  • I just got a 2022 Kawasaki KLX140RF (replaces the KLX240G.) In this video, I'm just going over all of the reasons why I chose to go with this bike as my first 4-stroke trail bike instead of other 125/230 options from Yamaha / Honda / Kawasaki / Suzuki. Here's the exact bike I have: www.kawasaki.com/en-us/motorc...

    thanks for putting this video up! Im 6'2" /200lbs and Im giving this bike some serious thought... I know its on the small side (but hopefully not too small), Im still a bit of a beginner, tried a crf250f last summer but the size and weight didnt inspire much confidence and was a bit intimidating to be learning on..

    I got this same bike 2022 about 3 weeks ago I’m 29 and I love it I would have been happy with a Honda 125 big wheel or 230 or somthing but here in Massachusetts basically all Hondas are gone.. and pretty much being bought as they order. Also no need for kick start my guy.. the bike is SOO light you can just pop start it.. clutch in 1st gear run and jump on the bike and let go of the clutch and she starts

    All your reasons WHY you bought this bike are Very similar to my list. I just bought the exact same bike and I can't wait to ride it. You mentioned you're waiting for a carrier to transport it to trails. I bought the black widow which has weight limit up to 400lbs. I have a yamaha xt250 dual sport which I love, but it's heavy 300lbs. So I wanted to get something similar in size (wheels, ground clearance, all the same stuff you mention) but lighter and this bike was the answer. I'm older and short so this will be my 'training bike for muscle memory and skills + I want to be able to throw it around (sort of speak) and master it. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks! I actually have a black widow hitch carrier as well. I use it regularly to haul this klx and my yz250 around. I bought my yz after this bike and still haven’t changed my mind about the klx being the better bike for me to this day

    Great video! Most people say it's better than the Honda 125. I have the $$ for the MSRP, just gotta come up with $ for the tax, fees, and all the gear.
    You definitely helped with my decision 👍👍

    • @PatOutdoors
      @PatOutdoors  Před rokem

      It's 100% better than a Honda 125, just by having a bit more power, larger wheel set, and a rear disc brake.

    I think you made a good choice. Electric start is good, we aren't 18 anymore. If you driven a car with a clutch or anything with a clutch you shouldn't have a problem. Pull clutch in to break or it dies like a car. I got so comfortable with my dirt bike i could shift without the clutch. ( speed shifting) I freaking Love dirt bikes. Most my teen years i was on one. My first time on a bike when i was kid i popped the clutch and took off into some sticker bushes. Got cut up pretty good. Don't do that hehehehe. Disc breaks are a must if your going faster then 30 mph on anything :) SO COOL. i am excited for you.......

    • @PatOutdoors
      @PatOutdoors  Před rokem +1

      Thanks man! Yeah, I've had my fair share of cars and bikes with clutches, but never did slow speed rough terrain with it so I guess we'll just have to see how different it is. I almost got a Chinese dirt bike from Amazon last week, but I just didn't wanna have a miserable first day riding trails with something that may not be reliable or fully capable of the job.

    go down one tooth in the front sprocket for a cheap and easy power gain. vent the airbox and take out the spark arrestor.

    • @PatOutdoors
      @PatOutdoors  Před rokem +1

      I understand going down one tooth gives the bike a lot more noticeable low-end torque, but takes away a bit from top-end speed. Do you happen to know by how much?

      @@PatOutdoors one tooth on the front is a big jump in gearing. just going up one or two teeth on the rear should be a better option unless you are only ever in really tight trails.
      gearing too low can mess up the jetting due to less loading. it ends up revving higher with only a slight throttle opening and the OEM did not set it up for that. in those cases in order to not get too lean we have had to replace the slide needle with a thinner/richer one to keep the jetting right.
      on another note.. all bikes are sensitive to where the rear axle is sitting. for example a twitchy MX bike can be made more stable by getting a longer chain and keeping the axle as far back as possible. on the other hand if you like doing wheelies, get the axle way forward. when messing with gearing you may need a couple diff length chains to try. that will give better options in axle placement and also account for room as the chain wears. have fun!
