There is already confirmed WRC test event in Chattanooga Tennessee in 2024, so its probably time to start planning your next holiday :)
What makes rally even better... You can watch it live for free. You can follow the cars to each stage. You can stand in the garage (usually just a tent) at the end of each stage and watch the mechanics at work. In the smaller local ones the driver is often helping them.
Where I am in Ireland they used to have one in my local park! Like a play park, for kids, with swings and stuff lol
Yes WRC Octavia...💥 Greetings from the Czech Republic 🇨🇿
Found Ian around two weeks ago and can't stop watching his videos, just love his enthusiasm.
The engines sounds like that mainly because we as Czechs set our Antilag to the "pissed off" settings :D Just like the Fabia the Octavia was just angry. Also check out our first rally icon the 130RS the Porsche of the East :D
Hell yea ! Škoda ! Greetings from Czech Republic !!!
That popping is anti lag system, it's purpose is to keep turbo spinning fast. So when driver pushes accelerator again you get instant throttle reaction
I've always liked Skodas and just got my new Skoda Octavia Combi 1.5 Style a couple of months ago. It's my third Octavia Combi in 11 years, good cars and no faults so far. Here in Finland the Octavia has been among the best selling cars most years since the early 2000s. Technically Skodas have been Volkswagens since the 90s, but I just think they are cooler and better looking.
as far as I am aware Skodas are kind of the second tier of VW, having nearly all the issues ironed out.
@@HrLBolle .....rather the third one out.... The news tech shows up in Audi or Porsche first, then VW and finally Skoda and Seat / Cupra.....
@@Dan-fo9dk Im counting from VW the core.
But if you were to include the higher end segment yes.
By the way why did Seat rename itself?
@@HrLBolle VW is just one brand under in the whole corporation named Volkswagen AG. So new stuff usually comes up with Audi ....where they can charge most money for the stuff. I don't know about that Seat has renamed itself.... But I know that Seat has separated out Cupra as an own company / brand. Cupra will sell the more exclusive cars of theirs, both when it comes to performance and design..... To separate out Cupra is simply business strategy. If it goes well ....than fine ....they can cash in. If it goes down the drain ....well....it will not affect/ruin Seat.
You sir are a genuine car guy..I'm not a brand snob... Love V8 supercars, love BTCC, Rally, F1, Indy. Etc. Admittedly NASCAR doesn't catch me the way others do. In family we have fords Holdens, mazda, Kia, Hyundai, suzuki, Nissan, Skodas, Audi, vw Mitsubishi. I love cars in general.
What I can remember. We used to have. A Renault 5. A red, and a yellow VW Golf mark3. And a 1983 Ford ecort 1.1 Ltr.
Good vid. Though I don't like the new screen setting. It makes the video you are watching a bit thinner and it distorts the quality.
Same here. I just can't stand watching it. If it's some copyright trick, I understand. Nevertheless, if it continues I sadly will leave the channel.
@@BossesJa it was a test run for my new setup, it will be promptly fixed (the ratio)
Thanks for the feedback, I’ll adjust it, these last two videos were a bit of a test of the new studio setup. I’ll fix it
@@IWrocker no problem man. It's nice that you try to improve all the time for better watching experience. Also I think you said you moved to a different house? Correct me if I'm wrong but a new environment also takes time to adapt. Keep it up!
I'm not a Nascar guy, it's not big in EU obviously, but goddamn the soundtrack is amazing. One of the most chilling sounds I can imagine is a close flyby of a Nascar race.
If you like the sound of this one, you will also love the sounds of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo any generation but the VI and the IX are my personal favourites, in rally spec of course.
Turbocharged 2.0L 4Cyl that has a lot of pops and bangs in an agressive way like this Skoda, you'll love it, would be cool to have a reaction to those, cheers.
Skoda, part of the VW group, makes great cars . The factories in Czechia make the smaller cars including SUVs which are branded Audi, VW, SEAT and Skoda. They share engines and gearboxes. Skoda itself started making cars well over 100 years ago.
Greetings from the Czech Republic from Rella fans. Škoda motorsport is in the foreground
world development. Octavia (Czech tank) was great on Safari. Older Škoda cars won in the world (120,130, Favorit, Felicie). Currently super (R2) Fabie R5.
Love watching these videos with you. I'm a huge rally fan aswell. Great video 😊
Love the Coconut Tim Tam packet behind you 😋 ,,,,Nice one Ian
One word: Ur-Quatro .. somebody described the sound of the 5 cylinder as sounding like "bunch of ducks with diarrea farting their way through the pond" ....
skoda was bought by volkswagen in 1991, so skoda/ audi/ volkswagen share the same platforms/ chassis/ engines.
Tdi/ Tfsi and other names, these are the same parts practically for all these brands
12:59 Wild Skoda 1000MB spoted.... Now that is a classic car from SKODA to try out.
