This is one of the most classic Mr Bungle performances. I think this is the only one that was ever pro shot, unless there is one Im missing. The rest were amateur recordings. This to me is an important piece of history. It was not on youtube in full so I decided I would do the needful. :)
Mr. Bungle was an experimental band from Northern California. The band was formed in 1985 while the members were still in high school and was named after a children's educational film. Mr. Bungle released four demo tapes in the mid to late 1980s before being signed to Warner Bros. Records and releasing three full-length studio albums between 1991 and 1999. The band toured in 2000 to support their last album but in 2004 they disbanded.[1] Although Mr. Bungle went through several line up changes early in their career, the longest serving members were vocalist Mike Patton, guitarist Trey Spruance, bassist Trevor Dunn and drummer Danny Heifetz.

Is this te band Brian from Korn was talkin about?
Pretty sure this was the band he was talking about. 👍
Mr. Bungle is making me feel more comfortable in accepting the fact that I'm a strange weirdo
ohhh yeah
No need to state the obvious
After over 20 years of listening to Mr Bungle (and other bands Mike Patton has recorded and performed with for the public), I have come to realise that you have to be weird/strange/eclectic, on some level to be able to appreciate, like/love and even understand the themes and lyrics of this band. For me, Mr Bungle with the way they change genres of music and tempo or mood, are the sort of act that happen once in a century. I never get tired of hearing any music they have made !
Thanks, Captain Obvious!
@@thewilfer they're geniuses
I can imagine the enormously difficult task at hand to have every instrument and vocal on stage mixed properly throughout the performance
Still the mixing butchered a few songs
@@nelsonchike4812 none of them knew they were robots in particular sounds pretty rough. Air conditioned nightmare on the other hand sounds brilliant.
Lots of signals to the sound people from the band
That's why they aren't. The mix is bizarre (no pun intended) and half the shit is out of tune. Amazing show though.
Granted, live festival mixes can be hellish (let alone with this lineup) but this one never really hits its stride throughout. It's potentially the best proshot 90s Bungle footage but the missing/poorly leveled instruments make certain portions sound naked out of context (the Travolta verses, yikes). The monitor mix might have been better since the band seems to be into it. I would kill to get my hands on the stems and redo this and I'm not even a professional mixer.
Bungle is an eclectic, mind fuck tornado of styles you didn't know you craved.
+Dustin Hanlin totally agree
Geez. How else could you describe it. This is the definition
Dustin Hanlin--Excellent.
Kinda like System of a Down
I've heard about this band forever, because I like Faith No More, but never checked them out until now. Chino from Deftones talked about them a few times, and I should have known then to check them out, because Chino has pretty good taste in music, and makes dope music. That's what got me to finally check these guys out, because all my other favorites have side projects, Solo stuff, so I started checking out Team Sleep, Crosses, and Palms. I like all Chinos stuff, so I started it with other bands like System of a Down. I finally checked out their side projects/Solo stuff, and it's cool too. The point is I'm gonna start checking out stuff from bands other stuff.

I don't think people realize how talented these guys are
1. they are all perfectly in tune and in time with one another
2. originality galore
3. Mike is up there with Freddie Mercury as vocalists go AND as entertainers go
4. sheer fearlessness
Mr. Bungle is THE SHIZNAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While I thoroughly appreciate the musicianship and talent, I've never been able to get into their songs. I have certainly tried, but it's just not for me.

