    Love Danny Murphy. He is so much more than a footballer and a pundit. This guy is a real national treasure for England. If he was Irish they would have him on every chat show in our country. Also an unbeleivable pundit. Danny please come on the 'late late show' whenever you decide to release a book.

    Really admire Danny for opening up and being so honest. I'm sure he will help others with his story. Glad he's doing better now.

    I like Danny Murphy, was never sure why.
    Not surprised to find out he's had mental health struggles as I've found that can make a person really humble, helpful and honest.
    A really good pundit!

    He was a really good football player, remember first noticing him at Liverpool and thought he was one of their top players back then.

    Excellent that Danny is speaking out. Men seem to be terrible about speaking about their emotions and mental health. Sadly, this is reflected in the male suicide rates, which is at twenty year high for men across all age ranges. Speaking out is the first step. There is help out there, I speak from personal experience. I was a danger to myself and was sectioned in 2014. I think we have a toxic masculinity in this country. Like Danny said men are taught from childhood not to show weakness. I read a book by Robert Webb from Peep Show called How Not To Be A Boy. Well worth a read.

      We also have plummeting testosterone rates and sperm count which never gets mentioned in the discussion on men's issues.

    Good to see more people speaking about their experiences, some things are just too much to handle on your own, and swallowing your pride and admitting that fact can be the hardest step.
    Hope this gets out to those needing to hear this, well played Talksport and Danny Murphy.

    Trouble is that it catches up with you, if you do not deal with it. Shame, is the perfect word because it's what you feel. Understand though it is not brave to struggle, its brave to get help. Support the Maytree Foundation if you get the chance, which is a brilliant charity, helped me, no saved me. Take care all.

    Ignoring how much players get paid ... the scrutiny they get now, the standard at which they have to play at, the abuse they get online if things aren’t going well, must be hard

    Yes well said Danny, but what your forgetting is when you asked for help you got it others ask for help and have to wait 18 months to see a mental health team on the NHS. You have the PFA and your old clubs etc others have no one and no money to go private health care route then don’t want to suffer in silence but they do as no one listens, not to mention all your media duties and money from that including the BBC job. Your rock bottom is probably someone else’s dream situation. I guarantee you tho someone else’s rock bottom without all the perks you have, you would not survive it. Its the same now with ex Prince Harry doing media interviews for millions and millions just telling everyone he’s the victim and how hard done by he is and has had it so hard phffftt.

    • @DirtyJamesUK
      @DirtyJamesUK Před 3 lety

      @@scoptzZyNelibot yh the comment isn't PC, but it's real and not brain dead.
      Poor people who struggle know how much of a difference money can make to that struggle.
      For starters his mental health could be helped by a good professional. Within days he could start to feel better. For a person on benefits with mental health issues they can wait for over 5 long frustrating years and have to keep fighting just to get a useless counsellor who might even make them worse.
      Really glad for Danny's insight here though. He's descriptive and intelligent.

    • @scoptzZyNelibot
      @scoptzZyNelibot Před 3 lety

      @@DirtyJamesUK You clearly are very naive when it comes to the topic of mental health. The whole existence of success and financial stability can feed into a bad mental state. When you have nothing to live for happiness becomes ever more difficult. Tyson Fury is the classic example, just after winning the world title he found himself on the brink of suicide in a very small amount of time. No matter what your situation, mental health is real and making some stupid patronising comment about how he could afford to hire an accountant shows how backwards our society still is when it comes to this topic.

    • @DirtyJamesUK
      @DirtyJamesUK Před 3 lety

      @@scoptzZyNelibot no it is you that is being naive. I did not say that mental health issues were not possible when you're rich. I completely understand where they can come from and why. But my comment stated that being able to afford mental health help is really a huge luxury. Because for those that aren't well off good help might not even be out there. It might just be a mirage. And I don't speak from a place of naivety on the topic

    • @DirtyJamesUK
      @DirtyJamesUK Před 3 lety +2

      @@scoptzZyNelibot you honestly believe that success and financial stability can feed into a bad mental state anywhere near as quickly as failure and financial turmoil??
      I understand you feel you have an opinion but think about what you're saying before you attempt to condescend.
