- NOTE : Getting the Magnet Beam has become somewhat of a bone of contention, as I didn't get it on the way through Elec Man's stage. I did however get it in another video, so you can see it here :
• Mega Man V - Dark Moon...
Fair warning, filmed in glorious Chipmunk Time due to back-in-the-day strict CZcams time limits. Also with back-in-the-day lack of dragon energy. But hey, we got it!
Time to set the wayback machine and get back to where it all started. It's time to return to Mega Man 1 and settle things with the doc. The fortress stages of Mega Man 1 lack the fanfare of later games, with no map showing what his fortress even looks like this time. I have however been told that official art shows that apparently it's not so much a fortress this time as Wily just took over a robot factory somewhere in the Pacific. I'm pretty sure this was retconned and he did have a fortress all his own in Powered Up, but, well, that's another game for another time. For now, it's time to face off against Stage 1 and the Yellow Devil, and all the tedium therein.
Perfect World Outtake Song :

"Trick and Magic" - Dynasty Warriors 7 Xtreme Legends Soundtrack - Hry
Looking back at this, it's a blessing they made the Yellow Devil take 2 damage from the buster. Otherwise the fight literally could have been twice as long.
Sitting through that 28 times...dear grief I don't want to think about it XD
28 times *minimum.*
Remember, the highest eye placement exists.
And I'm fairly sure with so many opportunities it would happen at least twice, only less with RNG on your side.
this is why you use the elecman Pause glitch
@@chillstoneblakeblast3172 a blessing
You got balls and insane amounts of patience to do these runs without any powers :)
fond memories of finally beating this boss as a kid. we called this guy Mudman back in the day.
5:52 One day in Wily's lab:
"At last! I have created the ultimate weapon - a robot that can harness the power of tedium to bore my enemies to death!"
"I hope this works better than that robot you made out of instant-death spikes."
"How was I to know it would try to scratch an itch?"
It's great to see you finally getting back to Mega Man; the intro was a nice added touch.
Regarding the Big Eyes, I remember getting pretty good results by simply getting close and then turning around and retreating just ahead of them while waiting for an opening. If you stay close, you can reverse and duck under them as soon as you see them do a high jump. It works pretty consistently if your reflexes are up to the task.
Man, how did you dodge all of that without taking damage? Impressive!
I present dot point Number One on Roahm's resume:
- 10 years experience in everlasting peace without getting hit
I did that too after getting killed continuously for 2 weeks straight I cleared the whole game no damage .....
no way. muscle memory out the ass
Impressive gameplay as always. I'm glad to see a return of the Perfect Runs. I look forward to seeing the rest of the Wily Stages!!
Another fun video! I'm looking forward to the next Wily stages, as well as your very insightful videos about them.
Roahm...that intro was just perfect ! A very nice little retrospective ;) Im pretty excited about these runs. Thank you for doing them :D
How exciting! I started watching you a few months ago, and now I can follow along as you return to your roots :)
8:21.
Oh, goodness. I was about to mention that after you said 'your special eye', but then you went and did it for me.
Thank you. That was hilarious.
thx man, you inspired me to come back to this game and beat the yellow demon. My soul can rest in peace now
This makes me happy. :D
Thanks for returning to Mega Man!
i can't play this game withouth save states, I'm not very patience
*patient
OniLordMiki lol, and that's why you wanna make an english course if you're brazilian
Holy shit, I didn't even remember I had commented here with my alt account. I was so bad at Mega Man (and English), and now I'm doing perfect runs just like RoahmMythril...
Time flies, shit happens.
lal
i use the save state after defeating a robot master.
but i use the save state just before yellow devil because that battle is so FUCKING hard ._.
Same
You hit the nail on the head as to why people wanted to see Yellow (Orange?) Devil PR'ed. It was one of those things I honestly didn't think was possible. Maybe it was nostalgia, or we all were so used to the Thunder Beam Pause Trick that we couldn't imagine doing it without that. I'm sorry I doubted you, O Great Dragon.
WHAT!? PERFECT RUNS ONCE MORE!?
I never thought this would happen....Yet, I adore it...Thanks, sir!
Amazing and flawless, nice job dude.
I love the intro. Good job on the level!
