One thing that I really like about Lobotomy Corporation's core suppression music is that they fit the respective sephirah's mental breakdown well. Yesod's music starts with low and rhythmical beats, showing his rationality. But as the day progresses, the music breaks down further, introducing unstable and "broken" music effects, showing his anxiety and how he can't hold it anymore. As the day reaches the end, the low and calm notes are all gone, replaced by even more unstable and broken notes. Overall, this music really portrays "anxiety" and "breakdown" really well.

On that day, however, no one was stopping him from entering Training. Because that day was not a good day. Sure, he'd made preparations to be locked out. He'd brought a crowbar onto the elevator, to pry it open in case Hod detected he was on board and told it to keep moving. But the doors creaked right open on their own, the Department's main lobby presenting itself to him. The room was empty; even the clerks had scattered. "Stay alert," Johnson reminded himself as he put aside the crowbar and readied his weapon - an E.G.O. rifle manufactured in the depths of the facility, and for that matter one of the corporation’s best armaments. That Johnson was allowed to carry a “Laetitia” at all was proof of his reputation as Information Team captain. Leveling the rifle, he sprang from the elevator and swung his aim to the left. Then to the right. No movement, no sounds. He was alone. At least - at least that was the impression. Could never be certain in this hellhole. He ran for the first location he spotted that seemed defensible, a restroom. Kicking the door open and jabbing the light switch, he cleared the room quickly. A toilet, a sink, an embroidered pillow to scream into (“Find joy in the little things!”), a hand dryer. No one here. Then he heard sobbing. He stiffened, winced - but forced himself to stay rational. He breathed in slow, deep, held - and as he exhaled, he listened, evaluated. The crying was a woman’s - not a baby’s, so it wasn’t that abomination in Central Command. He felt himself relax a little. Then his pulse picked up again, as he realized he had nothing in his memory for the crying woman’s voice. It could be anything - Johnson breathed in again, and this time, he tried to make out the source of the cries. The sound was echoing through the wall. Unless the restroom directly adjoined a containment unit, he was fine - unless something had escaped its containment unit and was about to - Johnson winced hard, gritting his teeth, internally screaming at himself to keep it together. Try a stimulus. He pressed the flush lever on the toilet. Whoever was on the wall’s opposite side heard the sound and stopped sobbing, then there were muffled words. A young woman; Johnson couldn’t identify what she was saying but the terror in her voice was clear enough. She asked a question, then repeated it louder before her words disintegrated back into pitiful sobs. Johnson still didn’t recognize the voice, but the behavior was unmistakable. Desperation, pleading, terror to the point of mental regression. Why hadn’t he correctly interpreted the sounds sooner. Remember, Johnson chided himself, not everything down here is a monster. They just outnumber us. Johnson sighed and left the restroom, still glancing instinctively to either side. Then he found the room adjoining: “Conference Room 1.” It was unlocked. The lights inside were off, and Johnson kept his gun at his hip, trying to ignore the itching sensation that was building up under his gloves. He realized it was the rifle in his hands, whispering to him. He’d had his hands on it for too long. He tried to focus on the woman, who was still pleading desperately to the metal box at the head of the conference table. Finally Johnson heard a synthesized voice over the earpiece: “Denied.” “Come again?” Johnson instantly regretted talking back to the Manager, but this was his skin on the line anyway if the Mike Charlie turned violent. “Mental corruption is only 32%,” the voice replied plainly. Termination not indicated. She’s just scared, Johnson. Talk to her.” So it was true. Johnson had heard rumors that the Manager was able to directly monitor mental corruption levels now. That didn’t feel as reassuring as he expected it to. He slung up his rifle, only then realizing that he had started to feel spiders crawling underneath his uniform. The sensations vanished as the weapon was put away. One thing they had warned him about during orientation was that E.G.O. equipment was as unpleasant as it was powerful. Focus. Try to calm the woman down. “First day on the job?” he offered. The woman shuddered, then froze like an ambushed rabbit. Johnson took a step forward and waited. After a couple moments the woman answered: “S-she promised to train me today. She promised she’d tell me what to do if - if - if -“ Her voice started to quaver again. “All the AIs in the facility have shut down,” Johnson told her. “Manager’s working on bringing them back online. Where’s the rest of the Training