A truly bizarre band at the Bizarre festival is refreshing.
For those wondering who the other 2 guys playing other than the Mr. Bungle original members are:
James "Jim" Rotondi - keyboards
William Winant - xylophone, percussion
Thank you to Manuel. I was wondering who the keyboardist and additional drummer was also for purposes of archiving this concert.
Doesn’t surprise me to find someone with BTbAM profile pic here 😄😍
William Winant does a ton of weird percussion stuff with a lot of different people. He was involved with Mike's Mondo Cane album a few years back.
William Winant is a musical beast!!!
For the comments complaining about the audience not "digging it." How in the hell are you supposed to react? If I was there, I would be standing still in awe of this amazing band. There was people moshing.. but those parts are super short... One music is intense then it's clam..
I love clam music
nah nah bizarref is know for the bad crowds
How is anyone supposed to respond to this?😂
I love it but if I were there I would just stand and look, my brain doesn't know how to react to this😂
I get your point as some songs are pretty slow and not that exciting, but what about Goodbye Sober Day or None Of Them Knew They Were Robots those got at least get some good reactions or moshing
eat a clam!!!!!!!!!!
You can quickly see a couple of the Deftones and Blink guys on the side of the stage wondering how the fuck they're gonna follow this.
My god the coordination and skill...Bungle was a collective of musical geniuses. I've loved their records since high school; that they could actually perform this stuff live and so flawlessly is just...incredible.
I didn't know Tony Soprano played percussions in Mr Bungle.
HAAHAH
U bastard
JAJAJAJAJA ME EITHER!
I've watched this whole thing about 15 times
Same.Fucking insane good
those are pathetic numbers my friend
William Winant… the unsung touring hero of live Mr. Bungle. If you know you know. God damn that dude should have been a full time member. He lived and breathed the performance, and you can see how much he cares about it being perfect every time he’s on camera. Same with Bar & Danny. And Danny is so f’ing underrated
Trevor Dunn never fails to amaze me. I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face while on stage dressed like that.
I saw Mr. Bungle in early 90's. Venue held less than 250 people. They all came out in scary ass masks. Totally amazing and petrifing.
The money I would pay to see that...
I saw them in Madison, WI in 1995/96 and they had the masks on there too. Melt Banana opened. Bungle encored with "Everybody's Working For The Weekend" fucking amazing.

If this ain't the best Mike Patton performance, it definitely is one of the best.
Lo da todo, hasta caerse al suelo.
Patton's a musical genius. Diverse, erratic, and hitting note's spot on. I can't imagine what goes on in his brain to make his art.
The growl at 8:35 caught me off guard, had to rewatch 5 more times.

I must have been in a coma. This is my first listen of this INCREDIBLE BAND! Mike Patton has to be the best vocalist EVER!!! What a f'n RANGE this lead singer has. I've been to a Bungle concert in 1999... what an experience!!!!!!!
This is not a band for the light of day.

At 14:20 Trey is CLEARLY signalling the sound guy to turn his guitar down a bit. This is because at this part, the guitar has to be more quiet to synergize with the keys more. It's pretty self-evident in the studio version. Mr Bungle is just one of those bands you gotta know good to be a good sound guy for imo.
I can think of few bands that I'd like to do sound for less than Bungle. What needs emphasis and what needs pushed to the background changes from measure to measure. If you weren't practicing with them on a regular basis you'd be hopelessly lost. So while the mix leaves much to be desired here, the sound guy gets a bit of a pass. Plus, there's a grand total of one pro-shot Bungle show available so we have to content ourselves with this until the reunion. :D
The musician would hardly rely on a sound engineer to control Dynamics. Guitar just got to loud on the course of music. For the PA and also monitors
Actually this "synergizing" that you're reffering to only goes to the audience PA. If he's asking anything, is to the stage tech to balance his monitor a bit better.
I
that's for the dedicated monitor mix. otherwise he could just turn the volume down on his guitar to instantly effect what the audience was hearing
A Perfect mixture of insanity and genius that could never be matched. Every measure a challenge and revelation of true skill. Every performance exposing just how lazy entertainment has become in comparison to the marathon of genre, musicianship, technique and skill that is Mr Bungle. Anyone who has been fortunate to witness this display of maniacal brilliance has won the jackpot of bragging rights. Mr Bungle is a category all its own and it is every bit worthy of praise. Salute to Mr Bungle.
True Words! You nailed it 100%. 🙌
Mike Patton is the fuckin man.
Girls Locker Room: Omg Stacy, PE class sucks.
Boys Locker Room:
Boys really do be singing in the locker rooms. When I went camping this summer I always heard guys singing together from the males shower room/bathroom. Never heard it from the ladies room though.
This was filmed inside the boys locker room
trey spruance.... the unsung hero.... he's amazing and (if you listen to the secret cheifs 3 stuff you'll see that he) had a BIG influence on the mr bungle sound
yes, mike and trevor are amazing, but trey deserves a shout out
C J Parrott no doubt they are all amazing musicians why bungle was such a juggernaut
Yes! "Brazen Serpent" is an incredible Secret Chiefs 3 masterpiece. It is amazing and exhausting.
Trey was in original band.. since thier start.. tractor ran over my balls...
And not only that, he also played the guitar on my favorite Faith No More album, King For a Day.
yeah trey is awesome. granted, i've only heard him in mr bungle and faith no more but those have given me a great impression of him.
That voice is a gift from God!
While listening to this, my husband quipped that a keen double-bill would be mr. Bungle and Tom Waits. Totally different spectrums, yet somehow fitting that quirky, dark, Weimar-era circus vibe. I think he's right!
I thought their music would be really hard to replicate live but they sound as good or better than on the records!
".......the only place where 9.000 bands can play and none of them re good (cheering), that's right... especially us!" that cracked me up, pure bungle
"Where 9,000 bands can play and none of them are good, especially us."
I sometimes wonder if Mr. Patton truly understands his impact on the world.

