Can You Beat Inscryption Without Taking Damageish?
Vložit

- Maybe if I beat Inscryption without taking damage, Magnificus will put me in his deck!
Rules:
- Beat all 3 Acts of Inscryption without the scale tipping towards the left side (the middle and to the right side are okay even if I get hit)
- If I ever break the first rule I have to start the entire game over on a new file. With the exception that I can make a checkpoint at the start of Act 3
- No going back to previous saves or surrendering to avoid losing
- Due to a certain exploit in Act 2, I'll be using a different strategy for every fight in that Act after the training dummy is available
- There are 2 scripted losses so those don't count
- No glitches

Imagine losing your challenge run because someone shoots you IRL
I'm going to try to avoid losing future challenges to getting shot IRL
Aw hell nah facts tho

"I like to stop around 65-70" a very good damage range
A very nice damage range :)
But 69 is perfect, @@BarelyAlec
The semantics are all correct! A scale system means that when he "deals" damage to you its actually more akin to him healing health. Shared health pool mechanics are neat
Yeah, the scale system is really interesting!
Actually CRIED with laughter at the "NOW I took damage." at the end 🤣
*Yeah actually that video is a **_quick time event_** and you're actually supposed to-*
It was totally worth taking damage by getting shot if it was entertaining!
hell, you didn't even take damage there
luke is the one who gets shot and not his recording software
though you can argue that it would count as damage when luke hits the data with a hammer since the camera glitches out when that happens, it's closer to the contents of the recording being damaged and not the recording software
and since you play as luke's recording software, you didnt lose
@@BarelyAlec
@@gudmansal3468well technically it's luke playing the game so if you were to take damage it would be luke taking damage

Naw to low true 400
Turns out that against Magnificus,
the only way to win is not to play.
😌
Just like Game Theory told us
I've actually gotten over 50 damage against him before without taking a single point. It is possible, but it probably requires astronomical luck and it's just way easier to wait for the sequence to end.
Yeah I got him down like ten hp every turn
“The only winning move is not to plaaaaaay” the song of trolls (idk its name)
I think the reason the magic eye doesn't spawn until you lose after the first run is because of the scene where you use the camera from the ground, which wouldn't work if you already have the film.
I actually won a few runs before losing and unlocking the eye, so Magnificus actually appeared to give me the hint to use the dagger (I assume it counts the number of runs since you got the dagger) even though that didn't work until just before he gave me the hint
I remember being so annoyed at the hint since he can give it to you without having his eye as an option. I think it's about 6 runs in where he starts to do that
The card drawing system is actually the same in all acts, it tries to give you a free card, a few random ones, and then the last one is meant to be a card that is playable this turn, unless you already have one in your hand. (which is why draugr was valid) Bones are dependent on how many free brittle cards you have (skeletons), and iirc energy is 1-2 energy cost cards. I think mox doesn't care about the color, as long as the card is a gem, but I could be wrong about that. Blood gives you a card with a cost equal to or less than the number of free cards you have in your hand, so a hand starting with 3 free cards would mean you could play a bear. (since the starting draw could only ever draw 3 squirrels, urayuli will never be valid)
Interesting! Energy cards never count as "starter cards" as far as I can tell. At least the cheap ones don't, even if it's a 1 energy card. I didn't test mox cards at all since the magic deck isn't very useful for this challenge
@@BarelyAlec a bit late but mox cards honestly are never useful due to it’s annoying rng aspect of praying to god you get the mox you need
@@ettolrahC1 Yeah, mox cards are definitely my least favorite gimick
@@BarelyAlec mox cards more like mid cards am I right (I am a licensed comedian if you do not laugh I will sue you)

it is possible to deal enough damage to Leshy during the first scripted loss, but if you do, it will just summon more bears
Interesting!
The speedrun I watched recently actually didn’t have to deal with that, even though they cheesed the fight, so I’m not sure this is true, atleast if I’m recalling correctly
@@bensonfamily6302 Yeah, in the version I saw back when the game was taking off, you just get to advance if you beat Grizzly Rush.
I'm pretty sure you can still pass the phase where it's "too fast too soon"
Yeah, if you know it's coming up it's not too hard to beat with the proper cards and items!
I believe that the Speedruns for the game don't take the manditory losses, but I also think the speedrun ends after the Moon
@@amateurishauthor2202 They take the mandatory candle tutorial loss from what I've seen since you don't even have to play a card to lose quickly. After that, they beat the bosses even with the "too fast too soon" mechanic like I did
@@BarelyAlec Ah okay, I wasn't sure entirely but wanted to bring it up that it might be possible to win there, but it might not be possible in actuallity
I’ve always known that you can beat the scripted losses, but I never knew Leshy’s eyes stayed red. You learn something new every day!
Yeah, it's a pretty neat touch!
@@BarelyAlecIt really makes it look like Leshy is mad at you for going against what he thought should have been an unsurvivable attack.

