Very enjoyable Charlie. How could 35 mins. go by so quick?. You had me under your spell. lol All the best.
That’s very kind of you to say to Tim. Stay safe mate, regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway Thank you.
Who is the clever fella then, a nice job of problem solving Charlie. A truely entertaining show, thank you.
I’m so pleased that you found it. Interesting Steve. Regards, Charlie.
Charlie Bishop, Fame and fortune await you, congratulations on winning the Hornby Model Rail 2022 Blogger of the year award.......... Great to see a well deserves award going to such an eminent person. Keep up the good work, sorry this is attached to a video but cannot find a way to message you directly.
Thanks Richard, I found the whole thing somewhat humbling. Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie Well deserved I have learnt a lot from your videos and bought items that you reviewed. I was also surprised when I picked up the trophy for best layout as voted for by the visitors at the Hornby Exhibition for the Stafford Railway Circle layout Whiteacres
All fun fun fun at Chadwick!
I’m so pleased that you find it entertaining Phil. Regards, Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway The video you did about DCC was of huge help, my thanks! Looks like you're making great progress...Chadwick is an amazing project and I am grateful to you for sharing so much of it!
I am certainly impressed.

Plase every body, don't call and disturb Charlie during his video !!!! I'm a French fan since a long time. Thank you for all. Sorry for my English not very fluently.
Your English is just fine Philippe.

Charlie thankyou for the video. Ron.
You’re most welcome, Ron.

Great video Charlie. Good progress with the boards. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Roy.
You’re most welcome Roy.

Talking to railway buds this evening and Chadwick keeps coming up. We all agree that for most of us we learn as we go. A friend of mine did start a CZcams channel but unfortunately shut it down after continue criticism on how he did things. From anything like you say your words wrong to could your wife iron your t shirt . So I say well done to the Charlie of the world for providing us with such wonderful content. I have since apologies to my friend regarding the comment I left about his mess t shirts. LoL. Sad git
You need a thick skin to have a CZcams channel. I ban a couple of people every month for abuse!
Cant wait for another instalment .
I’m so pleased to hear that Alvan.

Once again a very interesting vid3o Charlie.
Thanks mate, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie
I have just heard congratulations are in order.... Chadwick Model Railway won an award. Well done Charlie.

And next week charlie shows us how to build a room extension using nothing but a bent nail and a pair of mole grips
Thank you for your enthusiasm, Pepper. Regards, Charlie

When wood working never under estimate the amount of sawdust you are going to produce. Its only second to sand getting every where! So please dont forget to wear a mask. Thank you Charlie, it proves you need to multi task, when building a model railway. Many thanks, enjoy your sense, of humour.😍
Thanks Tony, I’m so pleased that you enjoy my videos. Regards, Charlie
Get some foam carpet underlay and roll a tube that fits inside the helix to stop cars etc. falling down inside? Alternatively fish net mesh at the base of the helix to catch anything falling before they hit the floor.
Great advice mate, much appreciated. Regards Charlie
35 minutes on baseboards? But it shot by! As a beginner my first take-aways were cutting straight lines on the ply using the clamps, battens and the edge of the circular saw plate, the bulk cork, and your point that even 18mm ply can flex significantly in quite small areas. But I’ll come back to this. I hope there’s no charge for repeated viewings!
That’s great Golden, I’m so pleased that you found it useful. Regards, Charlie
Charlie enjoyed the video, some good tips! Here’s another one via a good friend who is a contractor. Invest in a second battery power drill. Changing bits constantly between screwdriver and drill bit is a big waste of time!
Screwfix are ion the case!
For a minute then I thought you were going to name the power tools, brilliant video showing on the fly design changes
Thanks Alan, I’m so pleased you found it. Interesting mate. Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie. I have never left a comment before, but I have been watching your Videos for about 2 years. I have no chance of ever having my own layout. I always enjoy your very informative, and well explained projects, not forgetting your great sense of humour. You always brighten up my day. Long may it last.
Thanks Gary, for such a heartwarming comment. Regards, Charlie
When you showed us your 8mm bolt dilemma, I instantly thought, 1/2" bolt cutters! But, your solution was way more cunning. Just goes to prove a bit of head scratching and a dash of hesitancy go a long way. Well done Charlie.
Thanks Peter, I’m so pleased that you found the video interesting mate. Regards, Charlie
Great progress! And you still have ALL your fingers! The cutting going into a tunnel on the helix will certainly look great!

