It's not heavy snow. It's like a few centimeters. This city simply doesnt know how to handle minimal amounts of snow. Look at your footage, the concrete on the roads is still visible.

Those roads definitely more clear in that area than Burnaby/Coquitlam on my commute home. Cities are relying on Brine instead of blasting the roads with salt and sand. Poor choice IMO. Vancouver switched to a beet juice mixture this year for some reason, could be a woke decision, not sure.

You know the lack of knowledge in geography, physics and weather you have to NOT have to laugh at Vancouver when only a few centimeters of snow falls? What most people fail to understand in this comment section is 1 cm of snow in Vancouver is not equivalent to 1 cm of snow anywhere else in Canada. Snow in Vancouver is almost always the same, it starts with rain, then changes to wet snow, to heavy wet snow and then the temperature drops a few degrees below freezing so the slush becomes compressed because of all the cars driving over it, then it becomes compressed ice. And when I say compressed ice, I mean half a centimeter of pure ice, as slippery as black ice anywhere else in Canada but with an environment with extremely high humidity. Couple that with hills literally everywhere, unprepared and untrained drivers, and you get yourself a disaster. I drove in almost all the provinces in Canada and BC is the most treacherous, dangerous and slippery place I ever been on. Even with a good car and great winter tires, you can be screwed real fast.

Now, living in Vancouver, i can honestly say that the microclimate of this city on the Salish Sea is different than most places where snow falls. In my opinion, it is best that people living in the greater lower mainland would do best to just stay home on snow days. We have no business driving. Stay home, bake some cookies or just get baked. It's not heavy snow. You don't even need snow tires for this, as the friction and exhaust of cars will have it melted by the time plows are on the road. Keep your speed 20kmph below the limit on unplowed roadway, and if you lose traction, take your foot off of the accelerator and carefully guide the vehicle until it regains traction. This is basic car operation in Canada. Anywhere other than Vancouver, there would be far fewer accidents.

The near-zero temperatures with fluctuations above and below make ICE a very real problem. I was on the road, which had not accumulated much snow at the time, and it got icy FAST! You do not get that in places with consistent sub zero temps and a snow pack. And just so you know, I have M+S tires, 4WD, and have a lot of winter driving experience somewhere other than Vancouver. When has ICBC EVER sent money out of the province, much less overseas?
Keep in mind I am NOT a big fan of ICBC. I know a few years ago the executives once gave themselves disgusting overly large wages and yearly bonuses to the point the government regulators had to step in and arrest some people and force ICBC to institute both a wage cap as well as a hiring freeze (since some executives were using the excuse of "we are overseeing such a large staff" to justify their large yearly bonuses to the provincial government.)
Also I heard alot of ICBC insurance money was being used to repave roads in BC to the point it was leading to ICBC having financial instability issues, so I don't think the provincial government should have ever implemented that practice to begin with.
That being said I have never heard of ICBC "sending money to Ukraine". Granted I would not br opposed to the practice since Putin is a horrifying monster who risks starting WW3 so he and the Russian military must be stopped and Putin should be disposed.
Again though I have never heard of ICBC sending money to Ukraine. I just don't see why they would do that since a) they need to make dure they're financially stable to continue, the altruistic minded people working at ICBC can keep themselves content with the fact they provide a needed service to society and I think most executives at ICBC would rather keep more of that money for their own salaries and yearly bonuses rather then send that money to Ukraine.

In some parts the world HAS warmed significantly to disturbing levels.
Like just look at the polar ice caps and all the collapsing icebergs.
Look at all the polar bears dying due to the thinning ice chunks.
Look at all the flooding in parts of Florida that never experienced that before.
Look at how India is experiencing horrific almost yearly heat waves. (Even though India was always a hot place it was never that hot before.)
Listen to farmers and other people working in agriculture in ppaces like Alberta and Northern BC discuss all the issues they're facing with drought.
Climate change means some places get colder and some places get hotter while the weather in general gets more chaotic and unstable then it was before.

I live here in Western Canada. I wish when it snowed and we just had like 1 or 2 feet of snow (snow can at least be driven overly safely if driven over safely) or even just rain instead of what we have which is a bad combination of both.

You know why? because of those construction on the road without end. I've seen a lot and observed a lot on the road. Like a simple repair on the road, it takes forever to finish. I've been on a construction industry before and there is nothing changed to make it efficient and faster enough. Its like they using it as a milking cow from the government. Another is the stupidity of driver's. I don't know how they've got their licenses. Third, poor management and lack of anticipation of the local government. The local government is only good on imposing higher taxes, that's it!
