  • Finally hoping to get a stump removed that I started on awhile back. Some cleanup and maxing out the loader.

    I have the Bro-Tek ripping shank you mentioned. I generally just use it and not the bucket because you want the roots as firmly in the ground as possible so you can cut through them. I've seen some newer competitors that have teeth on the inside of the shank that I think might be an improvement. When you try to lift a heavy object over the lip of your bucket, you limit your lift capacity. I often remove the bucket and attach my chains directly to the bucket clamps. This moves the center of lift closer to the tractor and increases the lifting capacity; think about a lever the closer you can choke an object, the more you can lift. I see you have a newer model 1025r but, if the differential lock lever is the same as the older ones, you may want to check out 'Bolt On Hooks'. He has a pedal that fastens onto the little rod JD provides and it makes using it (and remembering to use it) much easier. Happy digging.

    Here's a trick you may want to try. Run the chains across the back of the bucket. This puts the weight closer to the pivoting point allowing your tractor to lift more. Just watch your hydraulic lines and ozert fittings and such. Don't ask me how i know. Hahaha If the weight goes out the front of the bucket it multiplies the weight and reduces the useful load dramatically. Best of luck

  • @albrustkern2977
    @albrustkern2977 Před 4 lety +2

    Using your chains over the cutting edge of your bucket you loose about two feet of lifting leverage. Drop the chains behind the bucket, you will gain just a few hundred pounds lift.

    I've got 2 trees that I cut down that are 46" across on the surface of the stump. I've dug one out that needed to go for my fence build now I will work on the rest of the stumps. I started with the 16" bucket and there were a lot of roots close together that I needed broken out the way amd that's when I picked up the root ripper and oh man was it worth every penny. I've got some side work with 13 stumps and a other has about 45 stumps the root ripper is fantastic.

    If you straighten out your backhoe while doing front loader work, it’ll equal out the weight on the rear of the machine and the boom and dipper will “hang” out more providing better equal ballasts to both rear wheels. Just sayin! Nice vid!

If you haven't seen it yet, John at Louisiana Tractorworks & Projects did a nice 2 part video on the BXpanded Root Ripper and Trenching bucket. I recommend checking it out. I never realized I needed one until I watched his video . It's the next implement I'll be getting for sure. Stay safe and have a great day.

    I also looked at the Expanded ripper tooth and then decided for fun to make my own out of an old plow blade edge using a similar design. It works great in conjunction with the bucket. Usually excavate first with the bucket (since the tooth only reaches down about a foot) and then switch to the tooth to rip up or off

    • @Legalmachinist
      @Legalmachinist Před 4 lety

      Roots or even pieces of the stump. Once you break it loose, then saw off the trunk which is just dead weight and limits your ability to get the stump up and out. I got a mechanical thumb for my BX23S and can’t imagine working without. Very strongly recommended.

    I have the 16" bucket on the hoe and also bought the quick attach and Ripper from bxpanded. Also bought the 6" bucket from bxpanded, but haven't used it. I have only used the ripper on smaller stumps. When I ordered it took a few months for my stuff to come in and I ended up using my 16" bucket for most of the stumps I took out as I didn't want to wait. I'm not sure how many I did, guessing between 15-30. I used the ripper on a few smaller stumps I missed some how and it worked really well, I didn't use the bucket at all and made less of a mess. The ripper saved me on the very first stump I tried, it was close to another tree and I couldn't get my 16" bucket in there and that ripper was small enough to get in there and rip the roots and finally get the stump out. The very first stump I tried with my 1025r and wasn't impressed and then then doing others and using that ripper has really changed my mind. It takes some time, but once you get the hang of it, it is very simple. I did a group of stumps in one area of probably 5 8" trees and several small ones or so and did it all in one day. I had a huge hole dug. Probably 4ft down and 10ft long and 4ft wide and wasn't sure I was going to get all the dirt back in and was also hoping I had enough. Was something and wished I would have taken video or pictures of it. Used the rototiller to smooth everything out and planted grass then.

    Rear differential lock wouldn’t of helped when back tires are coming off ground.
    Before cutting next tree, run a cable to top of tree. Pulling on a tree from 25’-30’ feet up when it has a 3’ radius root ball is a LOT of mechanical advantage. You’d be surprised by how much you can pull over.

    Great job! I love to see the backhoe work on stumps. I saw in a few videos back you used a receiver that had a quick attach to the front of your bucket for moving a trailer, where did you find that? I really like your set up for your implements also. Great organization for the space you have under the shed.

    Pulling heavy loads like that, instead of trying to lift it off the ground (which was causing some of your tires to come off the ground & not have good traction) just try pulling it & lift up just enough to keep the nose of the stump from digging into the ground as you drag it. I think you’d get the most production from your tractor like that.....

    The 1025 seems a little weak with the loader lift and pulling power. Seemed like the backhoe isn’t as strong as other sub-compacts I’ve seen work. Or maybe it’s just me.

      Definitely better to use a Y configuration, like he did. Once he had just the short chain on the stump, he probably could have lifted it clear of the hole using curl function, as curl can lift more weight than raising the loader booms, instead of trying to drag it out.

      We have just shy of 3 acres in Northern Ohio and 15 acres in Southern Ohio. Both have long gravel driveway which was probably our number for our tractor purchase. The brush hog was another big reason especially in Southern Ohio. I sold my ATV and use the tractor for snow removal and other jobs the ATV did. We found so many more things to use, for more then we imagined.