Loved watching you find the Škodas in your earlier videos and slowly fall in love with them, they truely are wonderful :)
Gotta love the pops and bangs, anti lag for the win hahaha
Sometimes when they back fire right infront of you it feels like a punch in the stomach 😂
Hearing rally cars in a forest is awesome!
In the late 60's and early 70's my Parents, Uncle and Grandfather were all involved in rally.
Why hasn't rally taken off in the USA?
The backfire and loud popping is caused by the anti-lag system where fuel is squirted directly into the exhaust manifold before the turbo with the intention of keeping the turbo spinning when up shifting or down shifting at high speed so there isn't any turbo lag.
For me one of my favourite sounding rally cars are the BDA Escorts at high rpm.
For me the best sounding rally car is the Metro 6R4, there was just something about it when it went flying past me when i was 9 years old, and it's stuck with me ever since
I have a 2010 Skoda Octavia, 1.6L and 105HP of pure diesel power ^^ Great car, never made any problems in the 6 or 7 years we had it. Still drives as smooth as butter. It's not fast by any means but as a daily it's just awesome.
I used to follow the Irish Tarmac Championship religiously in my younger days. The one that always stood out for me was the Ford Escort WRC which had absolutely brutal anti-lag. Not necessarily the best sounding car ever, but it was memorable for how damn loud it was
I have a RHD (UK) Skoda Superb Estate / Wagon which is the bigger brother of the Octavia. The Octavia is a very spacious car with a big boot / trunk but the Superb is a little bit bigger with a huge boot / trunk & limo like space & legroom in the back. My Superb is a petrol & I had the stock 280bhp engine uprated to 360bhp with a simple & affordable ECU re-map (same engine as in the VW Golf R). It has a 6 speed DSG (auto) gearbox & a Haldex 4 x 4 all wheel drive system (standard on this model). 0-60 is around 5 secs & it is the ultimate Q car because it looks just like any other diesel Superb Estate. Skoda's are well built & very underrated cars.
Of the rally cars of today.
I would say the Hyunday i20 has the most interesting sound.
It has some sharp, high pitched, high frequency rattling sound.
Like if something is about to break any second.
Sending the camshaft and pistons out of the engine block in the shape of laser beams or something.
I've heard it in person in the swedish rally, and its absolutely insane!
They inject fuel directly into the exhaust manifold where it burns creating fast-moving gas to keep the turbo spinning when off the throttle, hence the bangs of unburned fuel exploding in the exhaust.
Gotta love anti lag on a car
I am proud owner of Skoda Octavia WRC. This car is big, oversteering, 2 liters / 300 HP are not sufficient for car of this size, but still, I love it. Amatuer rally driver.
I got a sedan from 2003 (Germany) and yes, it's basicly a VW Jetta.
Atleast 50% of the interior is identical.
There are still a lot of the station wagons around.
Sedans as a whole are rare to begin with - hatchbacks are still king in Europe.
The use of the feet keeping the turbos spooled keeps the fuel ratio up and thus the popping of the exhaust
Hey dude, first video of yours I've watched in a few months...love the new look👍👍...the video visuals as a whole that is, not the beardage and Hawaiian combo🤣
Have you ever looked at drifting competitions?
Drift masters european championship (DMEC 2023) was just in Finland and the entire broadcast is on youtube.
Crazy cars, super difficult track, lots of smoke and cars going sideways around corners.
If you don't want to go through the entire 5,5h broadcast :D, there's a pretty good highlight video on redbull motorsports youtube channel.
Lol. That's my ride. Well... tha chassis is :-D. My poor oil eating 1.6 MPI wont probably be participating in this event :-D
I'm like you I love the sounds of an Australian supercar the NASCAR and Formula 1 car but the fact a rally car is always adjusting the throttle gives it so many different sounds while going around the track just makes you glued to your seat as you don't know what it's going to do is so awesome.
P.s. Love your videos. Keep them coming mate
When you do a burnout on slicks on dry tarmac and the wheels are still spinning in 3rd gear.. you know you have more power than absolutely necessary for a 4 door salon
You should react to f2 rally kit cars. Tiny N/A 4cyls with 300hp and front wheel drive which weigh less than a tonne. Some of my favourite rally cars are in this class. Love these reactions as a massive rally fan myself, cheers.
Best decription i've ever heard of a WRC rally car on full song would be a can full of angry wasps.
I have spent last day with my friend repairing old skoda octavia from 2001. The car doesnt look best. It is rusted and interior is a bit sketchy but the thing is that the engine is diesel 1.9 TDI. That engine can do up to 500k miles. It is undestroyable :D
great channel, really love your videos! more rally videos!!