In my opinion, Yellow Devil is very hard the first couple times playing through. However, afterward a few times, you realize he has a simple pattern. Plus there's also the Thunder beam trick. So... yeah, he is easy as long as you pay attention to his pattern.
Good old Yellow Devil this boss used to be so hard for me as a kid now i can perfect him like you
Comparing your videos now to the videos you did for MM1 when you started, you were much quieter back then. It's nice to see that your voice quality in your videos got louder. You're like the reverse of Duo :D
Roahm: *kills big eye*
Me: *uses ice slasher*
EXCELLENT job on this. I've worked on this FOREVER.
I love your perfect run videos dude
Sheesh, I never really played the original Mega Man but thanks to this video I have the Yellow Devil's pattern memorized. Jump wait jump wait wait jump wait wait jump two wait wait wait jump wait wait wait jump wait.
And great to see more perfect runs! I like all of your videos but these are really where you're at your best!
12:20
It doesn't so much "reset onscreen hitboxes" as it does "fail to pause post-hit invincibility counters"
"MY BRAND!"
I died
I don't get it.
Chewbacon when
When Yellow Devil was defeated.
I love the comic book treated the time you get into the wily Castle, is a good reason why mega man uses the super arm to break through the wall, he couldn't find the door!
As for this I love how you pointed out the obvious thing about the yellow Devil it takes forever!
Amazing as always Roahm! And loved your response to my email. You are soooo right about Ninja Gaiden. Keep up the awesomeness dude! :) You got me starting on LP projects now. You are an inspiration bro!
Yay! I missed you and your megaman series' *tears of joy*
HUGE props to you, I hated the yellow devil and I can't imagine doing it on a perfect run myself.
12:27 SWEET SELECT-PAUSEY REVEEEEENGE!
Yes! This is the track i was looking for.
i am happy to see the perfect runs back :)
I can't seem to avoid his damn knees! oh I'm so spoiled with slide on megaman 3
Oh man such nostalgia watching you play megaman 1 again
Que ótima dica cara, parabéns!
Eu já estava desistindo de jogar kkkkkkkk
Valeu
Oh heck yeah the return of these!
@masterminded78 : I was referencing a silly, purposefully over-dramatic commercial for contact lenses.
I thought Mega Man 2, at least, had the Select-to-pause option, but without the glitch option. Anyway, glad to see you going through this proto-Skull Castle!
that's bullshit.. so now I have to quit and restart this whole level because I don't have a stupid M power
Yeaaaaah, honestly it is pretty questionable design, definitely a case of "first game syndrome." It's why most utility items in later games were essentially force fed to you for defeating certain bosses. There were exceptions here and there, but generally just items that weren't necessary to finish the game.
RoahmMythril I bought the collection on xbox one. And I'm not enjoying the first game at all 😂 I've beaten mega man 8 before and liked it. So that's why I got this. Anyways, now I've done all the work, and got back where I was. And I'm currently fighting that one eyed giant orange boss. Which is by far the hardest most annoying thing I've ever fought. Assuming you've played the other games, are they this difficult and questionable?
I'd say later games were better, but it all comes down to personal taste of course.
I totally agree. Also consider that, when playing it back in the 80s without being able to search in the internet, you high likely will be completely clueless what to do at all. Unless there's some mentioning in the manual which I don't own myself.
But seriously, the game doesn't really tell you very well about the magnet beam. And that item is easy to forget - especially if you do Elec Man before Guts Man which basically has a 50% chance to occur.
That's some grade A bullshit right there indeed brother. I just got to this part and thought the game glitched somehow.
Awesome intro, awesome video, awesome at all : )
Roahm do you know about the trick on both forms of the wily machine?
Also I honestly thought the fortress stages were never going to happen and this makes me very happy that you decided to start them
I'm trying to get Mega Man 1 completed but I just can't do the final stage, I don't have the reaction times for it. Getting old is a pain in the backside.
I really need to muster the motivation to keep trying, I'm determined to get that game finished.
You can do it brother! I just beat the game as well, although i used the pause glitch on the yellow devil, everything else was done by practising skill!! Don't know how old you are, im 26 and i did it haha.
