- Hello all! Today's project was a lot of fun to make. I've had these crystals for a while (silver and purple-ish ones), and when I saw the tinsel hair... I know it was the perfect opportunity. So, I present to you this special custom of Rarity (MLP G4)! I'm not tooooo happy with the dress but I hope it gives you some ideas. All the materials are kind of cheap and easy to find, so you can try this custom yourself!

Ooh she definitely looks like an ice skater! The only thing I feel like would make it more of a crystal pony is adding the pearlescent paint to the white. I think that might be like the crystal ponies in the show

Getting older would suck less if grays hairs grew out like that! I love the colors you chose and the finished pony. So stinkin' cute!!!
I've embraced the greys, but I'm in my mid 30s now so they're still fairly sparse, plus my hair is dark blonde so they mostly look like highlights from a distance. I wish I could add new hairs to the thinning areas though! 😅
I absolutely love how she turned out. The pastel colour you mentioned comes across in my brain as if she was wearing sheer fabric and like...yes, rarity would XD

I love using pearlescent paint when I customize my pony figurines, it makes them look really pretty and shiny, I did that with a bunch of my mini pony figurines and they came out looking amazing, I absolutely love these types of videos!

I can imagine Rarity, as she ages and her hair starts turning silver, wearing something just like this.
in the last episode, when its shown she ages, she actually has a grey hair streak and wears a midnight blue cape/dress
if you want to avoid messy water drips or potential mold, i would use a hair dryer!! it gives the same heat and stuff, without the mess :) it heats up the glue too so it comes off like a charm!!
Lighter purple was definitely the right choice in my opinion. It makes it look more like a body suit (think Britney Spears in Toxic) and it also reflects the opalescent paint better. If it were darker, it might run the risk of looking more like silk or leather and less sheer.
Disco ice skater fits the vibe of that hair and outfit combo so much 😂

Tinsel looks very original with less nylon 😍 once I cleaned g4 baby pony, it is very hard to take off this neck joint, it was literally glued in with body.

I watch videos from another creator who uses the Fabri-tac glue specifically to make shiny mouth insides, as well as drips and strings of saliva on the teeth on some of his monster creations. He uses it for nothing else. 😂
Learning from others is how we grow! It never hurts to try new things and adopt techniques from others. ❤
My tip for other people looking to try customizing on a budget, perhaps those just starting or seeing if they enjoy it, is to remember that hair can be salvaged from thrift store dolls with decent hair, or dollar store/pound shop/etc and inexpensive dolls from mega stores like Walmart, etc. Moderately tangled hair can often be straightened with a hair iron on low. Make sure it is dry first! I bought a small straight and curling combo hair iron specifically to fix the hair on a few limited edition Build-A-Bear MLP plush. I haven't had the guts to do it yet, but I've seen plenty of videos that should help, including yours! ❤

If you want to try a pony covered in crystals, please go for it. I think that would be so beautiful with holographic tinsel or iridescent tinsel for the mane and tail. I would love to see you create something like that.

I actually LOVE the pastel color but maybe it would have looked nice if there was a gradient from the hooves and the neckline that was the brighter purple that moved to the pastel shade??? Love the crystal trimming here!

I've used nail polish on a few custom pony's myself....but that's when I was first starting out w/customs.
Really love your videos! 9:40, what we call them where I live is twist-ties or twisty-ties :)
i would be a little careful with nail polish on customs! it can definitely work sometimes but i've heard cases where it yellows quickly with time and UV exposure. since it's made to only be on our nails for a short time it isn't manufactured to stay the same quality and color so long. that said, i have gotten away with it before when painting plastic eyes for plushes i made, and i even used it to customize ponies when i was 10... sorry fluttershy for coating your hair in red glitter polish... point being: use dedicated craft paint if you can, and use nail polish if you want to as well (it can be a great starting point for beginner crafters) just be careful when you do!
looks kinda like she has an Elvis outfit on :) so ace :) have you tried to restore one of the G1 outfits before ? if not would love to see a vid on that :)
i love this one a lot!! definitely would have wanted to own this as a kid. she looks like she's about to pop on some ice skates! the hair is pretty incredible, and i kept thinking the streaks reminded me of a punk rock hairstyle.
the crystals almost remind me of scales, like on a butterfly or a mermaid or something. i wonder if you could use them as that, or if using something like tiny sequins or big glitter would have a similar effect.
as for the nail polish, i wonder if using a sealant would help with the longevity of it? i'm not sure if there's a clear acrylic paint, but there's definitely some pastel looks that could be really cool if there's a thin layer of white acrylic. not sure how to get around the brushstroke streaks that i'd expect would happen.

instead of dunking the head in hot water I've seen people put it in a plastic bag first and then the hot water in case you don't like the mess, that way you get the same effect but less wet hair!
I felt like glitter could be amazing here too for transition... especially holographic.

She's gorgeous! Did you put rhinestones all the way around the legs? If so, how did you do it? I have so much trouble trying to both paint and glue things to the inside of the legs, any tips would be welcome!
I have an old Rarity that I used while playing with a treadmill, the treadmill shaved off the tip of her horn and her ear tips, along with her hooves. Later on I painted her with acrylic paint lol… I have a couple ponies I did the treadmill thing to, I wish I didn’t

Hmm... I'm not sure how I feel about the tinsel hair! It's a different texture from nylon, acrylic, or natural hair and really is just... weird to me. I don't mind some as accents, but it feels very unnatural as the full hair! Still, the pony is as beautiful as all of your ponies - I really love her, my personal preferences for hair aside ;) She looks like she's dressed up for a fancy gala and I absolutely love it.
I've seen soft wax pencils for picking up and placing rhinestones for nail art, and I wonder if this would be easier to use than the tweezers.

If you can I would suggest medical forceps for removing the hair, they lock and really grip on so you can pull the hair and glue out.

Hey MLP repair! Can I possibly get some advice on repairing my Skylanders? I love these toys and have since I was a little boy but a lot of them have marker marks on them and I can't wash them off I want to restore them to their former glory if you have any wisdom you could share I would love a response
