- You want to build your own Purify Amplifier? Well... that's cool! We have made a complete tutorial for you, so you know what to buy, what it costs and what steps you need to take.
We are still going to judge the sound of this new generation Class D amplifier. So this is not a review of this amplifier.
Items in this video:
Purifi EVAL1 - ndt5.net/c/?si...
SMPS1200 - ndt5.net/c/?si...
Ghent Audio case + kabels - www.ghentaudio...
Love your channel. Such a variety of items covered and so much detail when shooting a comparison segment. I into DIY and so particularly appreciate this clip. Looking forward to the sound test and review.
Thanks man!
@@paw45 thanks!
Thanks for the video, but I believe you have miswired the IEC socket, despite your comments that it was carefully checked. Happy to be wrong!
As I understand it, the red wire should be active and the black wire neutral. At 5:03 of your video, it is clear that you have wired the male IEC socket so that the red wire is on the right side when looking from the inside of the chassis, and thus would be on the left side when view from outside the chassis. That would be correct if the pins of the IEC socket were arranged to define an upright triangle, but the IEC socket supplied with the ghent case has the pins in the shape of an inverted triangle, and thus the hot pin is actually the one on the right side when viewed from outside the chassis and on the left side when viewed from within the chassis - the opposite of the way you have wired it.
You could be right. But it didn't blow up... ;-).
Great job! Bravo! And your English is excellent! cheers!
Thanks man. You are too kind. :-)
@@TheAlphaAudio i guess dutch !
@@bikall1 yes....we are Dutch. :-)
Great tutorial, but I hate to be the bearer of bad news. If you add up the cost of the components to build this, you are at approx $1426 US. VTV has factory built units based on these same boards for $1089. The whole point of DIY is to SAVE money. I could see this being a fun project and satisfying to know that you build it yourself, but is that satisfaction really worth paying an extra $337?
Is there an amp with eigentakt + hypex?
1300€ material is not cheap.
You can also buy a ready-made AUDIOPHONICS HPA-S400ET!
I found that I don't get a whole lot of volume with this amp from my Leg LS50 metas. Is there a way to increase the gain?
Thanks for posting this. I have a question about the jumpers on the power supply. You state that the power supply comes in regulated mode and must be switched to unregulated mode. You state “swap-out the jumpers"? Swap out for what??? The word swap infers a replacement. Do you actually mean "remove the jumpers? I am a novice and need a little clarity there. Also, I am in the US and will need a jumper on the power supply for 110v. Could you clarify that implementation? I could not see it clearly in your video.Thanks.
Hi Bob, I read your question about the jumpers. The following is stated in the additional pdf (Application Note - Connecting EVAL1 to SMPS1200A400) you can download from the website of Purifi Audio: "In addition to two set of cables that need to be prepared and connected, it is also of great importance to correctly set jumpers on the SMPS1200A400 to ensure it supplies UNREGUTLATED Vaux voltage rails." This means that you have to change the position of two jumpers on the SMPS1200A400. Hope this answers your question.
Very interesting! state of the art! , the speaker connector .. can they accept normal banana plug type bind posts, or do you just plug the banana plug straight into the onboard connector?
worth mentioning that you can buy a pre assembled one with a better input buffer for the same price.
I suppose you mean input buffer.
Where?
Any details on where to purchase it?
Audiophonics
Great tutorial! Wel nog een vraagje / a question - so in the case of VTV they add a tube buffer; what would be required to replicate this? What components?
Thank you!
Sorry. I don't know. Maybe try a special DIY forum?
How does the amp dissipate heat ? Does the amplifier board need conduction to a heatsink ?
will we get a sound demo? maybe a comparison to your reference?
No sound demo for this one. Sorry. We do have a review on our website(s).
Looking at your video, the only scaring step is wheb you connect the SMPS to the power inlet. Could you post some photos or instructions?
You can read the full workshop on our websites (alpha-audio.nl / alpha-audio.net).
do you think there will be cases for multichannel/home-theater use in the future? only premade amp so far using purifi modules is the nad m28 7ch afaik
I highly doubt it.
Great videos, as always! Thanks
Welcome! Thanks!
And is it now one of the best amplifiers that i can buy? How it sounds?
The best is very subjective.. the result is a combination of a lot of factors...
after switching on, both eval boards are showing a bright red LED light, is this normal?
Yes
@@TheAlphaAudio yup, I also found it in the manual! Amp sounds great.
Great. Switches is always in max power mode?
Not sure what you mean.
@@TheAlphaAudio I mean standard Purifi jumpers. :) There are 2 variant of positioning with different dB. Anaway, cool amp.
Did this not come with binding posts or a power cord?
Nope... Banana is standard.
Do you think it would be possible to fit another purifi mono in there to make a 3 channel amp?
No. I don't think it will fit, because you also need An extra power supply.
Did you need to order the wiring harness from Purifi or was the Ghent kit sufficient without it?
@@emotive7 you need the Ghent wiring... The stock wiring is too short.
Does it work finally? :) the video is more months old now. I would prefer more to use the reference parts instead of the another oem builders. Anyway i would go with the nad.
It's running fine! :-)
@@TheAlphaAudio could you compare with the nad purifi?
@@arncht6507 we will. Expect a review soon.
@@TheAlphaAudio waiting for the sound review and comparison
@@srijithview there will be no sample video, because we use it at home. We did write a review.
alpha-audio.net/review/purifi-eigentakt-eval1-vs-nad-c298-twee-keer-uberklasse-d/
Thanks for video!. What is your opinion with this ET400 in front or vs. pass labs x150.8? Can you tell me an opinion about this comparision, please?, very very thanks
Totally different sound.
@@TheAlphaAudio but, what system consider better, or like???very thanks
@@user-pt2ew5vw9g There is no better or worse. It's the match that matters. There are situations that the Niali is better than the Pass. Overall the Pass is more 'musical' and you can take it further than the Nilai.
@@TheAlphaAudio very thanks. People of this hobbie or lovers music, tell me that the new purifi 9040 are in the top level sound quality, but....
Did you compare with the NAD class D?
We will... Soon.
Did this kit include a 12V trigger?
Check our review on alpha-audio.net. you can see all the connections.
The Purifi will give you zero advantage over the Hypex NC400, which gets better measurements results according to ASR...
Well... Compared them... At least sonically Purifi wins hands down.
@@TheAlphaAudio how would you compare Hypex nCore vs Purifi amp especially midbass and bass
Afaik Purify is the first Class D that is shown to get rid of hysteresis distortion for good. purifi-audio.com/blog/
Edit: maybe the NCore does it too (to some extent?) but we don't know.
@@andr.3348
The Hypex NC series uses only post filter feedback loop, so it's identical to the Purifi - minimum inductor hysteresis distortion and load invariant operation. Either way, ASR distortion measurements gives advantage to the NC400 over the Purifi.
I'm using the NC400 dual mono DIY kits with my NAD C658 preamp and Focal Aria 936 plus dual SVS SB2000 pro (managed by minidsp 2X4HD, instead of the NAD bass management, which cause inter sample distortion), and the sound is so good, an audiofool friend of mine was sure he's listening to a $100k system...
@@ebarbie5016 I believe you. The Aria 936 sure measured well by www.stereophile.com/content/focal-aria-936-loudspeaker-measurements (nice and even wide dispersion, not unlike Revel Ultima Salon II).
'Sounds' like a nice system you have there. I'll take some notes. I have Focal Chorus607 with Harman AVR430 and MiniDSP4x4HD as of now, so your system is basically 'goals' for me.