Great vid Charlie despite all the hard work
I’m so pleased that you found it. Interesting John. Regards, Charlie.
Charlie… Bit late now and you’ve more than likely addressed the situation. As for the sound proofing mats on the inner base of the helix, I have a suggestion. Line the sound proofing mats as an inner wall to the helix and secure the mats to the rods with black zip ties. You attain a soundproofing wall and potentially avoid derailment and falling locos etc inside the helix.
Thanks Maurice, however, I have covered this in a much later video. Regards, Charlie
Looking forward to fitting the point motors video. I am of the age and dimension that makes going low a big problem. Even when I could dive under the board,, twisting my head up to see a motor under the board was a trial only to be made worse by the glasses slipping or looking through the wrong magnification part of my glasses etc. I have 5 Peco ones installed at the moment but I have a planned 5 rail goods siding that will need point motoring.
Barry.Devon
Thanks Barry, hopefully I can find a solution to your situation. Regards, Charlie
Nice job Charlie, really like that router.
Yes, I liked it too. I can’t justify buying one! Regards, Charlie

Saved by the bell from the angle grinding! Very useful and timely - for me - as ever. Thank you.
I’m so pleased that it will be useful for you Will. Regards Charlie
Maybe a bit extravagant, but having two drills the same is of real benefit if you need to swap between drilling and countersinking, drilling and screwdriver, etc; you can have the other one ready loaded to save changing bits.
Screwfix here I come!
Bloody hell charlie this is amazing stuff, i think in the end i would have a track running outside into a small shed used as a fiddleyard, but im nuts, ignore me.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it mate. Stay safe, regards, Charlie
Great video again Charlie's, brings out an angle grinder *insert Charlie's catchphrase "what could possibly go wrong " LOL, Instead of a router you could also use drill bits with adjustable stoppers,
I’m unsure if you can Leigh, because your adjustable stops you still need a flat drill piece. Regards, Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway i was thinking of a Brad Point Twist Drill which is flat but with a very small point. just a lot cheaper than a router, but "what could possibly go wrong ?" 😀
Keep up the great videos.
Another enjoyable video, I’m looking forward to the surface mount point motors sequence
We’ve come a long way from the original TMD ! 😊
Yes Jack, a very long way indeed.

Another interesting video Charlie. Each one gets a bit 'closer' and it is fascinating watching the development. Thanks for quoting imperial measurements for us oldies.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. CBW. Regards, Charlie
Charlie, good video.
Re the sound-proofing foam, there are many types of foam, so you do not need to pay the premium for branded sound-proofing versions. As you say, a recommendation is useful, but you’ll want it it be medium-low density, and (for coach/loco protection) at least an inch thick. The low density acoustic foam has bubbles in the surface, so may catch on details and couplings of a train.
Re drilling the holes for the top of the 8mm bars, you can use a Forster bit (similar to those used to recess hinges in kitchen doors). Lidl sell them frequently, in sets at reasonable prices. Key difference is that you don’t get a long hole for the centre, so it doesn’t broach the upper surface.
Thanks Tom, I think I have now found the acoustic tiles I need. Regards, Charlie
Thanks for this video Charlie once again very helpful video. The layout taking shape now I'm looking forward to the next one.
It’s great to have you on board for the ride Leicester. Stay safe mate, regards, Charlie

The foam is not really sound absorbing, it just reduces the reflection of higher frequencies. It may still improve sound in the room to a small extent, and it should be fine for protecting any falling stock.
Thanks BD, much appreciated.

