have i mentioned how much i love them?
the last few episodes have ruined me so i thought an angst edit seemed fitting :)
this took me half my lifetime to make. I know the start is a bit slow and there's a few mistakes but I wasn't rendering it again for 2 more hours. It's a simpler style than my usual edits, I was focusing more on the parallels between anne's previous lovers against ann, but yeah I hope you all still enjoy it!

Not gonna lie, the only reason I started watching was for the lesbians, but ended up staying for the amazing acting/chemistry and dialogue. Amazing.
To know that this was a real Woman, existing in such an unforgiving Era, while living as authentic a Life as she was able, leaves me in total awe of her!
oh my god the juxtaposition of mariana saying she cared what people thought of anne, yet still claims she loves anne more than ann walker... the immediate cut to ann walker saying she doesn't care what others think of anne... brilliant. made me laugh but tugged so hard at my heartstrings

I did some research and found out that Ann Walker struggled with her mental health for a very long time and was admitted to an asylum 3 years after Anne Lister died during their travels together after 6 years of marriage. Ann did eventually leave the asylum, however. I also found out their marriage wasn't happy due to her mental health issues, as well as Anne Lister's commanding personality and control over Ann Walker's fortune. It was a very different, difficult era. When we see them happy on Gentleman Jack, we see them at their best.
mariana used ‘i love you’ as an excuse to say hurtful things :(, “im embarrassed to be seen w u but i endure it because i love u’ like, honey, no. ann loves anne for who she is, her full self, not DESPITE what anne is or isnt, it doesnt depend on other peoples views but only on herself and her feelings, and the way she always emphasises the ‘you’ as if theres no way she could ever have or will love anyone else🥺 absolutely magnificent actresses

Keep coming back to this. I’m working on a historical novel at the moment (set early 1900s) with a lesbian protagonist (her girlfriend is bi) and this video really inspires me and makes me feel like I have a duty to the gay community to finish the novel (I’ve been working on it on and off for about 9 years).
