In child development 'ma' or 'mm' is one of the first vocalisations that an infant produces. It comes from the child sucking at the breast. In some languages the mm sound is associated with food, and of course mammary.

@TK Rage mama, mater, and all the others beginning with 'ma' actually all existed long before the placement of English language into the Indo-European Language Tree. The English length took it *from* any of the antecedent languages.

This is incredible! I’m only 1/8 Maori, but I feel so proud to have you as part of my ancestry. Perfect harmony, perfect tempo, clear diction, a wonderful rendition. And such handsome people. Love you all. Kia Ora!

U3A Nelson . Doesn't matter how much Maori blood you have. You are still Maori through and through

!! I think I’m 1/8 too (my great grandfather was 100% so then yeah I think I’m 1/8). I feel exactly the same :)) I just wish I knew any Māori people anywhere near where I lived (in the US) because I feel like I really love the culture and it really connects w/me and I just wish I could like reconnect w/my roots, plus I feel the most intense imposter syndrome ever :/ maybe someday I’ll visit New Zealand or move there (I have dual citizenship w/Australia because that’s where my parents are from so I think I can just move there).

@@LisaCalegari We don't base how Maori we are by fractions, percentages or blood quantum. There is no such terminology in Maori-dom. You have Maori ancestors? You are Maori. Your ancestors tie you to this land. You are us. Please don't ever feel you have to quantify how much Maori you are. You are Maori through and through! You will venture here one day and be reconnected with your ancestors who wait.

I didn't know there are Polynesian words for.
Scaramoche scaramoche, fandango & Bismillah. lol
But it is nice that this is a Polynesian song I can know what's being said & sing along 👍🏼👍🏼

Theyve most likely just used the melody but changed the words.

Titus Cato I was waiting for the word Bismillah too! I’m not going to lie. From the get go, all I could think about was, I wonder if they’ll say Bismillah, of will they have their own version of the word?

Lol they didn’t translate the song outright but hearing the lyrics I can say it has the same essence as the original had but only how Māori would express it ☺️👌🏽👌🏽

    • @niulyfe
      @niulyfe Před 5 lety +7

Well Bismillah just means God so they most likely used the Maori equivalent or maybe an expression

Couple of years ago, I learned from a duet I did with a gentleman who is Maori and had to learn more! What a gorgeous country, New Zealand which by the way, the first country to give women the right to vote. While looking at art on a totem, I had seen very similar in Alaska's Inuit. Which then led me to Pangaea.
A documentary on Asian eyes which covers the world, blond blue eyed fall in that mix as well. Jennifer Lawrence was one example. Fascinating! Many Asians are learning there is "Native American" (I use that loosely) in their ancestry DNA. If you look, really look at people's faces, have the desire of "Knowledge Is Power," seek.
While watching a Korean series depicting the Silla kingdom in 300, one of the Hawrang could be cast as a Native American. Thus, my journey to learn more.
A few years ago, you could put an image of yourself and an image ie celebrity would be matched. Imagine my surprise when an Asian actress who I'd never heard of, was my face match!
We had many Samoan families in our church as most were entertainers in Central Florida.
They are so very lovely, caring, big hearted beautiful spirits. I have missed them since moving away.
Smule.com is the site that started with my singing, leading to the knowledge of the Maori. A cellphone or computer and earbuds are all you need. A sweet lady in Indonesia loves jazz and her house is simple. I have sung with a French speaking girl doing my best to sing in French. A gent in the Canary Islands is another. I find it phenomenal that the world in the state it's in, that a group of people can make a connection with music. A variety of languages, songs that are known to be a certain way, gets rearranged and those who play instruments, will record a piece, put it on the site so that your accompaniment will be acoustic guitar only, piano, etc.
I have never mentioned this site before but seeing this performance of such expressive and talented people (and my Maori guy) I hope you will give it a shot. I have seen some who are not paying and don't know if the company does that due to their locations ie not so economically well off as others. I used to sing with the Canadian based Singsnap but no computer and they went with an alternative platform available only to those who have an IPhone. Quite a while ago and last I checked, still nothing. I made friends and have lost many as health declined. I *miss* the camaraderie of Singsnap, the ability to change the key, etc. I know several couples who met through the site and are happily married!
Give it a shot. Music is good for the body, mind and soul!
The next time you put together a sandwich for a quick bite to eat meal, think of the miracles it takes to get from seed to harvest from all over the world to ships, trucks, markets, to your home, the electricity to keep condiments and the vegetables fresh to create that sandwich! So many of us don't have a single slice of bread nor water. Peace be with you.
