  • Jack Deboe meets Chorda in the latest video of our Artist First Impressions series. Chorda’s intuitive nature makes it easy as Jack picks it up and learns he can strum any sound he wants.
“Right away you’re getting past the barriers to entry a lot of people run into.”🪄

Him picking it up like a guitar makes me think you really need to make an Artiphon Instrument 2

What kind of features would you be looking for on an "INSTRUMENT 2"?

@@Artiphon I would buy it if you just updated the USB port on the Instrument to USB-C.

The number one thing it needed was more open software. A control "mod matrix" of sorts so people could script how they wanted it to work, rather than waiting for firmware updates for basic interactions. Also, a replacable battery. The One was almost perfect as it was, but was hindered by software and just needed a tad more refinement on the hardware to make it a bit more consistent. (or at very least, per key calibration adjustment to keep it in order as it wears in)
The Instrument One was a truly inspired piece of hardware that was hampered by software that didn't respected the intelligence of the user, expected people to use it like a toy. The closed software then forced people into that workflow, and so no one who was serious about making music and exploring the depth of it wanted to, or even could, dive in deep.
Instrument One needed very little. Only minor hardware refinements, and then an modular software solution that let people use the hardware however they wanted.
(a surface material that could slide better and wouldn't break down with the oil of your fingers and/or require covering it in scotch tape would also be lovely)

@@treschlet Batteries are often more replaceable than you think. If it’s just screws holding it together then you could take it an apart. Batteries are pretty standard and usually have a model number on them. If you make sure the connector is right it should be an easy swap as long as it’s not soldered on or otherwise difficult to remove. Just search online for the battery model and you can probably find a list of battery connectors that should be fairly easy to visually identify. It’s probably a type of two pin JST.

Can you manually play a full octave with this? if so, how many octave can you play by default? like in guitar, you can play every notes from E2 to E6. Can this instrument do something similar?

    • @Artiphon

At launch, Chorda will not support a chromatic scale. However, you can choose key and major or minor, which gives you two octaves of major or minor pentatonic scale on the pads.

looks incredibly uncomfortable to hold while strumming

You can also play Chorda flat like a keyboard or attach a strap if holding it is not your preferred way of playing.
