- This week we're in a new brand new place, experiencing an authentic Dominican countryside experience in the mountains over Puerto Plato. We're staying at Tubagua Eco Lodge, just 20 minutes from Puerto Plata.
Tubagua Eco Lodge is a small hotel with rustic but beautiful open air rooms, all with amazing views.

Throughout the video we take you on a tour of the whole property including the pool, the amazing views, and the various room types. We also take you through our own room which is a casita which has its own bathroom.
The rooms feel a lot like a glamping experience, or sleeping in a treehouse, being open air with a breeze from the outside. At night. you can hear the frogs and the bugs, but you still get to sleep in a comfortable bed.
Tubagua Eco Lodge puts a major focus into community tourism. They offer a number of experiences including hiking to a waterfall. We got to go to the coffee experience where you get to learn about the entire process of making coffee, from the tree to the cup.
Lastly we sit down of a delicious meal of Sancocho, a Dominican stew. You can eat all of your meals at Tubagua and the food is amazing!

In Samaná there’s a place called Dominican Tree House Village that I think you might like. It’s also whales watching season in Samaná from January 15 to March 25.

By the way, the sancocho can be made with a mix of chicken meat, beef and pork meat. They will be cooked separately and towards the end they will be put in the vegetable stew. When they say 7 different kinds of meat, it is meant that the meats are from 7 different parts of the animals i.e. smoked pork-chops, pork shoulders, cow ribs and beef, oxtails, chicken breast and legs. It’s the best stew/ soup ever!!!

Looking forward to seeing more of LT and if you go to those beaches by boat don't forget about the river area on the Roncon beach (I might have named it wrong but you can easily find out). This was a very unique experience. Reminded me a little of YURT camping in Tobermory.

If you are going to Las Galeras you must try the Chalet tropical lodge sarah is Amazing and it’s a unique ecolodge. Also there are tons of unspoiled beaches in Las Galeras. Playa Breman and playa del Asserradero is a Must Visit

I love my country, live in USA since I was 12, and I really dont know places from my native country. Its beautiful and yes it has it all, even cold and snow. About sancocho, I put it all in one side of the sancocho, but usually you take a little with sancocho with the spoon. I think you eat it the way you feel more comfortable. I love to watch your videos everytime my husband is playing it.

Very cool. I remember bumping into Tim Hall at some of the old gringo bars in POP (The Boar House, Electric Cafe, Black Beards, Hotel Castillo, etc) in the late 80's while I was living in Cofresi. I knew he had been developing this place but hadn't seen videos like this showing it in all its rustic splendor with those incredible views. What a beautiful spot.
If you haven't driven up the back side of Isabel de Torres yet that's an easy day trip with spectacular views. I prefer the route via San Marcos rather then going through El Cupey, but if you're coming from Cabarete it's quicker and also gives spectacular views.

Hello guys, I would like to say that I love your videos, they are great, also I would like to thank you for all the beautiful things that you guys post about DR 🙏🏼. I have a couple of suggestions, the first one is close to Cabarete, maybe an hour or so, not sure, that is playa Diamante, small but beautiful, the second one not to close, is in the south side of the island, in the town of Perdenales, the name is Bahia the las Aguilas, to me the most beautiful beach in DR. Some body recommended to visit Las Dunas de Baní , Enriquillo Lake well you can do all three in one trip and a lot more great places in that area. Love your work.

When you go back to samana go to the following spots: 1-Santa Barbara which is the main city in Samana 2- Cayó Levantado. 3 watch the humpback whales before they left in March. 4- Playa Ermitaño. 5- Playa Rincón. 6- playa Frontón. 7- Playa el valle. 8- Saltó el limón. 9- Los Haitises national park. 10- Eat a lot of “moro de guandule con coco and fish.” 😉

Hi, nice video! I am Dominican living in Florida. I personally don’t like the rice in my sancocho , but it’s a tradition to have it with white rice and a side of avocado as well. Enjoy 😊 I am looking forward to go and visit the beautiful north coast of my country.
We're never sure what to do with the rice. What do most folks do with the rice? Do they add it to the soup like we did? - Trevor

Well, essentially, the Dominican population is divided into two major parties. Those, like myself, who think rice belongs in the pot along with the rest of the "sancocho", and those who think you should eat the rice with some of the meat but separate. One minor faction proposes avocado should be put in the sancocho too. The way you did it is the proper way! Keep it up!
Really looking forward to your pending collaboration. Maybe they can convince you to visit a coffee finca during harvest time, it has been on my wish list since you got there.
