Keeping the puppy is kinda a spin on Breeders choice , the breeder can keep one puppy which ever they want from a litter of puppies set to be adopted.
Spots was the boy’s dog so in a sense it’s the same idea.
And he has a puppy to remind him of Spots now.
Why do we have hands? There are many reasons:
Pat the puppies.
Hold the puppies.
Cherish the puppies.
Forfeit all mortal possessions to the puppies.

1:11 - I was so heart-broken, I thought Spots died and only the mother and the pups remained alone there, but my happiness went up like a rocket when I saw one more bowl at the end and then Spots came! :D
The music and the fact that spots in that scene had a robot eye made me think this was all a trick

I absolutely bursted in tears thinking about my old dog that passed years ago (due to old age) because I raised him when he was a 6 month pup and from the age of 12. That bond. Happy the little fellas in the scenes were looked after and taken care of (and vice versa). Warm scenes.
Same my dog was only 2 years old when I rescued her she died at age 11 due to a tumor and old age

It would've been cool to have a version of the movie where it did translate the scenes that didn't have the translator, but I do like that they went with not having certain scenes translated. Gives off a kind of stranger in a foreign land feel. You're left to your own interpretation of what they are saying relying on the situation, the body language, and the facial expressions. I like when films do that, instead of holding your hand all throughout the film like most modern films nowadays to where its more "Tell, don't show" Its a breath of fresh air if you ask me.
Seeing an extra bowl gave me massive relief. Spots is an awesome character and I'm glad he survived.
Especially since he was voiced by the incredible Leiv Schreiber who also played characters like Sabertooth in X-Men Origins, Storm King in the My Little Pony Movie (2017) and Kingpin in Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse

Honestly, I was kinda disturbed by the puppies making baby sounds. Despite the obvious fact the dogs in this movie are clearly talking I felt the pups making baby noises was too uncanny.
Well that's just a joke they're making we're all dog sounds have been translated into human sounds like it's just something he would do because he's a sucker for the details like that in his movies

@@Bandersnatch41 I kept thinking that the dogs were actually talking or the humans could just straight up understand them, or at least Atari could. There were too many incidents in the movie that just seemed that way. Like when Rex stopped Atari from leaving to tell him Spots wasn't dead. Or when Spots, Chief, and Atari were in the sewer. When the Black Owl told them the plan. When Spots resigned his duties to Chief and Atari accepted. Hell, even Chief's new dog tag has his actual name on it! How could Atari know what his actual name is if he can't understand what the dogs are saying?! It's all just too coincidental.
