    I'm going to start here and edit to add just because I'll forget my point. So yeah, I ended up just BUYING a stupid chevrolet power steering pulley puller. EVERY time I had to pull something or do work on an engine the darn POWER STEERING PULLEY needed to come of for one reason or another. After the second time I just broke down and bought one. It was probably one of my better put away but remember I have it tools..
    edit: man oh man, it's that camera that slows everything down.. rain doesn't help nor does the cold and everything you have to do to compensate for either! It's ALWAYS a great day when you upload for us all to enjoy, thank again for the hard work you share with us!!

    My dad always drove cars that one could reasonably describe as "needing a bit of love". Which meant that every couple of years, there'd be an engine all over the basement floor. I was always amazed that he'd get them back together again, running much better than when he started. The first such I remember was a Ford Fairlane early-1960s wagon that he took apart in perhaps 1968. I was a wee lad of 5, but I remember oily pans all over his workbench with valves and rockers and lifters and the like. I don't think we replaced that vehicle until 1971 or so with a 1968 Firebird. But TBH, I think I'm learning more watching your channel than I learned from all my dad's forays into engine repair. He grew up during WWII in the UK. It was inconceivable to him to NOT do all his own engine repairs, including complete rebuilds...

  • @ernmeister54
    @ernmeister54 Před rokem +9

    Nice job explaining things as you go. I wonder if there is enough room on the power steering pulley to make a hole without making it unbalanced. Also, many years ago I remember valve grinders that looked like miniature hand powered mixers. If you could find one of those somewhere, that would speed up your valve lapping. Looking forward to next week;)

    I had that problem when I put a 327/375hp cam in a 283 cu.in motor. I pushed the studs out of heads, it ran about month then valves wouldn’t adjust. We figured out what was wrong. Back in 1969 we didn’t have screw in studs. I found a set of 327/300hp heads. Really woke up that 283. Kept blowing exhaust pipes. Wish I still had that little yellow 57 Chevy. Diamond pleated interior, Hurst shifter. I only got 3 miles per gallon. Like the positive vibe your channel has. Plus the down home education value this channel has. You really take the mystery out of mechanical stuff. Don’t know what day you filmed this, but darned tooting it’s got cold in the Volunteer state.

    I keep saying the same thing about how much longer things take lately. At times I'll blame in on my age, but then again many times it takes more time moving the camera around and setting up for the best shot than it does to actually do the work. Anyways, keep up the good work, I'm definitely a fan, you remind me a lot like myself.

    A vacuum hose on the stem portion of the valve, then the other end of the vacuum hose in a drill works really well for lapping valves. Just gotta remember to oil the valve guides down some and go slow with the drill. Sure it easier than lapping valves by hand and those suction cups don't always stick, they slid around too easy imo.
