- Guitarist Brian Jones, who had mastered many instruments during his time with the group, follows the main riff, as well as the melody, on sitar, creating a distinct sound that shot out of radios during the spring and summer of 1966.
- Hudba
He was a disturbed genius... but they all are. God rest his over talented soul.
Brian, rest in peace...🙏
Love you to pieces, Brian, you talented, stylish and handsome Golden Rock God.
Brian Jones and his sitar are the legend of this song ! 💜
Makes a very pleasant change to hear this song without the vocals. It also makes you focus even more on the sitar.
I agree , there is an opportunity to better hear how talented Brian plays the sitar .
@@lanas3150 I take it you've heard Lady Jane without vocals. The dulcimer is even clearer.
@@maurice8607 Yes , dulcimer is a diamond for Lady Jane and Brian performs perfectly !

Brian Jones , GREAT musician. Shame he died so young. My favourite songs of the Rolling Stones include Brian Jones. RIP Brian ❤
Thanks for the comment, Barbara❣Brian Jones Forever💕
Brain was the Best❤
Brian deserves massive recognition for His Contribution to Music 🎶 and for me The Best Music The Rolling Stones ever made .
Absolutely correct.
This is Brian Jones's band regardless!!! RIP Brian Jones ♥️
I agree! RIP Brian🙏❤
Yes it was, and is !!! He started the band.! At the time, he was the only one that could play an instrument !! And he got pushed out slowly, and it affected him so much. I think what caused his death.. drowning, and he was so much in pain and depressed, he drank , drugs, and I'm sure he was broken from what the others did to him.. it will always be because if Brian, there is the Rolling Stones...thats my opinion !!!!!
@@fredajohnson3963 With all due respect to Mick Taylor, who is an excellent guitarist, the band was never the same after Keefer and Mick stole it. Other than Gimme Shelter the material from the so called "Greatest Rock Band In The Wolrd" doesn't measure up to me. To go from things like Ruby Tuesday and Paint it Black to formula rock tunes like Honktonk Woman is a pretty extreme drop in songwriting quality.
First time I heard this song my life was never the same.
As I always say: "No Brian Jones, no Rolling Stones. Know Brian Jones, know the Rolling Stones".
Happy birthday Brian Jones🎉

Great imagery to go with this song! Brian really nailed it on the sitar, didn’t he? Can’t imagine this song without it… I love the extended version of this! The stones should’ve left it on the album like that…

Not only did Brian’s sitar make this song but his whole musicianship made the album Aftermath a hit. Mick and Keith’s songs would have been mediocre and boring without Brian.
So true!
Brian's lead in hooks made and cemented the early Stone's legacy for all time. Brian you left us much too soon and young. RIP.
Pure talent man he made this song sound so good.
Great musicianship makes great songs truly great. But great musicianship can't make a bad song great.

I did a Power Point presentation in college about 60s music and used an excerpt of Jones' sitar on Paint in Black. It's really that hook that makes the song memorable.
Thank you for your comment!
The only thing I would say is does Brian Sitar line simply follow the melody or vise versa .If its the later then M&K have some explaining to do

Jones completed dozens of Jagger/Richard's song sketches and received no credit. In some instances he collaborated directly with Keith, as on "Ruby Tuesday", only to have Mick snatch the co-credit.
Where have you read that nonsense? Brian did not complete sketches. He helped developing the songs TOGETHER with the other members. You make it sound like the guy took over the entire song and rewrote them. Another Jones-fanboy talking out of his ass.
The thieving Gutter Twins..😡🤬
BrianJonesこそRollingStonesの象徴でした。彼のことを詳しく知る前に亡くなってしまったのは本当に残念です。

Oh, what a fab video you've put together.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.!!
Apparently, it was Brian who had the initial tune for Paint It Black with Bil Wyman contributing. So, Brian should've had 50% credit and royalties with Bill 25% and Mr Jagger and Mr Richards sharing 25 %. If fact, Brian should've received far more credits on Mick Jagger and Keith Richards songs.
Nonsense and a totally distorted telling of the real story. Mick and Keith wrote the song. In the studio, they all helped arranging it. That’s far off you claim that Jones and Wyman wrote it.
Please read Bill Wyman's book Stone Alone. He explains it there. Apparently, Brian had the initial tune on his sittar will Bill contributing along with Charlie Watts. Mick and Keith wrote and the rest of the song and lyrics (I agree there), but the initial tune came from Brian.
👍👍✌️💙🎵🌏
I think about the flute in Ruby Tuesday too, my god he put the flavour, juice in Rolling Stones
Brian is a wizard of sound.

So what does Paint it Black sound like now if no one is playing the sitar on it? Is there anywhere where I can hear a Brian Jones-less Paint it Black?
Joannaa, great point! I've well over 60, and would love to hear a 'sitar-less' version,if not, just for posterity!
Like other songs, it is Brian's sitar that makes this special. Interesting idea, though.
That would sound as empty as having a Jones-less "No Expectations", "The Last Time", or "Under My Thumb". In each of those songs, Brian's lead instrumentation is on par or better than the lead vocal itself.

Wow! This performance was mind-blowing!!!
No Jones no Stones:) unfortinally not true. Anidote for this The Rolling Jones' for his new band hypathetially.
Brian was a savant with musical instruments. But when Jagger and Richards started writing all the songs, his contributions were marginalized and he just got more and more wasted. Shame.
Glyn Johns: (Andrew Oldham pushing Mick and Keith into songwriting) really caused Brian to be left behind. Until that time Brian was pretty much the group's spokesman and had some very good musical ideas. A lot of Stones records were built of riffs, and Brian invariably played those riffs. Then Mick and Keith were encouraegd to write and sell their songs and the whole balance of power shifted to them. They and Andrew took over directing the band.
@@bootsybero the sad truth is that the songs they wrote in the 60s were outstanding. It was the right move. A shame that it left Brian out in the cold.
