the issue with the braking at the line test is the expectation of braking. I know that with lux at the wheel there will be an expectation of braking somewhere but a set line makes it too impractical
Speed is key. Twice the speed = 4x the energy, Twice the mass = twice the energy. Reaction time's going to take longer distance with increased speed as well obviously. In a collision pedestrian survivability is around 80% at 40kmh (25mph) and 50% at 60kmh (37mph). I would still like higher speeds at motorways/country roads where there are no intersection, but in town 60kmh tops is fine
yes but the pedestrian survivability chance is way lower if you are been hit by a car like a tesla since its weight is far higher than the average car.
@@samtomlinson4518 No, weight doesn't matter at that point the shape of the vehicle is what matters (dispersion of energy). So much energy coming towards you anyway whether it's a 1500kg car or 2000kg car

Teslas are notoriously easy to curb as the rims come further out compared to the tire wall than most cars. Couple that with street parking in London where you basically have to touch the curb because the streets are so narrow and that's what you get

FYI in the time it takes for you to stop from 70mph to 0mph, if you were going 100mph you'd only slow doen to 70mph. There is virtually no chance of survival if you hit someone at 60-70mph. So stick to your speed limits, slow if there's danger or weather/road conditions change!
The system works by sending sonar waves, which when reflected of the underside of the car will allow the Tesla to tell that a car is ahead of it, it didn't work because there is no underside of the vehicle and cardboard doesn't reflect sonar waves.
Tesla uses mostly cameras alongside with sonar. While other are going for Lidar which is better yet more expensive
what about detecting pedestrians then and stopping how would that work ?

It is actual far from that what you stated. The new models of tesla are only equiped with ultrasonic and camera sensors. Meanwhile other Car companys use a variety of sensors (lidar and/or radar, camera, ultrasonic) for redundancy and additional safety. However, that approach is much more expensive. Any new car nowadays is equiped with an ultrasonic sensor (sonar) but it is only used for low range targets and low speeds (while parking for example).

i guess the 2nd challenge (with cardboard car coming from the side) didn't work because it isn't a 3D object and since it was coming from the side it should theoretically see a 3rd dimension

@@szprync2000 Simply because Tesla's technology isn't nearly where it should be - the marketing has led everyone to believe that, whereas market experts and people with genuine knowledge of automated vehicles are of the opposite opinion. I had the privilege of speaking with a market leading expert on autonomous vehicles, and he is also of the opinion that Tesla's AI are dangerous due to the disparity between the reality of the technology, and the public perception.

Tesla is safer than Volvo their is a video comparing the two exactly like this video but imo these videos are inaccurate since the cardboard may not fool the cars. The best test would be using real cars and remotely controlling the cars like they do in safety tests.
Also most EV's have a front trunk which absorbs more impact and can't send an engine toward you. They also have regenerative braking which brakes using the electric motor(to act as a generator) so that is useful if some how your normal brakes aren't working. Teslas have airbags all over the car and in certain situations try to avoid cars by swerving around them. It also keeps you in your lane if you start drifting off the road. All safety features for the tesla are free because they aim to be as safe as possible. A lot of car manufacturers make you pay for safety features.

The thing about a car that stops when you're about to hit something is you can't hit something on purpose. Meaning if someone doesn't want you to go anywhere they can just stand in front of your car and you can do nothing. Makes it dangerous if you're under attack

From what i can tell Tesla's are not good when it comes to small objects or trying to stop at very high speeds which for that is understandable cuz letting the car to stop itself at 110kmh is impossible (for now)
