  • My #surlykrampus needed some new tires and considering the amount of gravel and pavement riding I do on this bike the #surlyextraterrestrial tires looked like a great choice.
    I didn’t expect them to be the coolest looking tires Ive ever owned.

    Thank you for your review. I like the tires but I didn't know much about them. You just made it so much easier for me to make up my mind. I think they are going to look awesome on my Fazzary cascade peak. Thank you.

    Been running the Extraterrestrials on my Soma Juice for the past 3 years, and on my third set now. I'm about to need another one cause the rear is getting really worn down. Tires see lots of urban commuting in Tokyo every day, all year long and some gravel roads by the river when it's a nice day outside. Stopped by cause I wanted to see what the slate looked like mounted up. Been guilty of running these for weeks at a time sometimes on less than 10 psi (tubeless of course) cause I haven't always got the time to bust out the pump, lol. Ran dry without sealant for who knows how long on one set too. They do give a lot of support and are a great tire.
    Thanks for the video! Cheers from Tokyo!

    Nice... It's funny, I was waffling between the Ogre, and the Krampus... I ultimately chose krampus because I wanted front sus, and you cannot do that on the Ogre... the stock Dirt Wizards are a beast of a tire, and are definitely slow, and noisy... I do mostly gravel, and some pavement, and a wee bit of trail - so I think now after seeing another krampus being held up by the ET's I'll give them a try when these wizards are worn beyond use!

    These or the maxxis hookworm?

  • @joshuabriones-yap3633

    Hi Mate, do you still have this installed? Would you have the genuine width of they ET tires by any chance? Is it a true 64mm tire width?

    Wait, isn't 29x 2.5 the maximum recommended size for this frame? Why would you say you wouldn't go any smaller? Seems like there would be a size margin that would function well under the maximum size.

      Nevermind, I thought you were on an Ogre. Great video!

      Yep Krampus can fit up to a 3” tire. Thanks for watching!

    Does the 1kg each weight bothers you much? vs other mtb tyres you used on road.

    • @WildOutdoorLiving
      @WildOutdoorLiving  Před 3 lety

      Not particularly. The tread pattern makes this tire the smoothest and fastest rolling of any tire I have had in this size. There are some lighter and faster slicks on the market but they don’t tend to be as durable.

    How would you compare them to Maxxis DTH tires? Especially on the road. Many thanks.

    • @WildOutdoorLiving
      @WildOutdoorLiving  Před 2 lety

      I can’t speak to the ride as Ive never ridden the DTH. The DTH does not come in 29, and in 26 is only as wide as a 2.3. The DTH also isn’t a tubeless tire so right off the bat I can see some major differences. Beyond that I would have to ride them.

      @@WildOutdoorLiving Many thanks. I did get a pair of Surley E.T.'s and they are a bit heavier and the don't roll quite as well as the DTH. Those DTH roll like street bike tires. BMX'ers love them. Very nice if your mostly on the road/hard pack, fair in the softer stuff. DTH are thin too, fairly easy to get a flat. So I put Mr. Tuffy liners on with the E.T.'s. Do you think the goop in tubeless ends up weighing as much as liners? Best.

    How have these held up? Any road use?

    • @WildOutdoorLiving

      Plenty of road use while commuting. Nice and quiet and smooth rolling. I don’t have enough miles to comment on durability yet as Ive been riding my fatbike through the winter the last several months.
