Don't you think it is ridiculous to ask a parent of a young child how much they need for future education? Higher courses' fees differ from course to course, institution to institution. CA doesn't cost much, MBBS costs a lot. BTech from BITS and BTech from Manipal are two different burdens altogether. Most people save as liquid/ short term/ long term needs. Also, most people adapt lifestyle to match earnings, savings and investment.
No it's not ridiculous. Yes the cost of courses as well as institutions differ but given your current economic situation and considering future prospects you will and I say must set certain limits in mind. For example, OK I think I want to be able to finance my child's education abroad. Today it will cost me 50Lakhs INR so maybe in 15 years it will cost me 1Cr. Therefore, that's my goal. Now the child may not decide to go abroad or maybe the child ops for a costlier course or due to some other reason needs more that's a situation you will have to deal with then but at least you established a goal and hopefully reached it so the basics are taken care of.