Ooh boy you know it’s going to be a good day when Mr Charlie Bishop uploads. Loving these updates Charlie, your layout is magnificent and that helix is beautiful! Can’t wait to see the finished product in the near future. Your videos have been really helping me through my intensive sickness I’ve had since February of this year and for that I thank you.
I’ve had adverse effects from contracting glandular fever for the second time in seven years. Incredibly unlucky and one thing that has incapacitated my ability to do my own filming most of this year. I have got the odd train or two throughout South Australia and filmed on a massive 5 inch gauge miniature railway that is owned by a friend of mine but in the wider scheme of things, not really so much lol 😆. It’s beyond a joke now but at least I haven’t had COVID as yet, thank the Lordy Lord! It has to get better eventually doesn’t? That’s the theory anyway. I still take the odd comedic swing at myself to keep me from going completely insane lol 😆. And imagine how better off the world would be if we all just had a laugh or two every single day, and excepted the cruel yet sometimes delightful irony that is life eh? 🤣.
Keep well yourself, Charlie and I’ll look forward to your next upload with great anticipation. You can watch the trip on the 5 inch gauge private railway on my channel if you’re interested?
In other news, this week will be great for me as my brand-new Dapol OO Gauge Manor Class 4-6-0 number 7814 Fringford Manor will be arriving in the post, hooray! It’s almost here after travelling from the UK. Can’t wait to run her! 😍👌
For now, stay healthy. Warmest regards, Caleb
Thank you so much for such a heartwarming comment Caleb. Stay safe mate, and good luck with your project. Regards, Charlie
When marking perhaps may I suggest mark the tops of the rods with either a marker pen or a touch of paint that will mark the underneath of the board also an adjustable set square that will the pen upright when marking from underneath
This is very much a one off occasion Nicholas. Still, yes I have got away with it. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie, WOW. just signed up to you tube today so I could say thank you so much for your videos. They are honest (trains short on points etc ). funny :- wife out , ill use her mixer , must be the phone then, and so much more. and very factual . also love your precision engineering. stick that there and see if it fits, brilliant. That's how I ,and probably most model railways work. watched every one of your videos as I am now out of work (semi retired), waiting to move and hopefully build my own layout when I do. Things have certainly progressed since I last played trains. fantastic. Many thanks ,you have kept me sane -ish over the last lockdown and beyond.
What a heartwarming comment Les, and very much appreciated. Regards, Charlie.
Suspended Ceiling Track . My mate Martin has come up with a idea 💡 of suspending railway track from the ceiling to increase layout. He asked me to ask the Chadwick Gang has this been done. I told him if it has then clearly no one survived it running. The idea is to use batten on ceiling then very much like the helix dangle the track from the ceiling.
Sorry, boombox, that’s well beyond my ability. Regards, Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway I said to him what happens if trains come off tracks you have carriages dangling in mid air like bras hang of the bedroom light on a Saturday night
Hi Charlie, Another fun packed video! 🤣 Ambulance on speed-dial is advisable for any first-time user of any of those tools! Ear protection and eye protection and, if cutting MDF, a mask are a necessity - ask me how I know... you are never alone with tinnitus. Thinking about stopping coaches etc. falling into centre of the helix. You could get some thin card and staple it to the risers on the inside of the helix making a wall strong enough to keep stock from falling into the "pit" and never to be seen again! This would offset the need for padding on the bottom which, despite the softer landing, could still cause some damage to locos' detail parts. Always looking forward to the next instalment.👍
I’m so pleased you enjoyed it Mike and a good point regarding the cardboard.
Food for thought. Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway CZcamsr mpeterll uses some sort of thin plywood or similar for his railings on helixes