A funny anecdote about the last song: "Goodbye sober day" is a Finnish "drinking man´s proverb". Patton had been touring with FNM ( I think it was the last tour with Martin), and had befriended with a journalist in Finland, and spent a day with him... apparently drinking. And this Finnish guy, who´s name escapes me, had used that proverb. It had amused Patton a lot - and the next publication of Mr.Bungle featured a songtitle that originates to that one tourdate in Finland:)
+nimim. Marko Mikkilä It's the same with Caralho Voador (from King for a Day...Fool for a Lifetime). FNM toured with Sepultura and Patton learned some portuguese slang words. Caralho Voador means Flying Dick in Portuguese.
"Flying Dicks" would be a great bandname:D

A lot of those people didn't realize they were in the presence of such greatness. To see them live is fucking brilliant.
Nice shots of the whole fest panning from the back to the stage, really gives a feeling of being there. Wonder how many ppl actually appreciated the greatness they were witnessing. I'd be way back laying on the lawn tripping my ass off & willingly be letting Mr Bungle melt my mind, hehe!
I got into Faith No More just as they broke up so checked out California as it came out... Wasn't prepared for it, didn't click with me at first. Took me about a year to even begin to understand it (then again I was only 15 & mainly into mainstream metal at the time) Now I put it on from time to time & get absolutely flawed by it's brilliance (along with their other albums!) Hard to pick a favourite, they're each so unique & amazing... Wish they could've stayed together longer (or would reunite) for more albums!
They're back

Check out Secret Chiefs 3. Trey Spruance is who you find when you go on a desert search for techno Allah.
I have to say this is the most Zappaesque non-Zappa band I've ever heard!
Google a band called "Cardiacs". Little known english "pronk" (punk/prog, although tim smith the singer hated the term) from the early 80s till recently. Like Zappa in a three way bar room brawl with the sex pistols and devo. You'll see a big influence on Bungle (and Paton loved Cardiacs)

One thing? I'll give you two: you are thoroughly and wonderfully bizarre, Mr. Patton. And so is your band. Thank you!!!!!!
I think i just fell in love! Amazing!
I place Mike Patton in the same musical genius bin as Brian Wilson and Jazz Coleman of Killing Joke . Patton's work is like an angry and unstable "Smile." These signatures and orchestration are insane! What fantastic musicians! How the hell do you rehearse for a live show like this??
In fact, I listen a lot of Brian Wilson's influence in some Mr. Bungle tunes
Why do people always single Mike Patton out?
Trey and Trevor are also the other geniuses of Mr Bungle, and Mr Bungle have heavy influence and association with John Zorn (both the band Naked City and Zorn's other genre hopping stuff in the 80s).
A high percentage of what these guys do both in Bungle and outside of Bungle can be traced back to specific pieces and albums by Zorn.
I do not know why he is wearing a dress and I can't really understand the other things going on here but I love it.
