I've worked at a store that sells Hallmark cards for the past 9 years. Men walk into that aisle, step up to the right section, pick up a card, read it, go to the register and pay for it. Total time 3 minutes 04 seconds. A woman walks over to the Hallmark cards, spends the next half hour reading cards, laughing, reading more, wiping a tear, then moving off to other aisles to buy her stuff, and didn't even buy a card. Just wanted to look at them.
Thats the point..its all about the thought to get the right one. My mum spend ages writing the message for everyone...I would find rehearsals on scraps of paper around the house...

We were never 'card people' in our family. But, if 'the girls' were coming round, shortly after Mother's Day, may God have mercy on your soul if you didn't fork out for a Mother's Day card.
Five cards were expected to be in view of 'the girls', along with flowers (which mother had bought for herself).
Father never got a thing. His friends weren't allowed in the house! ;)

From experience of working in card shops… Yes, straight men are hopeless at choosing a card. 9 times out of 10, for their wife’s birthday or their anniversary they buy the biggest card at the top of the rack and don’t even read the words. So I spent my life checking it wasn’t their ruby, or golden anniversary. 😂 Also the sheer panic when they can’t find the humorous rack, cause men only give their male friends funny cards.

"I wrote your name and that...." it said "Good Luck in your new life." To be fair how was I meant to know you get cards so specifically for like emigrating or something?
Cards are only important from kids. They can’t gift you anything else yet, they put all their love in it. I think like men hang onto things from their childhood, like never grow up in certain aspects, women neither do. It’s a relict from their childhood. I am not into cards, never was. But I can see where it stems from. :)
