This is the real Jeff Curnow and thanks for the kind words! Wish I had more to post but that's the extent of my video library for the EBQ. No internet in those days so video taping was few and far between. Glad you liked the clips. All the best, Jeff

I am hoping this is the real Jeff Curnow posting these videos. If you have any more, please post as many as you can. I was in college when the Empire Brass had this roster of musicians. Probably the best version of this group. I have met Sam a few times over the years when I played tuba for a living. Just an incredible musician. I was able to get down to Philly to see the orchestra last year and you sounded fantastic. Please post whatever gems you have. Listening to you guys always made me push myself in the practice room.

what horn is Pilafian using here? Beautiful sound.

He is playing a Meinl Weston 37. It's also called a Bill Bell model. Meinl started reporducing them a few years back but they didn't sell too many so they took them out of production.

TUBAGUYBRS Sweet! When I commented here I was a prospective buyer of an MW37 and knew that Pilafian was a fan of the horn but was not completely sure if that was what he's playing here as I had very few pictures to go off of. As I comment here today, I am the happy owner of an MW37.

flytrappedinajar1 Congrats on the new horn. When Meinl Weston reintroduced the 37 back in the early 90s, I knew one of their US representatives and I was able to play on the one that they made for Sam before it went to him. It was a great all around horn. Hope you enjoy yours.

Allright, so why did Marty leave Canadian? As I remember, that was the Empire/Canadian horn switch with Dave O.

Scott Hartman: Juilliard grad. plays the Trombone in this clip.

Scott Hartman is a really a nice man and is a really cool guy. Met him in December 1990 in Aiken, SC at a concert. As a Trombonist and Tuba player, it thrilled me. We wrote a few letters, then I died in a Car Accident 6 months later.
While a patient in rehab., Scott Hartman called me at HealthSouth Rehab. Hospital Columbia, SC to encourage me. That moment changed my life, and gave me strength to continue relearning how to use my body again to survive.
Scott's 5-minute call from Massachusetts changed my life and gave me something to live for. Thank you, Scott Hartman. You are a Hero of mine.