Team?” The woman searched her memory for a moment, looking at the metal box again. It used to be Hod, obviously, though with its power off and its limbs retracted it more resembled a brown mini-fridge than a robot. “A… Ashely came an hour ago. Told everyone to follow her to the elevator. I-I was trying to get Hod to come with, t-then the elevator closed-“ Lucky idiot, Johnson thought. An hour ago, Captain Ashely from the Safety Team had been radioed by the Manager to respond to a breach in the Training Department’s lower level. Her failure to report back, and the loss of contact with the Training Team, was why Johnson had been sent here. “W-where are they?” the woman asked suddenly, now looking at Johnson. Her eyes slowly widened, her voice quaking as she went on, “W-where’s Velasquez? J-Jacob?” “I don’t know,” Johnson lied. They were most certainly still in the Training Department’s lower level, what was left of them anyway. “But we’ll find them. What’s your name?” And the woman was about to answer, when the door hissed open behind Johnson. There were no footsteps. His blood ran cold and as he spun around, he shouldered the rifle. The chimes returned instantly, his vision blurring, eyes drying out and pupils shrinking to points as the rifle took aim for him -
“OH MY GOD DON’T SHOOT IT!” The woman’s hand was on Johnson’s rifle, forcing it down. Johnson blinked a couple times, his vision clearing. Standing on the back of a chair was a little white bird, not unlike a long-tailed tit with an ugly red splotch on its breast. Johnson’s guts twisted as he realized how close he’d come to firing. “D-don’t shoot the bird,” the woman squeaked. “T-that’s the first thing Hod tells all of us.” O-02-56 was the closest thing the facility had to a mascot. Nicknamed the Punishing Bird in its files, it had a reputation for escaping its containment unit seemingly whenever it felt like it and flitting through the corridors. Johnson remembered when Hod had warned him, too, many months ago - though it felt like a decade - to never antagonize the bird. No one said why and the Information Department’s own records on the subject were full of redactions. “You’re… Captain… Johnson, right?” The woman was asking him. Johnson realized his thoughts had wandered yet again. He nodded. “You’re really pale…” He was. And his body was itching all over, like he’d rolled in cobwebs. But his heart sank further as he remembered what it meant whenever the Punishing Bird attacked somebody unprovoked. He brought his rifle back from his shoulder, then turned it to lay across his hands. The noises and sensations weakened. The bird was still watching him. He stared at the rifle, then at the bird again, then at the woman. “My name’s Mirabelle,” she said, breaking the silence that had crept into the room. “It’s my second day.” “Johnson.” “I know,” she said. “They tell us the names of every team captain on the first day. Are you okay?” She asked. Johnson started to say yes, but the bird was still watching him. He didn’t know whether it responded to lies the same as it did to mental corruption, but he had a feeling. He shook his head. “Can you take my rifle?” he said. Mirabelle’s eyes widened. “Ashely’s probably down,” he told the woman. “Probably the rest of the training team, too. That makes you the captain. Once Hod comes back online, she’ll tell you the rest. But for now, you need to finish my sweep of the department. Whatever you see, just don’t panic, okay? Stay calm, and if you get attacked, trust in the E.G.O.” Mirabelle was still staring at him as the truth sank in. But her lips weren’t quivering this time. Something else was emerging in her eyes, as she took the rifle. She shuddered noticeably, and the bird turned to look at her. “How do I even… use this?” Mirabelle asked, but her voice carried curiosity rather than hopelessness. “It’ll tell you, when the time comes. Don’t use it before then. Sling it to your back and keep it there,” Johnson told her, and as she did as he told the bird’s eyes left her. “You’re going to be alright, Mirabelle.” At that, Johnson expected the bird to start pecking him again, but instead it hopped from his shoulder and flew out of the room, the door opening helpfully for it. And he realized that he wasn’t lying. When things went wrong at Lobotomy Corporation was when you found out who people really were, underneath. And Mirabelle, despite that first fright when she found herself alone and helpless in an alien facility - once she grasped what working for Lobotomy Corporation was truly like, she’d discovered that she was far braver than she knew. As for Johnson, as he headed back to the elevator, he removed his earpiece. Today would be his last day.
@@Tenebrys It's really cool to see these small situations that go unnoticed in the game be developed into short stories, it's very well written, the only thing I dont understand (not because of the writing but because of me not catching things fast enough) is the last part about the main character removing the earpiece and it being his last day.