Glad you were there for the streams!
speedrunner who's only just started the video here: my first thoughts are with the start of act 3, there's a few fights you need to take damage on round one. I'm thinking that will be a major roadblock. after that it should be easy. act 1 would be tough judging from the fact you would have to do moon% two times but my guess is that it isn't possible without going below 5hp at all
edit: watched it all now
the way you played act 1 was very interesting and impressive. act 3 was played very smart, I never even thought about going up first, I had just thought that the first few fights always went down in eastern botopia. congratulations, you have earned a sub
You were spot on! The start of Act 3 sucks but then gets easy as I'm sure a speedrunner would know since I think speedruns of Act 3 use a similar route with Lonely Wizbot. Act 1 is tough with getting to the moon twice too
@@BarelyAlec act 1 was insanely impressive. I've never attempted moon% as I run only any% but I've heard how tough it is, thinking about doing it twice in a row is crazy. also going up in eastern botopia is something I never considered. I'm very impressed by the way you handled mental and play. also that close call at the end was quite nerve racking congratulations!
@@MizhiBirb Thanks, I'm glad I could impress a speedrunner of the game! All the acts were fun to figure out and Act 3 kept me wondering if I really understood it for a while

The mechanic he is always talking about just makes it so you can always play a card on your first turn, which is really useful for Kaycee's mod when choosing the goat deck

Glad you like them! There's more to come!
Wow finally 😂😂 I was waiting for this my whole life so awesome video and inscription is my favorite game :)
It's such an amazing game!
Glad I'm getting recommended this one year later.
It randomly got picked up by the algorithm again
It's not really universal in card games that your deck will be more consistent the less cards you have. It works well in this one since it doesn't have cards that need to be in the deck to work, but not in every card game.
It's just that less cards increases your chances of drawing specific cards.
So in games where you can add more and more cards that do similar things, while having cards in your deck that you absolutely need to not draw because they only function from, or function best in the deck, adding more cards (that you want to draw) can actually increase a deck's consistency by increasing the proportion of cards that you want to draw vs cards that you don't.
True, like running garnets in yugioh can be better in 60 card decks so you don't draw them as much. Generally, running less cards is a good thing though. Like how if you could run 5 cards in yugioh then you'd always open with exodia
@@gregoryford2532 That's a good point about exchanging consistency for increased power!
best advice i have for anyone wanting to do this run themselves: in Act 3, a sigil combo of Guardian, Sentry, Touch of Death is virtually unbeatable by anything P03 throws at you. the Sentry will always immediately move into place whenever P03 summons something, trigger Sentry to attack it immediately, and always be guaranteed to 1-shot it (except Shield Bots) due to Touch of Death. this also works against Bounty Hunters, and it doesnt matter how much health it has, as long as it doesnt have Nanoshield (which i dont remember if they even can have). this combo will essentially make it almost impossible for P03 to ever do damage to you once you get it. and if you put Unkillable in this combo as well, you can just resummon the card whenever it dies. I suggest putting this combo on a Sentry Drone, as it is only 1 energy. You can _also_ Gemify on your Sentry and it will make your Sentry be summoned for free as well (when you have blue gems).
some other combos i suggest playing around with:
1. Touch of Death and Bifurcated Strike on Snipers.
2. Burrower, Sharp Quills, and/or Nano Armor on Leap Bots.
3. Brittle Latch or Nano Shield Latch on cards with 1 HP and 1 cost, optionally also Gemify to make this card free, and dont give them Nano Shield. For these 2, there's really a lot of potential Sigils in various combos you could substitute with Brittle/Shield latch, these two are deceptively quite strong (especially Brittle Latch).
Those are cool combos! The reason I didn't go with any specific broken combo like that was because it would require getting lucky with the sigils offered. I think you can exit to the menu to reroll the offered sigils but I banned that in my personal run
@@BarelyAlec it can be difficult, yeah. what you do in the video definitely seems like it would be a lot more consistent, but i personally dont have a problem with making my deck in act 3 a lot larger than the other 2 acts, especially since you're offered Leap and Energy Bots pretty frequently. i also particularly like coming up with good sigil combos in Act 3, breaking the game as much as possible really seems like what Act 3 is really about in terms of gameplay.
something that also seems like it would be pretty good but i havent tried yet for Act 3 is Conduits, with the slightly larger board, the ability to make Vessels act as Conduits and Batteries, and the ability to reduce costs on cards with Gemification, it might be more practical than in Act 2 to use them.
there's also an Act 3 Kaycee's Mod, uh, mod, that supposedly makes Conduits better ontop of Act 3's changes, but i have yet to play that mod as well.
@@Templarfreak I get what you mean. It's a lot of fun to come up with crazy combos. In my first playthrough, I chose to make an unkillable Detonator over an instant win card like I did in this challenge since it was fun to mess around with.
I also need to try mods in this game some time
@@BarelyAlec oh i remembered, Brittle Latch actually works on Starvation as well, meaning its one of the only ways in the entire game you can kill Starvation, and its also a very effective way of doing it (unlike Sharp Quills)

interesting fact about the first scripted loss: since it's meant to unlock the candles, it's the only fight in the game where if you somehow get past the bears, leshy will summon more bears
Yeah, there's no winning this one
@@BarelyAlec I actually messed with file editing, and the only way to get past the bears is to kill one, and on the same turn do damage to the lane the first one died it to tip the scales enough. Given that the rule was that you couldn't let the scale tip left, you wouldn't have lost to Magnificus. He uses life totals in his fight, not a scale.
Yeah, that was initial plan for that fight but I like timing it out more since it's funnier and less semantic
I remember when I beat the first run in one try, it feels very good
Yeah, it's cool that you can beat the first run!
37:00
A Very broken combo on this boss is make his first turn summon leap bots everytime a card dies, then on the second phase make it so the cards take 1 damage every single time a card die
if you do this correctly, sacrificing one single leap bot, will trigger on death of everthing, then they will respawn, and die, respawn and die, after like 6 or 7 times of the same loop, p03 will get enough of this and disable the first rule you did.
I didn't know the game would be ready to stop that loop lol. That's cool!
I swear to god my dyslexic ass thought the title was can you beat inscryption without taking Bangladesh and I was like yeah probably
That would have been too easy for me personally
Unless they patched its entirely possible to skip the bears with scissors. There is a guy who actually beat act 1 first try with this.
That's what I did for the bears summoned during bosses. The candle tutorial bears infinitely respawn and prevent you from attacking by spawning during attacks. You can't get scissors before fighting them too
