6 lety +8

      I understand your point, my friend! It takes conscious effort to boost the positives of ADHD or any label. But labels are defined by those who speak of them. I choose to empower the label - not accept the lay definition, which is rather limited and inaccurate. We have presented it from a more medical perspective, so we can openly discuss his brain development and remove some of the shame kids may feel from the awareness of their differences. Because whether you label or not, they are acutely aware that they are not the same as their peers. As a 2e kid, he’s even more aware than most. I emphasize the beautiful advantages of his difference in cognition as well - like his brilliant creativity, his easy mindfulness, his swift empathy, and his gregarious spirit. We can empower these labels - we needn’t hide them. It is a physiological difference that produces real world challenges and advantages. By letting him know what is happening in his brain, by letting his coaches know, and, later, perhaps even peers, we can build a scaffold of understanding, support, and amazement around him. He calls himself a superkid! We need to destigmatize these labels and make them matter-of-fact and three dimensional. 🙂

    • @LivingTreeHouse
      @LivingTreeHouse Před 6 lety

      This may work best for you! Do what works for your family. I know a friend of mine used the bracelet and she found a lot of positives with it. Wishing you the best! I think I read too where the condition gets better as the child gets older.

    • @tinawoman
      @tinawoman Před 5 lety +1

      Living Tree or it gets worse.
      I was unaware I had ADHD until I was an adult. In fact, it wasn’t until after I became a mom that it became a serious issue in my life, with so many balls in the air to juggle. Then once we started homeschooling, ay yi yi!
      But I have learned so much about my brain and how us “shinies” are special and being ADHD, while definitely a serious challenge, can also have some wonderful positives. For example, ADHD people can be some of the most creative people around! I am proud of my different brain now.
      And I know now that the key to living with ADHD is to learn how to work WITH our differently wired brains, not against them. And that starts with identifying that we have ADHD.
      No one would tell a person with epilepsy or autism to not label themselves. They need to know about what they are dealing with so that they can properly handle their disorder. Likewise, a person with ADHD needs to know, and yes, label their disorder. Otherwise we end up just feeling like we are stupid or failures because we cannot do things the way neurotypical people do things. But the reality is that we CAN’T do things the same because our brains are wired differently. And we get help a lot sooner when we identify who we truly are.

    • @tennisgirl608
      @tennisgirl608 Před 5 lety

      End the stigma around the label by using it! I have ADHD and just started medical school. With the label, I can get accommodations to help me learn at my best :)

    I bought this years ago but my child disliked the feel of a bracelet plus he was very young and the cost made me paranoid of him losing it at school. he is 10 now and we've been brainstorming on how to help him again and I remembered I had this bracelet somewhere and I found it in a drawer. I'm a little less concerned about the cost now since it sat in a drawer for years without it doing us much good so I came online to look for instructions for it to remind myself. thanks for the video. fingers crossed it helps us now.

    Thanks for the review. I am sending my ReVibe Connect back for so many reasons. 1) The cost is WAY too high for what is provided. 2) The battery is very weak and short-lived given the functionality they are trying to provide with the watch. 3) There are so many other watches that do (close to) what the Revibe does and so much more. I have researched a watch that has 'just enough' functionality to help but not distract my ADHD son and have not found the perfect option. However, before I spend $200 on this watch the company has many things (previously mentioned are a few) that need to be addressed.
