    Great looking car - it looks brand new, even though a2015. That is what's great about GTI - their styling is mostly timeless, unlike all the other Japanese hatchbacks out there which look ridiculous by the time the warranty has expired.

    after I put in a downpipe my aftermarket exhaust catback started being too loud too.. I just went back to stock catback with a downpipe - no drone, and sounded decent

  • @dy8863
    @dy8863 Před 3 lety +2

    Another thing to consider is that aftermarket cat backs only provides marginal gains, if any. Replace the downpipe first which will produce more power (especially with tune) and will change the sound of the exhaust without being too loud.

    Modded nearly every car I owned. Bought a 2018 GTI last October. Leaving it stock. Now that I'm 34 I view cars a little differently. I have probably would have saved over $100k if I had kept the same car the last 15 years. So I will be doing that with the GTI. For the price I paid, it's a bargain in style, practicality, and performance. I want it to last 200k+ miles.

    Aftermarket Intake is not a must unless u go to stage3 upwards with bigger turbo then u can see the difference
    The combination btw stock catback and aftermarket catless downpipe will give the best sweet sound for me but some cut the stock resonator out to be more loud and fart

  • @timothyfogarty9007
    @timothyfogarty9007 Před 4 lety

    I regret the borla exhaust too. I put the stock exhaust back on. I’m pretty reluctant to try another exhaust again. I probably lowered my car 3x but now I have it where I want it. I’m keeping my stock wheels on, I’m not feeling any of the aftermarket wheels even though some from rotiform and Rohanna are nice. I don’t entirely regret the apr intake, but knowing what I know now I’d go a different route. Modding can be difficult because there is regret and wonder what could be different. Still fun though.

  • @bigmacdaddy1234
    @bigmacdaddy1234 Před 4 lety +7

    Great video. And you are correct on all of your points. Most of the time aftermarket intakes do nothing but empty your wallet and do not increase performance. Aftermarket exhausts usually do have a droning effect which ruins the car ride and sounds very annoying too. As for the 19 inch wheels, they are too big for your car and do not make the car drive better, if anything they make it drive worse. Your car would look and drive much better with 17's with a taller sidewall tire, stock exhaust and stock intake. Be wary about lowering your future car as that can also create its own set of problems too. Takeaway lesson here is that most mods ruin what used to be a good car.

    • @vroomgc
      @vroomgc Před 4 lety +1

      I disagree on the 17's unless your looking for comfort only but for cornering and overall ride the 18's are the best bet for the gti. I have 19's which are good for cornering but not a good choice for comfort and are a bit heavier too.

    • @bigmacdaddy1234
      @bigmacdaddy1234 Před 4 lety +2

      @@vroomgc Actually, it's not a matter of opinion, it's a fact. 17's are better for the GTI in every category. They will provide more comfort, better cornering, superior load rating and a better overall ride. Larger wheels are heavier, reduce performance and erode fuel economy. These are the facts, whether you agree or not.

    Dont air intakes always make the performance worse without a tune?

    • @Osprey1994
      @Osprey1994 Před 3 lety

      No that's not what he's talking about. Airflow isn't limited by the tune it's limited by physics. The APR intake just cannot flow as much air as it should for the price. You can flow more air with an aftermarket turbo inlet pipe, a silicone pipe from say VWR, and the stock airbox but with a AFE drop in filter for around 200-228 USD.

    and please what is exact size of you tires?

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport Před 4 lety

      ... For me in my 04 gti, it depends on the (type of) snow and the driver. I survived Denver and dayton winters for 15 years on various all seasons (Michelin mxm4, 2x PS AS3). If you have deep snow, slushy snow, frequent ice, dedicated winters are beneficial. Frankly, the ESP is good enough that all weather tires like Nokia wrg4 will get you anywhere you need to be; just don't overdrive the tire (not invisible) and don't be stupid.

    Am I missing something here? A loud exhaust is cool, sometimes, except when you speed on local roads pass a cop and he knows exactly which car it was because your exhaust is stupid loud. That's one reason why the active exhausts with valves, etc. are cool.

    My only mod regret is the steering wheel cover that a lot of other people have gotten. I couldn't get it on the wheel as it was mis-cut and it ended up ripping. What a waste of money, which sucks because the steering wheel is so soft and skinny.

    Hey quick question I live in the same state and have the same exhaust setup. In NH does the borla cat and a aftermarket downpipe pass emissions and inspection?

    • @NewEnglandPete
      @NewEnglandPete  Před 4 lety

      Most VW dealers pass this kind of stuff... since they see it all the time. So it should pass in NH if you go to one of the dealers.

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport Před 4 lety +1

      As long as cats, O2 sensors are in place and no cell, you should be good. Can't say if they measure dBs. If all emissions equipment is there, you have nothing to worry about. i.e. Don't go catless...

    I went all IE (Integrated Engineering) on mine. I have a 2013 MK6 GTI with DSG
    - Intake
    - Intake Manifold (Awesome Manifold, has built in bungs for Meth Injection that I use)
    - Intercooler in stock location (also Forge Twintercooler FMIC)
    - Downpipe (Stock Cat-Back)
    - DSG Tune
    - K04 Turbo Kit
    - K04 Tune
    Also
    - NeuSpeed Hi-Flo Charge Pipes
    - GoFastBits DV+ on Stock Diverter Valve
    - Red Audi R8 Coils (lol, I had one OEM go bad and just went with those)
    - Koni Yellow Shocks/Struts
    - H&R Sport Springs and H&R 28/24mm Sway Bars
    - 034 Density-Line Rear Upper Control Arms, Density-Line Rear Toe Links, Billet Dogbone Mount, Stainless Subframe Locking Collar Kit, Front/Rear Sway bar End Links, Billet Aluminum Upper/Lower Dogbone Mount insert, Density-Line Motor/Trans Mounts
    - SuperPro Supaloy Front Control Arms and Complete Rear Poly Suspension Bushings
    - VW/Audi TT-RS Front Upper Strut Mounts/Bearings
    - Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 225/40ZR18's. Amazing tires.
    Have yet to dyno it but according to IE, I should be around 350-Hp/350-Tq at the wheels. (IE Says they made 332-Hp/325-Tq without intake manfiold, and minus Charge Pipes)
    I cant believe how planted the car is now after all the suspension mods, it is amazing how fast I can take some corners.