What I was trying to get at at the end was that Johnson's about to resign, or at least try to. His months working for the corporation had driven him to the brink of insanity, which was why the bird took an interest in him. I hadn't fully reasoned out some of the stuff in the story (e.g. the way that I wrote his E.G.O. weapon as manipulating his mind) but if I had to lay something down, I'd say that his mental corruption was a reason why his rifle was able to whisper to him and such; when I talked about his eyes messing up as he aimed I was thinking of Laetitia's inhuman, unblinking stare. But I've found out since then that some of my original lore was contradicted by the source material anyway. I wrote about the Manager using a voice synthesizer to talk to his agents, but that doesn't make complete sense given that Angela says at one point in-game that employees can come visit the Manager in his office whenever they please. I found that out after I restarted the game a couple days ago to try and complete my codex...
To me, this always sounded like you're just , ascending for some reason. Either it because Yesod is blinding you because you can't remember who is who and what is what, or it's just my pea-sized brain getting calmed by something that's basically the embodiment of Yesod's despair.
im shortsighted, have moderate astigmatism and suffer from a relatively bad case of photophobia (bright lights are ouchie ouch my eyes hurty) so even though the suppression was easy it was not good on my eyes at all
Eh, depending on when you do which supression, easily the hardest of the upper Sephirah. Doing the others was "set and forget" tasks for my trained personnel but saving employees in training from breaches and ordeals with no vision of hp bars was OOF

So funny story, when I first did this core suppression I thought I made it out no casualties after the most stressful day so far. Then I got to the next day and realized that my best agent with like 10 EGO gifts and Censored’s equipment was no longer in my roster. Somewhere in this mess of pixels he died, and I still have no clue how it happened.

I had to tell them apart based on their ego suits and ego gifts, what departments they were in, and muscle memory.**
Ngl this was the suppression that made hate red morning, if you forget to prepare those shots will spawn in places you have no hope to reach in time so womp womp alriune is now making half of your facility into vines, it does not help that its pretty difficult to spot them. By far the easiest, it's still tough to those who struggle to remember where everything is, but muscle memory is something the game forces you to learn very quickly regardless, Pretty much made irrelivent if you do this Meltdown with Level 5 employees as it just becomes a normal day

this is like one of my least favorite suppressions just because of how oppressive it feels. the other ones feel like challenges but this one is suffocating because of the combination of the blurry screen and lack of sephirah messages so you can't tell when anyone dies

At that, Johnson expected the bird to start pecking him again, but instead it hopped from his shoulder and flew out of the room, the door opening helpfully for it. And he realized that he wasn’t lying.
When things went wrong at Lobotomy Corporation was when you found out who people really were, underneath. And Mirabelle, despite that first fright when she found herself alone and helpless in an alien facility - once she grasped what working for Lobotomy Corporation was truly like, she’d discovered that she was far braver than she knew.
As for Johnson, as he headed back to the elevator, he removed his earpiece. Today would be his last day.
@@Tenebrys It's really cool to see these small situations that go unnoticed in the game be developed into short stories, it's very well written, the only thing I dont understand (not because of the writing but because of me not catching things fast enough) is the last part about the main character removing the earpiece and it being his last day.

What I was trying to get at at the end was that Johnson's about to resign, or at least try to. His months working for the corporation had driven him to the brink of insanity, which was why the bird took an interest in him. I hadn't fully reasoned out some of the stuff in the story (e.g. the way that I wrote his E.G.O. weapon as manipulating his mind) but if I had to lay something down, I'd say that his mental corruption was a reason why his rifle was able to whisper to him and such; when I talked about his eyes messing up as he aimed I was thinking of Laetitia's inhuman, unblinking stare.
But I've found out since then that some of my original lore was contradicted by the source material anyway. I wrote about the Manager using a voice synthesizer to talk to his agents, but that doesn't make complete sense given that Angela says at one point in-game that employees can come visit the Manager in his office whenever they please. I found that out after I restarted the game a couple days ago to try and complete my codex...

Doing the others was "set and forget" tasks for my trained personnel but saving employees in training from breaches and ordeals with no vision of hp bars was OOF
