As an employability trainer for a training organisation, these tips are useful, but I'd add: don't answer the questions like you've learned the answers. Show a bit of personality and try to turn what might feel like an interrogation (hint: interviews aren't an interrogation, that's nerves playing tricks) in to a slightly more relaxed chat about you and the company you're applying for. You're interviewer wants to know that you're the type of person who gets along with people and will gel with a team...

I am a hiring manager at a pediatric hospital in a very specialized field, Flow Cytometry. I appreciated your tips and found them to be good solid advice. I have interviewed many candidates over the last couple of years and have been surprised at some of the basics that get overlooked. I always offer water and it is more frequently declined. The fidgeting and negative talk are both really distracting. Your advice about selling oneself is important. I think candidates forget that we are often interviewing multiple candidates who not only have the same education, but have the same number of years of experience. It becomes even more critical to tells us why should we hire you, what do you bring to the table that sets you apart from the other candidates. It doesn’t always have to be a specific accomplishment either, it could be something as simple as a “can do attitude “ and the willingness to try something different that might set you apart from another candidate. The suggestion to connect on a personal level, could be the thing that gets your name remembered in the candidate review process.

One tip I would say to all who had an interview, SEND A THANK YOU EMAIL, if you have the hiring manager email of course (he could send you an email confirming the interview before it happened), don’t dig searching for the email if you don’t have it, you could send a voicemail to.
I had my job interview on tuesday, I send my thank you email (not a template, just get ideas but never use one) on thursday about 10 am, and I got a call about 12 pm from the hiring manager offering me an employment offer, I didn’t hesitate and I accepted it :)!
I will start my job on Monday as a C# developer! Foreign english speaker writing here (I’m sure I did some speaking errors in my interview btw).

@@miyuden4118 what questions did they make you?

    • @miyuden4118
      @miyuden4118 Před 5 lety +18

@@moisesf.7017 They told me to say something about me. I did hold my past short but informative enough that they had an idea what I did before. Then they asked how I start my workday. If I start work with coffee or what I do when I come to work.
I told them that I start mostly 10 minutes early preparing for work that I have everything ready. (no coffee, I don't drink coffee in the morning)
Then they asked the typical question where do I see myself in 10 years of now.
I told them "Heavily invested in the stock market" We had a laugh and they asked if I have stocks from the company. I answered with a not yet, explaining that It yet is too high. 🤣 We laughed again and they said that one day it will go down. To what I responded with, "most probably when you bought the other company"
They where surprised and we talked a bit about my past work and how I came to investing in the stock market.
Then they explained the work I will have in the company and asked if that sounds interesting to me. I agreed and then they asked what my salary exception is. I did what I shouldn't and answered with a number. They agreed though and said that's what they where thinking about aswell. (I somehow don't belive that, but I think that can be negotiated after a year or so).
Then it already was done, they had a smile and we talked on the way to the door. They said they will tell me the result in round about one week, which they did and they asked when I can start. ;)
Long story but I really liked that interview and one really important part is that you really should enjoy the interview. It is amazing. First time I went in an interview with a good feeling from the start til the end.

my most extraordinary interview was when I was trying myself for the position of an English teacher. Instead of starting a regular conversation with the regular question, they just gave me a book and said, "Open a random page and read and act out what you are reading". Acting skills and ability to engage was the most important to them. But today I am watching this video to prepare for another interview and I think the video has just put me in the right mindset! Thanks for the wonderful tip. Last week, I had my interview scheduled with Nestle based in Milan, Italy for the position of "Technology Expert - Personal Productivity, Discovery, & Insight", however, I felt they asked more of a personal development generic type of question rather than my skill set and experience which was completely matching with their requirement. Question asked were 1) How you managing to keep up with latest technology 2) Over the last 12 months have you achieved anything significant 3) What are your goals in life. When they asked me about me If I had anything to ask I used one of your key points "Of all my skill which one will be most required for this job role" I was informed we are expecting who can handle entire end to end process putting risk in mind , how to mitigate risk etc although it wasn't mentioned or required for this role as it is more of a Project Manger or Tech lead role. Eventually, I received automated mail from HR that they will not be pursuing with my application although I answered with my best possible way I could.

Saw "tell me about yourself" video yesterday and done the round 1 phone call interview.
Check on this one today while waiting for the result.
I was nervous in the last one and realize I need more practices to make it better.
    Hope for a good result.

    Hi Gideon,
I found your channel some days ago, by far the best of the English learning ones I have tried.
I carefully watched all videos since then.
    This was my last one.
So, a request: could you make more of them about tip #9, English idioms?
Learning to use wholeheartedly and that kind of words is pretty (not very ;-) ) useful.
    Cheers.
