what about shifting,do both levers have shifters, how does it work with one lever in one gear and the other in another,or does one shifter work both gears.I inquired, but only VA insurance,no medicare.I was upset about the price, but now understand the huge development cost, but it is sad, that so many go without, something as basic as a wheelchair.

    • @riowheelchairs

it is highly unlikely the chair will come off as it is set in a deep channel that prevents it from popping out of place

4000.00 is a joke,or is this other company that thinks its cool to charge insurance one price and the consumer another.I would love going back to the old America.Fair pricing,I don't know anything about this company, but I would hope it cost in the hundreds, not thousands. Its a modified bike hub and lever assembly. For 4000.00 I expect gold plating on the lever and a light weight titanium wheel chair with it.

We appreciate your comment, but will like to make clear that the cost of developing a product is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and manufacturing, shipping costs all come to play a role in the pricing of a product. development, design, manufacturing, shipping, and all the people that work to make this product deserve to be paid a fair wage. All those variables are taken into account when pricing our products

manual wheelchair have been unchanged for so long, trying to push yourself around with the wheel, gets old quick, you can't keep up with anybody and racing wheelchairs don't fit the bill.

I would love to start a manufacturing company,to produce affordable mobility devices, imagine being disabled and actually being able to afford a mobility device,a light weight wheelchair that folds up and doesn't cost 2,000 dollars and its made in American. They all lie,oh its too costly to manufacture in American, greed is the reason

    • @EmzyT0

Someone has actually designed a lever drive attachment that you can 3D print and has the designs up for people to use for free. I am hoping I can find a 3d printing company or it looks like the pieces would be small enough too print off on a cheap 3d printer....Might cost £100 for cheap printers, but even with expense of buying a 3d printer it would still be cheaper by several thousands too the prebuilt hand drive chairs and can then print off spare parts if needed!
I have a power chair now, but looking at these so I can make a manual chair rig to do dryland Mushing with my dogs. I can’t self propel in a manual chair (Even when I wasn’t too bad and not too long after training horses 12+ hours a day 7days a week, so even with good muscle tone my back, shoulders and neck couldn’t cope with turning wheels!), but I could use level system, so hoping the 3d hand drive levers will make it possible for me too be helping too keep chair moving, so my dogs aren’t pulling my full weight!
I also completely agree regarding costs of disability equipment. I’ve been disabled for almost 9 years, would have benefited from a chair for most of those years, but 3years ago I needed a power chair from a safety standpoint. The problem was my disability benefits were stopped just before this stage and I spent 2 years building up debts, not eating most days of the week and so couldn’t afford even a second hand chair. The NHS does give out powered wheelchairs, but the problem is the chairs they give out are very light duty, low powered etc.....this is fine for people in cities and towns that have nice smooth pavements, but for people like me that live in the countryside, with towns built on steep hills, very few pavements (when you do find a pavement it’s very uneven), and have no way too avoid gravel, mud etc when on the way from car park too shop, hospital etc, the chairs you can get free are completely useless outside of your house! But then when I got back paid and went too find a chair suitable for where I live, I found the price went up by at least £10,000, even for 2nd hand chairs! It’s like there’s a tax on cripples that happen to live in rural areas in the UK!
In the end I managed too find a mid range chair 2nd hand for just under £3,000 and it has done pretty well this year unless the grounds wet....the problem is in Devon it usually rains 365days a year and it’s just been sheer luck that we had a dry summer this year! Just a shame that 2nd hand meant I didn’t have a choice with the seat, so I don’t have the electric recline, leg raiser or lift up seat that I would really benefit from. Thankfully tilt helps relieve some spinal pressure, but feel like a flipped turtle being laid back, in seated position lol!
I just wish I had mechanic skills because I’d have built my own! It certainly wouldn’t cost well over £12,000 too build a real off road chair that can be used in house as well, Hell there is a chap with a website about making great off road chairs for cheap! Just a shame I don’t have the skills or friends with skills to follow his tutorials!

We are sorry you feel that way. We are doing our best to keep costs down and always improve in the design and quality of our product. But if you are ever able to start a manufacturing company in America and can make it more affordable than us, then we welcome you into the market and competition.
