I was in Italy when l'Italiano came out and then in Israel when this came out - the song seemed to follow me on my travels! Michael Jackson's Billy Jean was the other song that seemed to follow me everywhere in different countries.
I believe that this was originally a Russian folk song, can anybody confirm and/or provide the name of the artist, year of recording, etc?? This song was big when I was living in Israel 1985-1994.
It's a cover from an original italian song: "L'Italiano", interpreted by Toto Cutugno in the far 1983. You can find it in YT. Please, have a look at: it.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%27italiano/Sar%C3%A0 There it is cited also Doron Mazar's Ani Hozer HaBayta as a foregin cover song.
