I had a 3 hp Briggs & Stratton that I built for a mini back a couple years back. Port and polished, shaved the head, lightened the flywheel, I even welded and did my own grind on the cam lobes, drilled the jet, and made my own little intake from a tuna can. Never got stiffer springs, but that thing would rev out and pull pretty hard and the lope at idle sounded so nice with a long tube header.

    Hay CarsandCameras JNaasty here.
I think a easy modification for you guys to do. Would be to put on front Tire fenders on and modifying the location of the brake and gas pedals on to the left and right tire covers. It also gives you a more adequate location for your feet by you being able to dig your heels into a set of pegs mounted on the wheel wells.
For the rear back tire covers you can not only protect your pants from getting torn up. While at the same time you are giving your 6 a firm stable location to be planted in.
Ps On a side note you know those shocks that come on the Mongoose dual suspension mountain bikes. The shock for the rear. Those would make excellent rear shocks for that Red Rider. I mean you would have to build a custom 4-link suspension to use it maybe A 5 link rear suspension might be better to use. But I know you can see it in your head just by reading this comment and thank we can do it & It Will Be Fine.

That 90 degree gear box would work nicely on the drag rail. 670 turned sideways with the exhaust sticking up on both sides, ram air scoop in the middle, driveshaft back to gear box and a nice short chain. Likely improve driveline efficiency and trap times. Looks like it has a fairly heavy splined input shaft so it should handle the power without any problem.

I have a stock 212 on a homemade 12v generator and it is amazlingly quiet but most of the noise is from the engine, I can almost not hear the exhaust over the engine itself.

    Aloha from Hawai'i guys.
WOW I forgot about this build, has it been 2 years already? The older I get the faster time flies. You guys should put vertical butt protector plates on each side, it'll keep you from sliding around and give you more confidence to go faster doing laps on the property. Don't ever change that Briggs motor for a more modern Honda clone. That old flat-head Briggs is a perfect match for the rat rod like the old flat-head Ford V-8s are to full size rat rods. I like how the frame and other steel parts got "rattier" with age adding to the look. Don't ever paint the rusted metal, just Ospho it to stop further rusting while adding protection. Mahalo nui for another great video.

Definitely back fenders that double as a pants saver. Also a back rest of some sort. Bigger motor, better front tires.. lol that's all I got. For now... lol

Guys, I'm an old man, turn 70 last week. I heard you say B&S engine parts were hard to find? Are they belly up? I remember powering my old mountain bikes with Briggs engines, there larger 7.5 or 9hp engines were great.

Mike, Briggs is far from belly up. For any parts, just find the part number for what you need and search on the internet. Many parts can be bought on eBay and Amazon. Don’t think we will see a shortage of Briggs parts in the next century

Stock parts are available just fine. Hopped up racing parts have pretty much been phased out in favor of OHV engine parts.

The grill looked awesome on the kart it gave it a genuine look you all should polish it and put it back on the cart, and you all should add some fenders

Foot pegs in a position just behind the front wheels with the throttle and brake controls, it looked like a good place to set. Mud guards for the front wheels if you go that route and care about getting messy.
