In this video, Dagan walks us through the incredible features found within the Epiphone SG Standard 61 Vintage Cherry.
This is like taking a step back in time and grabbing a 1961 Gibson SG - however it's a fraction of the cost.
This is an affordable classic electric guitar for players of all levels at beginner prices, inspired by the legendary Gibson SG 1961.
You have a classic dual-cutaway solid-body design, pictured here in a Classic Vintage Cherry finish.
To give you the vintage sound, but with added modern reliability, you have Epiphone ProBucker-2 (Neck) and ProBucker-3 (Bridge) Pickups built-in.
A 60's SlimTaper Mahogany neck provides all the comfort you need whilst the Epiphone Deluxe Vintage machine heads with 18:1 ratio are reliable and responsive.

Hi your first review of the 1966 sg realy got me into wanting to learn how to play so I bought one. I'm 14 now and you have realy impacted my life with your inspiration. So thank you Dagan
eamon mccann
So how has your journey been?
Get this guy a thousand likes
I hope you are still rockin! \m/
See what you did in the beginning! #copyrightclaim won't hurt me.
Great overview Dagan, as always. Love and respect. Take care PMT crew!!!
I couldn't decide if I should get the standard or the 61 standard. Thank you! 61 all the way! Love your channel 😍.
Thanks, Dagan! Your reviews are GREAT!
Lol he's holding that neck dive. Great work. Love your videos, Dagan.
I love your reviews dagan, keep it up!
Loved mells smells in the intro , great song
Hells like bells spirit.
@@Ozzysm more like bells that ring in the place that is not heaven
Hahahahahaha :D:D
I love to watch Dagans playing. He has always a great sound is funny and loves Guitars. This thing looks and sounds great. I don't care about the Veneer, importanst thing is the sound that comes out of it. When you want a Gibson look, then buy one. This is Epiphone🤘🏻 and it rocks, ugly or not
lol, this guy is amazing. Amazing player and hilarious
I have it and It’s my no.1 now. I just can’t take my hands of it. I love The way neck feels. Its a slim taper neck and its really the most playable guitar I have, even my Gibson SG with Sideways Vibrola or my Gretsch Electromatic Jet Duo Players Edition are nowhere near this one. Love the neck pickup. It really sings. I wanted to buy the Maestro Vibrola version but when I tried it in my local Gibson store that claw from Maestro Vibrola was just Getting in my way and then I tried this one and then I knew that one is for me. It’s my only guitar without Bigsby or sone kind of tremolo system. Its very light. No neck dives. I just love how light it is. My Gretsch is chambered but its heavy as a church bell.
Wow, awesome guitar, thank you for doing the review.
You are amazing Dagan. I really enjoy most of your reviews. I like the balance between speaking and playing. Keep it up!
P.S. My wallet probably hates you as much as it hates every guitar store :c
I thought he was playing hells bells for a second
It’s the non copyrighted version.
1.5 seconds of clean and the rest of the video is him shredding like mad I love it 🙌😂
Left out my man Mick Taylor. Great guitar I want one!!
I had a beautiful 2018 Gibson SG standard is autumn brown and this 61 Epi in vintage cherry. Guess which one stayed? This Epi. For the price, the quality difference wasn’t that huge a difference. The Gibson still had some QC issues, the Epi isn’t perfect but still close. I preferred the sound from the Epi too. The Gibson sounded warmer and milder, but the Epi sounded more crisp and aggressive which I prefer. To make it perfect, I bought vintage style genuine Gibson SG knobs for the Epiphone for a real classic look. Killer sound, killer looks. Sold the Gibson and didn’t look back. I will instead be looking forward to buying a Gibson with p90s to keep the Epi company. The Epi did have one issue, the switch sometimes would cut out the sound, but I opened the back and bent the metal contact tabs on the switch and it makes a better contact now and no more cutting out.
It just sound so damn good with that jcm 800 studio 🤘
I wanted the worn les Paul but I think I want this 61 SG
What amp setting you running dagan? I'm very very close getting one of these and I'm doing a bit of research between the pickups in this and the standard
It sounds good ! Damn it!
SG ALL THE WAAAAY 🤘
I only follow because Dagen is awsome
Gracias...
Which one's better? Standard or standard 61??... I really prefer the look of the full batwing pickguard coz it looks more like a gibson... and i prefer the sound of it too... but the easier high fret access on the 61 is just stabbing me in the chest..
What a beautiful review. Well done. Is he this cool 😎 in real life?
that was made for gibsons , getting one for sure
I ordered mine yesterday and will be delivered later today.
Currently Zzounds/AMS has their exclusive Pelham Blue model on sale; discounted from $499 to $429.95.
I was torn between the white regular (bat wing) Standard with Alnico Classic Pro w/Alnico V pups and the Pelham Blue '61 with Alnico II's.