The Skoda Octavia was entirely unsuitable for being turned into a WRC car. It was too big, too heavy and the engine was slung out somewhere beyond the front axle. And that what makes it such a cool car to watch. It looks just humungous on the road and the drivers have to really force it to do things it has absolutely no interest in doing. I love it.
You should check the video comparing Frank Kelly’s Escort and Paolo Diana’s Fiat….. they do a split screen.👍
Vw audi group bought skoda. They also acquired seat, and lamborghini. Except lambos, skodas, seats and the vw range share a lot of the chassis, floor pans, and switch gear / running gear.
In Greece the majority of taxies are skodas. They are quite reliable and cheap to maintain. Also because they are VWs basically, parts in the US should be quite available.
Long running joke back through the 80s was " why do Skoda's have heated rear windows?" To keep your hands warm when pushing it 😅. They have come a very long way since those days
As someone who used to shred fields as a youth in the old Skodas during the 80's and early 90's, it's truly remarkable how Skoda have ascended to world class.
The old Skodas were affectionately called buckets and/or skips on wheels. They were dreadful machines. Now though, very sought after, reliable and revered road cars, then a highly favourable tuning machine for high octane motorsport like rallying and touring cars. One of the greatest transformations of a car brand in the past 30 years.
that awesome sound mostly comes from the "Anti-Lag System". It's a form of air bypass method to keep the turbo running on high rpm when you lift your food from the pedal. The excess air which normaly would be just blow outside (by the blow off etc.) is now getting right before the turbo turbine. And that whole thing leads to the nice misfires :) Lancer Evo and Imprezas (rally versions) mostly use the same anti-lag. It's best live at the rally. When those cars are on their first lap and still not hot, they bang so loud when shifting, its like a slap in the face ;)
Gotta love skoda's alot of people around where i live have them even the local police have them i have a 2007 skoda roomster great little car.
You definitely have to see a rally live. We in Europe have a lot of rallies, local, national, international. I think that nothing compares to the sound of rally cars, maybe speed motorcycles... When you go to see a live rally, what impresses you the most is the sound, then the techniques to enter and exit the turns.
The early 2000's were a golden age for us rally fans, Skoda, Subaru, ford, mitsubishi, Hyundai, Citroen and Peugeot fought it out in the top league, pretty sure it was one of the last times where we had so many manufacturers in the wrc championship as well.
Miss those days, it usually had a pleasant Bavarian guy inside with a black cap who made complex engineering problems understandable for motorsport journalists lol. Excellent choice btw
Absolutely love the subject matter, fantastic choice big guy 👍👌
Mate, put one of your Aussie ballcaps on, your hair is doing terrifying stuff! Love your work.
You would love the Škoda museum. There are definetly some videos on CZcams of it
WRC cars sound a lot different in real life, much awsome, antilag systems bang really loud and cool!
Cool new setup, man!
Love your work mate. So ummmm when are you getting that Keeps sponsorship? 😁😁😁
pops are for keeping turbo spooling in braking, pushing gas in manifold under braking.
Why why doesn’t America have the best rally in the world, I’m sure there must be beautiful landscapes and amazing roads. Mate I’m so proud of you promoting this incredible sport on your channel. And I’d love to see some American muscle cars tuned to rally and compete against the best Europe has to offer. Now that would be awesome. Keep up the good work your videos always make my day better.
The Octavia, is basically a redressed VW Golf/ Audi, build on same platform.
The Fabia is a redressed VW Polo.
Your new style of presenting needs a slight adjustment, everything is 4 to 3 for me xD
Great video, and a great car to be reckoned with!
the pops and bangs on this car are from they anti lag system. this holds the turbo on boost.
Old school Ford Escort BDA engine rally car.
If i see a skoda octavia in a thumbnail, i click.
Same. In my opinion, still one of the best looking WRC cars up to date, even if not really succesful.
My dad drove/owned on drivin by Armi Schwartz in loads of tarmac my Old man used it for gravel all I can say they are pieces of mechanical artwork incredible budget wrc car tgat has many parts interchangeable with the Subaru P2000 wrc car
The VAG cars only share floorpan and running gear. The body’s are all unique to each manufacturer. For a truly glorious rally car sound search Andy Burton Peugeot 306 Cosworth. Unfortunately he regularly beat cars worth loads more and the car was outlawed.
One of my favourite rally car the Octavia Wrc. Just take a look and hear the Escort Wrc. Its got brutal Als sound too 😁😁😁
Ah yes, 1U2 Octavia WRC, my beloved
Here in Poland Skoda Octavia and Fabia have been the best selling cars for almost 20 years straight since 2003, we love our German-Czech cars
"The Octavia is probably the best sounding Rally Car ever"
*Has a poster of a Quattro*
Its called ALS - anti lag system, meaning that poping sound when driver lifts his foot from accelarator
I've not watched this yet, but know you can't compare NASCAR with Rally or any other racing really!