I'm female, in my late thirties. It was a tough challenge even with almost thirty four years of gaming experience.
I managed to complete Mega Man 1 and 2 within hours of one another a few months ago, just trying to muster the will to play MM3 and the rest of the Legacy collections now
I remember how HARD he seemed the first time I ever got to him as a little kid! Watching you reminded me of what I used to say in my head (once I was used to fighting him) when I was jumping over his parts- "One, two, three, AND! One, two."
*The "AND!" was where you jump two parts... Good times.
I love the Wily 1 - 1 music, it has the build up and the terror in it. at least to me.
@metroidfannumber1 : No, it took me less than a week to do this. I just honestly didn't feel like doing the Wily stages until now. I just tend to find the Robot Master stages more interesting overall, but now I was in a mood to play more Mega Man.
I've been waiting for this... And kinda figured you'd have no problem with Yellow Devil. Though I did think you'd have more problems than you did with the Big Eyes and Foot Holders. Nice work indeed!
Oh and it's more of a completionist thing- I've already seen you kill all 6 masters ND/Blaster, so why not watch you finish what you started?
@hotrod506 : Basically I just felt like playing more Mega Man, and with no new Classic games on the horizon, it seemed like a good time to do this.
@RoahmMythril Nice intro man ^^ And wow I didnt realize how many projects you did thats a lot O.O
@pCrowles7 : At least all the official ones, yes. Probably not fangames unless they have easy ways for me to get to each fortress stage whenever I want, either saving between stages or a time trial mode or what have you. I'll be working on these as sort of "between projects" things, like do a major project, then a few fortress stages, then the next project, then more fortress stages, etc.
Very nice video! Explained it very well.
OH, the Wayback Machine! Thanks for clearing that up.
I like a lot how you start the video with song of time nostalgia
Ikr 😌😌😌
for the look of wily first fortress check the game concept art
@Fonzoide : Hey, to each their own, I have a lot of people that also like my blind runs, and sometimes I enjoy doing them ;) It basically just depends on what I feel like doing at the time. You have to keep in mind, I don't get paid for this, I do it purely for fun, so it's about doing what I enjoy as well ;)
@PrvXDevil : I'm not going to be doing BN4 for quite awhile. BN3 just took so bloody long, I want to have a more productive year or two before I get bogged down in another BN project.
@Kunosachiaka : Check the video info ;) I stopped using commercial music long ago due to a lot of my videos getting silenced for it. Thus on these vids, I list a "perfect world" outtake song, which is the one I would have used if I felt I could get away with it.
How do you get that gun you used to create platforms? I'm playing this stage and I don't have that. :(
You sir, are a megaman God.
Love from Sweden
Well, this should certainly keep both you and us busy for a while, and I'm looking forward to some of the multistage bosses. Will you be doing projects in between games?
After I watched this, I used that pause glitch to defeat the Yellow Devil (On the virtual console port btw). I guess you can call it cheating, but I watch your perfect runs before attempting the stage itself. You do good ^_^
Ahats that glitch cheat all about anyway and how do u ise it
Year late but after Elec Beam hits it, pause the game with Select (Start won't work), then hit Select again and wait about one-quarter of a second before doing it again. Your Elec Beam will stay on-screen and hit the enemy again. This can be repeated.
Same
against the yellowdevil, I thought you could use the pause trick when you hit him to do double damage. I may be thinking of something else but I could have sworn it was this fight. loved the entire episode roahm. great work
9:15 - I'm so with you there T~T I hate the sound of his saucer so much Dx
So nice to have so helpful glitches sometimes XD
Oh, yellow Devil is so tuff if only using the Mega Buster Dx
MM1 Wily Stage 1 Perfect Run? AWESOME! Good Job Roahm
I'd have liked it if you used a song that related to the Yellow Devil instead of just a remix of the actual stage's song, like "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" or something.
Still, great video, funny intro, and I'm glad to see more Perfect Runs from you.
@raocow : Haha, always figured I'd come back to these eventually ;) With all the Robot Master stages done, no new Classic Mega Man games on the horizon, and an urge to play more Mega Man, well, now seems as good a time as any to start work on these ;)
this brings me back man
Lmao! The second time you fought the yellow devil was AWESOME!