Charlie, Recently, I have considered becoming a CZcams Content Provider. I am eligible to retire. Still considering retirement and taking up being a content provider. I have not made the decision to jump in as of yet. The past few months I have been posting my model railroading work to a Facebook group dedicated to my scale and there is some real interest by the members of the group. Anyway, I searched for your episode on Bloopers and CZcams advice. I found it and I watched it again. Only this time I took notes. I paused often to get those important points written down. I dragged the video back many times to be sure I got that important point written down. I ended up with one and a half pages of handwritten notes. I like the fact that you tell it like it is. I will go over these notes to get those into some order in Word for my reference as I go. Maybe a schedule for CZcams will get me on a schedule for my own model railroad build. I tend to go into spurts of activity for a day or three, then get busy again with family and work while leaving the layout alone. Another observation, over time I have noticed that a number of the model railroad content providers go on a schedule of weekly posting for a year or two, then take a break, return with a reduced schedule to monthly. They reached their goal, but some viewers who got hooked, myself included, are disappointed. I notice that you keep notes to keep you on task when in video mode. Do you do the same for tasks to be done on the Chadwick? Any comments? Also, what are your thoughts on those model railroaders doing another form of subscription buys? The sub buy where they are close to that 1,000 or 5,000 so they offer a "give away" prize if they get to that next goal. Good or bad? By the way, will you create another video with CZcams creation advice?
Well, where do I start.
The first thing you need to address is why you want a CZcams channel. Is it to record your own model railway journey, or perhaps to inspire others or even to create an income stream.
I heard a saying sometime ago, that content is king. I really couldn’t agree more. Your popularity will be purely based on the enjoyment and inspiration that people acquire from your channel.
The buying of subscribers or watch time, really is a despicable habit that some CZcamsrs choose. I know of a popular channel here in the UK, where the creator had 1400 subscribers deleted from his channel as CZcams caught him out.
Please don’t be driven by the number of likes and subscribers that your channel might attract. But be driven by the amount of watch time and inspiration that you can provide.
Good luck, regards Charlie
Superb progress mate! The diorama section will be pretty awesome too! See you with new updates in 2 weeks 😊
Thanks AS, you’re too kind mate. Regards, Charlie
Well what can I say - Charlie does Bob the Builder!!! Another really enjoyable video where you continue to make them so easy to watch and the hints and tips keep coming. I will be interested in the surface mounted points installation as my layout now prevents me from getting easy access underneath. Your videos are real entertainment value with all the detail kept very simple for us all to learn from. Look forward to the next one.
Thanks Kevin, I’m so pleased you enjoyed the videos. Regards, Charlie
More clamps! Two drills vs swapping bits. Good series and directions.
I’m off to Screwfix!
Hi Charlie. Just wanted to say thanks for the great videos, everyone is an inspiration and motivation to get cracking with my own much smaller end-to-end project which has stalled for a few years now.
I like how you're only prepared to give your honest feedback on kits and bits and tools and if it doesn't work you say so! Also that you have enough humility to say.. maybe it's just me!
You're videos have given me the confidence to just give it a go and start playing around and experimenting with some new techniques and doing things I was always afraid of, like ballasting! Your trusty method worked well for me too.
Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing your layout build progress.
What heartwarming comment David. Very much appreciated, regards, Charlie.

Hey Charlie,
Another awesome video - I love the good-humoured way you demonstrate and explain things. It's made me much more confident about tackling jobs with power tools! Ingenious solution to the height issue with the helix and so impressive that it fitted properly! If that had been me I would have probably been off by about 5mm and consigning yet another good size piece of wood to recycling!
Thanks for the inspiration.
I’m so pleased that you found it. Interesting John. Staysafe mate, regards, Charlie

Don’t we all Nigel.
I'm impressed with your jigsaw work. My composit deck has 3 strange cuts in it and my recycle bin has 2 cuts in handle.
You and me both Bob, I’ve ruined so much timber with a jigsaw. Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie - soundproofing foam is excellent - you may want to consider using it in other areas of the railway room! However re the helix - I would advise using the spiked foam as opposed to the ridged foam in case your rolling stock decides to take a bounce on impact, thus avoiding a missing piece of tooling if any should clip the bottom side of the helix post descent!
Have you also thought about lining the inner sides of the helix? Would there be enough clearance for your longest coaches? Appears to be! Best of luck.
Thanks Josh, that’s sound advice! Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie
Really was impressed with your solution using M8 Rod from the helix to support your base boards. Looking forward to next video.
Kind regards Kevin 😊
