    I work with stage props. And we also use the same insulation foam rod you've used in this video. So I thought I'd share some of our secrets.
    Whenever we work with softish foam (be it EVA/L200 or the insulation stuff) we always cover the foam with a layer auf gauze and something called Hatovit. Hatovid is somewhere in between liquid latex and pva glue. It is flexible, not shiny and not sticky when dry. A bit harder than liquid latex and acrylic paint sticks to it. But you could totally use either liquid latex or pva glue (or a mix of both) to do the same thing.
    This gives all of our foam pieces a gauze texture, wich we usually do not mind since everything is painted anyways and stage props are very far away from the audience, so the texture is not that visible. Though we might cover foam in lycra if it has to look super smooth. So if you are ever working with the isolation foam rods again and you want everything a bit more sturdy, this might be an option. If you do not mind the texture that is.

    • @Matschen
      @Matschen Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@LostWax I hope it helps. I am pretty sure that Hatovit is a product that is only sold in Germany and you probably would not be able to buy it. But something similar should exist in other countries.
      One of the more famous things this technique was used on is Pumbaa's head from the lion king musical.

    So good! I bought your Ultimate Everything Super Value Pattern Bundle a couple of weeks ago. I've been buying all of the supplies that you recommended. (BTW: That glue gun you recommended is AWESOME!) . My 7 year old granddaughter and I are going to build a suit of armor for each of us. After that are planning to make MANY more of your creations. I would never be able to make any of these items without you. Thank you SO much! p.s. There was a comment below regarding the jetpack from The Rocketeer. I would LOVE to build that AND the Rocketeer Helmet if you were to ever do those. Just my .02.
    One more thing: If any of you are considering buying a pattern here, just get the Ultimate Everything Super Value Pattern Bundle. It is TOTALLY worth it! Do yourself a favor and check it out!

    With the poly foam, do you know if aerosol sprays will eat away at it? example plasti-dip? I learned the hard way that spray paint will eat some high density housing insulation while working on the great knife for pyramid head..... I was able to cut away quickly and save the piece thankfully

      Okay, I just tried it with some Rustoleum Painters Touch spray paint, and it does not seem to be eating the foam.

    Why did you have to glue the shell inside out then change it

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  Před 5 měsíci

      I just find it much easier to glue it inside out- that way I can make sure the surface that will end up facing up is being glued properly while still being able to put enough pressure on the seam. It's hard to explain, but makes sense once you try it out.