It was a combination of the sale price and the Alnico II's that snared me here. (I prefer my humbuggerers to be Alnico II, like the Gibson '57 Classic's I installed in my '96 Epi LP Standard. Slash uses A-II's and his tone isn't too bad, is it? 😺)
i paid 200 for mine in japan and it's my favorite guitar.
Please do some review to epiphone les paul special inspired by gibson....
Is this better than Epiphone SG standard $499.99 new basically the same guitar ? Or standard 61 Epiphone SG better?
It sounds great!
Im having trouble choosing the Epiphone sg standard 61 or the sg standard
Standard or 61? I have a Les Paul with Alnico II pups.
is this better than the Epiphone SG standard?
Epiphones Alnico classic vintage humbuckers and Pro buckers are highly Acclaimed
This Epi SG looks very cool. Which Epiphone SG of this new range sounds the closest to Angus Young ?
61
That’s actually not a bad Angus Young tone right off the bat.
Hello sir which one do u think is good? Should i buy epiphone sg std 61 or just epiphone sg standard? Someone please give me suggestion coz i'm really looking for a budget guitar price right now. Thank you
I like the veneer 👍👍🥋🥋🎸🎸
Which is the best SG under $500 US according to you? I’m confused by all the options.
I think the epiphone sg standard is better than 61
That guitar cost me a lot of money.. How much does it cost btw?
Is there a significant difference between the standard and the standard 61?
Thinner neck on the 61
One uses Alnico Pro pickups which I understand are more modern sounding and the 61 uses Probuckers which are vintage inspired sounding. Haven’t tried them but that is electronically the main difference besides the different pick guard which is more visual
Hi i like epiphone sg standard and cool guitar and I am interested in Dean flying v 79 and epiphone sg standard I like orange amps .
What amp and pedal(s) were used here?
Great guitar to play black sabbath's riffs i think
The P90 version would be even better for Sabbath :)
Can you review gibson sg faded?
Good video-p
I bought one of these last year, sold it to get a 62 reissue fender Strat, wish i would of kept it, great playing and sounding guitar, only one thing was the neck seemed a little out of balance with the body, but thats just me
this is for my good friend robby
I want it
Epiphone have been incredible for about 10 to 15 years now
I think they're a good value but their QC consequently is still subpar
@@JT-gm4fk who says? show me actual proof of that and not someone's opinion show actual proof and not just one or two guitars
I have a 1996 Epi LP Standard (MIK) that has a slimmer and faster neck than any Gibson that I've ever played. The pickups were SH!T so I replaced them with Gibson '57 Classics and it's a tonal beast that you would never suspect wasn't an American made guitar.
And the QC was undeniably superb.
@@JT-gm4fkcompared to who? Gibson? Their QC is crap. Epi has been excellent for many years.
Is the neck dive issue still there on this one?
Wayyy too much neck dive
SG Standard '61 or SG Custom?
Which is better the Epiphone sg standard 61 or the G-400 pro sg?
Epiphone sg standard '61
What puts me off actually buying one is the veneer, might have to opt for something from the muse range instead
I might consider one the day they stop with that stripey veneer nonsense.
@@iagobroxado I dont understand how they never looked at the finished product and thought, "nah lose the veneer, its dam ugly"
Spoiling the ship for a hap'orth o' tar?
Do any of these come left handed?
Liam Larsen nope
Liam Idk if this new model is available Lefty. I have the Epiphone SG 400 Pro lefty. It has coil split. It's an awesome guitar I highly recommend. See if you can find one. Still may be some new ones left. I have mine 3 yrs. Love it
This guitar is good to play slipknot songs?
Too late, already bought G400 Pro Alpine white.
G400 sounds better
Just wish the bevel /top Veneer wasn’t as noticeable wish they painted the bevel give it a cherry burst look then would look totally awesome
Is it available as a lefty?
Toilet
Great guitar! Coil tap is overrated, if you want a single coil just buy a guitar with single coils! A coil tap or split will never gives you a proper single coil tone. If you want more twang: Filtertron is the answer! 😜
This one or the epiphone sg g 400 pro? For metal
This one
G400 is deeper and resonating
Buy an EMG pickup and Tour favorite guitar
Hey nice review! What stopped me from buying this guitar was that they are made in China. Do you know if this is the only case or there are some other factories for this guitar??