MAN did that say revenge. I knew the Thunder Beam was the weakness, but I did NOT know about the glitch.
How can you get the magent things I did get any when I was playing the game
The Magnet Beam is in Elec Man's stage, but you'll need either the Super Arm or Thunder Beam to get it. It's behind some destructible blocks.
9:10 And that's why I decided to do MY Perfect Runs' intro on the first take, then sneakily splice to the successful one once the level starts.
Sorry, I didn't know that. I haven't actually finished all your previous perfect run vids yet (have a ways to go actually), and I commented before finishing the vid and reading the description, so my mistake. XD Thanks for the reply.
couldn't you you the pause trick with the mega buster by shooting 2 or more shots and timing the pauses just right?
OMG your patern is so much easier, you evade 2 blocks in a row in the 4th jump, I used to evade them in 2 jumps and it was definetley MUCH HARDER!
what's the best weapon for this battle?
@Isaiah muniz : Because these videos are sort of a challenge run. The Perfect Run rules are that I am not allowed to take damage, and unless necessary, I am not allowed to use Robot Master weapons or utilities. Only the buster.
This was amazing man :D
'I don't know why everybody wanted to see this.' Revenge. Watching somebody else maul him absolutely is catharsis.
3:15 Brave Sir Roahm ran away. He bravely ran away, away!
love that intro roahm!
So Roahm what made you decide to do the fortress stages were your "managers" waving the dragon prod again?
At 4:25, if you dont have the G power, how could you pass this area ? or how do you quit the level to come back to the Elecman's level ?
thanx
*****
even so, if you beat elec man first, or just before guts man even, you're not neccesarily guaranteed to have picked up the magnet beam...
@Pyhankoski : I'm using the keyboard for this. I'm pretty used to it from playing games on my laptop during boring lecture classes ^_^;
@MaverickHunterXZA : I actually had that intro planned for awhile as soon as I knew I was going to do this ;)
Nice work! when are you doing megaman battle network 4? Keep up the good work!
Where do you get the magnet power up? I beat all the bosses and got access to the Dr Wily stage but don't have the much needed magnet power. :(
+Bryant Rabell The Magnet Beam is in Elec Man's stage. You need either Super Arm or Thunder Beam to get it, as it's behind some destructible blocks.
Thank you sir. Problem solved.
@iriis1 : CONTINUED 8. Goronade. Pretty hard to predict, and takes a lot of shots to finish off. 9. The shears in Hornet Man's stage, they're just so quick. 10. The Keeper, specifically the second version that has the electricity around the goal.
@ThatguycalledJoe : Yes, I don't have a limit anymore, that's what I meant, back in the days when I first started making videos, the max time limit on a video was 10 minutes.
fuuuck. made it all the way to the final room and don't have the m power up. how do I go back to the main. title without resetting ?
roahm i remember you saying you got bioshock or something in a video once but im guessing your not going to do a lp for it huh?
Great video! Watching this really helped me out, I was playing through this and had trouble remembering how to beat that pesky Yellow Devil. Is it me or is he a lot harder in this one than the other MM titles? I guess being able to slide under some of the blocks really helps..
You can't slide in Mega Man's 9 and 10 unless you're Proto Man though.
I actually have a question, do you post-commentate on these Perfect Runs, or do you commentate during your playthrough? Because I'd imagine for Perfect Runs you'd need as much concentration as possible. But if you commentate as you play, then major props to you!
Great video!
The Megaman Perfect runs have for now. Always fun to watch Roahm.
Okay, this is too amazing. Gotta share it with GeminiLaser, if that is okay wit you, Roahm.
How about a lists of the most feared stage enemy for each game (1-10)?
I'd be really interested to see what your picks are.
can anyone please tell me at 4:25, where will i find the ''M'' weapon? thanks
There's a link in the video info showing where to get the Magnet Beam, I did it in another video.
Thank u very much
You can freeze the big guys at the beginning then blast them. You can freeze the flames afterwards too
sometimes those green shits hit me when I land on them making me fall to my death
you are hitting too low on their sprite or jumping on them within a second of them spawning on the screen
Happens to me too
I miss your nice, calm voice. It's good to be back. :)
