You've got my attention dj Stingray. Impressive bangin. A few too many dj's from Detroit turned soft - no longer take a chance, play it safe, and that sort of commercial pandering.
This guy is awesome. if he goes to your city, don't hesitate, go and enjoy the night.
Never played in Detroit to my knowledge. Cool cause it added to the mystery of the music and where it came from. Nobody knew.
The internet kind of ruins that kind of stuff. You can find out anything about anything. Most dj's nowdays became dj's without ever stepping foot in a record store. They learned from watching yt videos.
@@tonyking313 So why is that worse? Times change and inspiration can take many forms.
One way is not better or worse, just a different level of consumerism and type of consumer. When you participate in a small-scale culture like the one that existed in Detroit you are keeping the different stores, clubs, promoters, and dj's alive and creative. It is a reciprocal process where they all feed off one another. When you play for the scene and the music and remove money from the equation, because there wan't much money to be made in Detroit, then you suddenly have ability to create what you want without the controlling mechanisms of the music industry. That's what made Detroit techno... Detroit techno. Times have changed by the almighty hand of the music industry and the lure of their money has drawn once-great dj's away from their art. I'll bet my Drexciya 4 double pack that Stingray doesn't give a fuck about the Beatport weekly top 10 or playing the kind of safe EDM music that you would hear at a festival. You are hearing the underground come out of the shadows in 2013. That's inspiring!