Thanks
Gus GK I know what you mean. But recently China have upped their game . Maybe they are trying to outdo Indonesian made guitars . Check out the quality for yourself in shops eventually . Quality has improved a lot
The thing with Gibson is their prices and quality control. A lot of their control is so bad that they have cracked necks and just aspects that are unappealing to me like the Ipaul (never letting that one down). It was disgusting. But Epiphone is really putting something that Gibson isn’t understanding and that’s what you see here these are guitars that are going back to what made them interesting in the first place no bizarre ipauls. Just a beautiful piece of rock n roll machinery. You don’t see strats or telas with weird aspects like that and they’re durable and affordable. There’s a video of the poor designs of Gibsons I don’t mean to insult a company but to just considering the flaws and the outrageous price there’s a reason I have a disconnected relationship with Gibson. My Cobain jaguar is just as bad as any other American made guitar there’s hardly a difference between Epiphone and Gibson.
What about AC/DC riffs on it ?
Well he did play Hells Bells (or sort of)
is it good ? im thinking about buy it
it’s a kickass guitar, therefore go for it!
For the money I guess, but you can get a used vypyr 1000 for not much more. It's
about as close to an SG sound behind Gibson. The epiphone honestly is dark and muddy
@Jeremy Terry thank you guys for the information I just got it !
The are now $500.00
This one for punk?
It‘s punk. You can use an Acoustic with an Piezo for Punk
You can use a epiphone Casino voy punk, is punk....
This one or the Epiphone les paul?
Both are the best. I won't say that one is better than the other.. but just think of it like this... Do you want to be Slash or Angus Young?. Hope you can choose easier now!
I had to make the same decision but luckily you can get coil tapping systems on both, so if you decide to get an sg (like me) you can pull out the coil tap and itll sound like a les Paul, but if you pull the other it will sound like a strat, it's all down to looks because of this, good luck
Go try them out you have to. I went in the store buying the Les Paul and that thing was heavy and uncomfortable, turned me off from buying it
@@thehandydandy bruh whutt??.. trust me, when you're on a live gig doing a solo, like me.. damn, a ligt guitar is a big pain in the ass. It goes all over the place. You try to bend, the whole thing moves... You'll THANK the heft of a Les Paul once you realize how beneficial it is. And even in playing sitting down, I don't get what's uncomfortable about it?..
And in terms of weight as is, yes it would be very unusual at first but after some time, you'll grow to get used to it and it wont feel heavy at all anymore. It's the same thing, going from a heavy guitar to a ligt one. It always takes some adjusting and getting used to. A 5 minute check in the store isn't enough to judge a guitar. You gotta live with the thing to realize its worth.
Take it from me, I play long gigs standing up with a les Paul, damn I have athsma since birth and my back & lungs are weak. But I wouldn't want to use any other guitar other than a Les Paul and SG. You'll get used to it over time and you literally won't feel its heaviness anymore. It'll feel as though you're picking up an ordinary every-day acoustic.
The top looks like a frazzle
The probuckers are just very bland and muddy. It just doesn't have that sg growl.
I raised the pickups a bit on my explorer that has the same probuckers and it made a big difference.
That veneer looks terrible! I was wanting one of these since my main guitar is a Gibson '61 but I'll pass now that I've seen that veneer.
it is. i ended up getting a black SG standard after starting out wanting an epiphone. the epiphone lacks some of the fullness the SG standard has and i didn't want to get an epiphone then buy a proper Gibson SG later and spend more money so i bit the bullet and got it :)
Good thing I was looking for the white one anyways
the wood pattern is the reason i want this guitar...
@@Yes-cm1ph It's a veneer to hide how many pieces of wood they used to make the body that's why the sides are different. You're the first person I've heard that likes it.
I like it too
You are Johnny Depp of the guitar community.
It works for metal?
Its Goltack Well, the pickups are not that heavy, but with a good distortion it’s going to be more than fine. Also, if you want to sound heavier, you can change the pickups.
Ordered guitar last week still no updates no phone calls back no emails so fuck it I’ll try CZcams comments stf if I get another generic message back
Did you ever get it?
Mec, t'en fais trop...reste sobre
Like real Gibson, very close...
I personally hate the new Epiphone SG, the veneer only on the face of the body looks stupid. I would rather get the G400 Pro, that one looks a lot better and even has coil splitting for $30 less.
Yea but them you have the old epi headstock. This one more resembles a gibson headstock
Don't buy Chinese guitars
Agreed
Helpful!
As a matter of fact what ever it is if it's not made in USA don't buy it
As a matter of fact if it's not made in America don't buy it I mean anything we have lost our country we have blindly let corporations and politicians in bed together kill out country
Charles Smith good attitude. I’ll wait for them to be on discount sale
Getting tired of all this epiphone nonsense lately. Stop making it look like a premium item. Sick of epiphones already. Get a job save up and buy a Gibson already
Fuck Gibson. Epiphone made Gibson know your history. Gibsons are cheaply made expensive and not worth anything. Fenders on the other hand, affordable both American and Mexican made durable and overall much more easier to upgrade. Besides Epiphone is owned by Gibson.
There’s nothing wrong with Epiphones especially the newer ones
