  • Film and digital photography each have their own unique characteristics and advantages.
    Film Photography:
Aesthetic: Many photographers appreciate the aesthetic qualities of film, including its grain, color rendition, and dynamic range.
Tangibility: Film photography produces physical negatives or slides, providing a tangible record of images that can be stored and archived.
Slower process: Shooting with film often requires more time and deliberation, as each frame is limited and must be carefully composed.
Mastery: Learning to shoot with film can enhance photographic skills, as it requires a deeper understanding of exposure, composition, and manual camera settings.
Nostalgia: Film photography can evoke a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era, appealing to those who appreciate traditional photographic processes.
    Digital Photography:
Instant feedback: Digital cameras provide immediate feedback through the LCD screen, allowing photographers to review and adjust their shots on the spot.
Cost-effective: While the initial investment in digital equipment can be higher, the ongoing costs of shooting digitally are generally lower since there's no need to purchase film and pay for development.
Versatility: Digital cameras offer a wide range of features and settings, allowing photographers to experiment with different shooting modes, filters, and post-processing techniques.
Convenience: Digital photography enables easy sharing, editing, and printing of images, eliminating the need for physical negatives or darkroom equipment.
Workflow efficiency: Digital workflows streamline the process of importing, organizing, and editing images, making it easier for photographers to manage large volumes of photos.
Ultimately, the choice between film and digital photography depends on individual preferences, artistic goals, and practical considerations. Some photographers may prefer the hands-on experience and aesthetic qualities of film, while others may prioritize the convenience and versatility of digital technology. In many cases, photographers may even choose to integrate both mediums into their practice, leveraging the unique strengths of each to achieve their desired results.

Really interesting eleven minutes that. Interesting take on how taking images makes you feel. I think a lot of us can relate; I certainly do. And interesting comparison between the two media (is that the right word?). The film a lot nicer than I was expecting. I’d still never go back to it though!
    Thanks Rob

      Thanks for the comment :-)
I mean my digital edits for this shoot were terrible so an unfair competition (not comparing really lol) but I enjoyed the process.

The Canon D30 is a 3mp camera. Couldn’t you pick a better digital camera for comparison?

You’re 100% right ! For sure I could have a will do so soon. The film stock was also low quality.

Totally agree. The edits are film presets on light room. Did not spend much time just selected all and synchronized the pics ;-) !