I'm an Englishman who watched your "Dustcart" episode yesterday.
The British Dustcarts were the biggest and had rear steering! Dennis was a bus, fire engine & dust cart manufacturer (like Peterbuilt), then the credit crunch in 2008 happened now Dennis only make Dustcarts! (Garbage truck)
I’m going to the Supercars in Sydney next week, if I can get some good videos, I’ll send them your way to check out mate 👍🏻👍🏻
there are so many of these in my home country. common car in Finland and other European countries.
At least half of those clips are from rallies in Belgium, my home country.
You'll have to check out the BTCC (British Touring Car Championship). They have some really good-looking cars too.
Doug DeMiro reviewed a lovely 97' Citroen Xantia V6 that someone imported to the US. Probably the only one in north america. You might want to check it out..
My favourite type of motor sport is rally. I'm lucky enough to find and buy number 6 of the 77 Celica GT4 ST205 that came to Australia. I've now owned it for 11 year. It is one of the 2500 that Toyota had to build to conform to the homologation of Group A.
In the US you have the American Rally Association championship. So you do have rally.
These Pops when decelarating come from the anti-lag system
Mitsubishi Lancer WRC also sounds very special.
Sound a bit "broken" but its fast.
The closes troad legal and practical car to Octavia WRC would be I think Octavia RS (RallyeSprint). Search for those at online dealers.
The reason the Skodas look like Jettas is because Skodas are built around a Volkswagen chassis and engine, a lot of parts are VW, even the interior on older cars
Ian it is very easy to explain every Škoda is almost 100% last generation of VW from that class just like every new VW is almost the same car as the previous Audi, interconnected brands under one big VW Porsche Group, with the " individuall " design features and that is why VW is The Leader in the world, enjoy....!!!! Hallo from Germany Roccofahrer Miro from Croatia
Cant beat the sound of a sierra cosworth or mk2 escort rally car, giving it some beans
It looks like you have finally got your Skoda video. Most if not all car in the video were Skodas, and they were mostly Skoda Octavia
@IWrocker love your vids keep it up.I love my škodas too but i may be a bit biased 😅.That shape of octavia is the mk1.They are great cars,i have a yellow 2003 mk1 Octavia vRS hatch here in the UK.Its also known as an Octavia RS in the rest of Europe. This was due to Ford claiming the rights to the RS badge in the UK.The mk1 vRS came with a 1.8 20v Turbo engine (auq 180bhp) 0-60 7.9secs 146mph fwd i think might be less bhp in some parts of Europe also available as estate/wagon.The rally ones where 2.0 Turbo 4x4 as far as i know. Some of the police forces here used the mk1 vRS as interceptors back when they were new,now some of them use the newer octavia vRS.Since you love seeing cars from across the pond give my 14yr old son a follow on Instagram/tiktok @camwii64 he takes his own pics/vids of cars and edits them.Much love from the North of Scotland.🏴
look at some videos from rarum Czech rally, it's an ERC race on asphalt, but in the Czech Republic we have fucking bad asphalt, so the cars are really high and look more like cars with gravel settings and in combination with the fact that most of the stages are in the forest and for corner to corner, it is really flatout
Škoda fanboys, unite! Awesome video, these cars sound amazing!
hey Ian, you should totally check the renault clio R3, its the rally version of the clio sport, and it pops harder than any car i heard ever
the yellow one (thumbnail) is an octavia too 😍
For me it's a real shame the Octavia wasn't more successful in rallying. I have the mk4 and it's the best car ive had.
a 3rd and a 4th in 2001 which was its best year, they would probably have done quite well in Argentina the same year as well if not both (!) cars were knocked out by that firetruck. Limited funding for testing and in-house development so not anywhere near the 'giants' at the time in terms of financial muscles
2:22 "No car pops more" ...... 😁...... Try a group B Mazda RX7 (80's, early 90's) (czcams.com/video/laqW96hgydo/video.html)... when those cars popped and banged in your presence, you really felt it in your guts.
Or a Ford Escort Cosworth (also 90's) with an ALS (Anti Lag System) on it (czcams.com/video/u4p3Zem6i4c/video.html).
I think regulations nowadays make the present cars 'whisper' compared to back in those days. 🤣
first time seeing you without hat, keep up, do some reaction on FAP trucks, i know name is bit crazy for eng
God bless the Czech, cool rally cars, cool beer, cool guns ❤
Technicaly you have to bless VW for these cars. But no bother, we Germans love our neighbors and the czech beer too. Greetings from saxony. :)
@@miztazed Technicaly you have to bless Skoda Motorsport for these cars. Those cars are specially developed for the rally, :)
Yes, cool cars and cool beer. Not sure guns are cool though 🤔
Ι have the same car! 😊
Greetings from Czech. ✌️😁
