  • You want to build your own Purify Amplifier? Well... that's cool! We have made a complete tutorial for you, so you know what to buy, what it costs and what steps you need to take.
    We are still going to judge the sound of this new generation Class D amplifier. So this is not a review of this amplifier.

    Thanks for the video, but I believe you have miswired the IEC socket, despite your comments that it was carefully checked. Happy to be wrong!
    As I understand it, the red wire should be active and the black wire neutral. At 5:03 of your video, it is clear that you have wired the male IEC socket so that the red wire is on the right side when looking from the inside of the chassis, and thus would be on the left side when view from outside the chassis. That would be correct if the pins of the IEC socket were arranged to define an upright triangle, but the IEC socket supplied with the ghent case has the pins in the shape of an inverted triangle, and thus the hot pin is actually the one on the right side when viewed from outside the chassis and on the left side when viewed from within the chassis - the opposite of the way you have wired it.

    Great tutorial, but I hate to be the bearer of bad news. If you add up the cost of the components to build this, you are at approx $1426 US. VTV has factory built units based on these same boards for $1089. The whole point of DIY is to SAVE money. I could see this being a fun project and satisfying to know that you build it yourself, but is that satisfaction really worth paying an extra $337?

    Thanks for posting this. I have a question about the jumpers on the power supply. You state that the power supply comes in regulated mode and must be switched to unregulated mode. You state “swap-out the jumpers"? Swap out for what??? The word swap infers a replacement. Do you actually mean "remove the jumpers? I am a novice and need a little clarity there. Also, I am in the US and will need a jumper on the power supply for 110v. Could you clarify that implementation? I could not see it clearly in your video.Thanks.

      @marckant3611 Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Bob, I read your question about the jumpers. The following is stated in the additional pdf (Application Note - Connecting EVAL1 to SMPS1200A400) you can download from the website of Purifi Audio: "In addition to two set of cables that need to be prepared and connected, it is also of great importance to correctly set jumpers on the SMPS1200A400 to ensure it supplies UNREGUTLATED Vaux voltage rails." This means that you have to change the position of two jumpers on the SMPS1200A400. Hope this answers your question.

      Afaik Purify is the first Class D that is shown to get rid of hysteresis distortion for good. purifi-audio.com/blog/

      The Hypex NC series uses only post filter feedback loop, so it's identical to the Purifi - minimum inductor hysteresis distortion and load invariant operation. Either way, ASR distortion measurements gives advantage to the NC400 over the Purifi.
      I'm using the NC400 dual mono DIY kits with my NAD C658 preamp and Focal Aria 936 plus dual SVS SB2000 pro (managed by minidsp 2X4HD, instead of the NAD bass management, which cause inter sample distortion), and the sound is so good, an audiofool friend of mine was sure he's listening to a $100k system...
