Lafreniere is finally being utilized in the correct way, with the right players and he's been producing at an incredible level at 5on5.
Lafreniere has more 5v5 goals than McDavid, Drasliti, Barzal, Robertson, Petterson, Marchand, Aho, Ehlers. Imagine if he played on PP1 that is on the ice for 90 seconds an opportunity?? He would have another 20 points end of story!!
Just goes to show you that not all first-overall picks are going to come out guns blazing from the start. You have to have patience and let them find their game. Way to go Laf!
Rangers knew Lafreniere has to play with Panarin this year to boast his confidence and play. Good thing he responded.
I think the key to Lafreniere's success is that he is harnessing the power of Jeff Kent with that mustache
he's been great all year but was really snakebit the first half. Him and Ovechkin had the lowest conversion rate on great chances or something. Ovi turned it around and now Laf is too. He's been making plays all season, and nearly all his scoring is 5v5 because they wont let him on PP1
In NY there was a lot of talk about Laffy along with Quick after that game, but to be honest he's been playing this way all season long, albeit with better results of late. BUT forget the point totals, he's passed the eye test all year long and as his confidence grows, so does his game. If he were on the 1st PP unit (especially the Ranger one) he would have 70 points right now (instead of 54) ... and I think long term he will be an 85-90-point guy.
The sample size is still too small. He is going to be a superstar though in my opinion, after we stuff up this season (which we will) Laf will be the centre piece for the retool and we will be build around him.
Draisaitl D+4 = 50 ES points 19 ES goals. Laf D+4 (pro rated) = 25.5 ES goals 51 ES points.
This season has been a tremendous stride in the right direction. It's all about the playoffs now. Can't have a repeat of last year's 0 for everything vs NJ in 7 games.
totally agree about Lanfreniere needing time on the top power play unit, but it is among the best in the NHL, who do you move to give him an opportunity?
Zib
Never been happier to be wrong!
Calling a 23 year old a bust is so stupid. Panarin is having his best season ever at 31 years old. Linemates matter. Laff is having a career year because Panarin has unlocked his game. Laff is a top 6 forward player on a team.
22 years old
Good on you for copping to it mate
Of Krieder gave him the LW top line door we’d have seen this year 2.
Own it all you haters laffy is playing like a number one now everyone jump on boards
he hasn't proven anyone wrong. he might have shed his bust label this season but still has yet to come close to a point per player. hes a number 1 pick and hasn't performed like one and was on the best team in the regular season this year
I think the reason he's not on the first power play...is to take some pressure of the young man. He's on the line with Bread & Trocheck! That's the Big difference, this yr. 2 great Pro's to learn from. Trocheck makes them both better...LOVE VINNI👍Glad he's finally a Ranger...GO RANGERS ❤
He should probably have 10 more assists just with all the great looks he's given Panarin and Trocheck.
I wanted canucks to trade for him last year he was 23 on a slump it wouldve been a steal Latty Taffy will be a superstar it takes time for player to get used to the big game plus stacked with rangers roster he enever got a chance to shine know look at him hes a staple
he is 22 years old now
@@babouska5985 daaaaaaam seeeeeeee he's even youngerrrrrrrrr that's crazy he's gonna be crazyyyy goooood
you're smoking good stufffffffffff @@Platnatimingbelt
The Rangers would have never traded him, he will be a career Ranger.
@cameronbainbridge7347 of course but never say never cause everyone has a price
He was stuck on the third line. Surrounded by other kids. He needed to be surrounded by elite vets. I said it for years. Increase TOI and he’d develop. Thank god Lav thought the same thing.
Also this isn’t football. Hockey fans expect this to be like the NFL where a guy is an instant star. Sometimes it is the case. But not always. Plus He’s only 22
Internet scouting blew up at a funny time and I think a lot of us who were basically amateurs didn't have a realistic understanding of how long it takes for a prospect to break out. It was made especially wonky by the fact that the internet was screaming out their same anxieties abouy players lol!
All these guys are planning out- you'll get the odd outlier like Yakupov, Puljujarvi and maybe Zadina' but generally when 6he critical part of the scouting community agrees that a guy is something special- it actually USUALLY is...
I built my dynasty on Hughes, Laffy, Slaffy, Stanky, Michky. Holtskzy, Cristskzy, Leosky, Werensky, Lukeskies, Clarkeskzy, Swaykzky, Wolfskzey, and Cosszskzeys....
Slaf... Byfield... Rossi... Lafrreniere...
Wrights up next..
Yakupov and Puljujarvi are the outliers- in a dynasty format you need to ignore the odd bust. Anomolies happen but hy and large the draft gets it close...
I say i will wait tell he can replicate this year so many one year wonders that happen I don't say someone isn't a bust or not living up to their expectations tell they can actually do it for multiple years.
Laffy is already more productive than Zibanejad and Kreider in their respective 4th years in the nhl.
If he is not on the first power play next year, he's going to accept a hostile offer the next year after
Laf has more 5 on 5 points than raymond both this and last season why laf looks worse for many is the lack of PP tht most of the time is anywere from 1/3 to 1/2 of the points top players makes, and a lower icetime comepare to raymond, rangers have been stacked upfront compared to red wings.
... and let's not forget, he had to switch sides as well. First year on the RW.
No he was not, the kid was being used the wrong way i always felt he was more of a roamer and now he has proved it.
He only needed 2 elite line mates to carry the play for him.
he's not proving anyone wrong, he was supposed to be a franchise player, he was super hyped his draft year and the best season of his career is 4 years after he was drafted and he's going to get 55 points, super disappointing
The Rangers came close to destroying this guy
not disappointing when he gets no pp minutes and they're the best team in the league and he's still 22 lil bro, stay mad
@@WestonNYR no pp minuets that's how great he is, keep crying kid lol
55 points with no pp time is a star
More even strength 5vs5 goals than both Tkachuks, Kaprizoff, Barkov, Raymond, and a bunch of other big names…too many to list. Once he is added to the PP1, his points total will shoot right up. Imagine him on a unit with Fox, panarin, Kreider and Zibanejad…Only reason he’s not on it now is bc he was drafted onto a stacked NYRs team. But his time will come.
He stinks, big deal 3 goals vs worst team in league
Worst team in the league? They were above the leafs not to long ago so idk how they're the worst in the league, also he put 3 goals past the most underrated goalie in the league
Dont forget about the Chicago Bedards or the Sharks
@@xxsleepymonkeyxx6570 coyotes suck, this guy sucks, he has only 5 goals in last 13 games, scoring at end of season against a team that has no chance for playoffs. I guess he’s better than Matthews, best goal scorer in league now, he’s finally arrived!!! Woot!
@@charlieb308 I guess you don't watch much hockey or read about it either or maybe you just don't have a clue what your talking about. The guy has 25 goals and 27 assists and only 2pts are on the power play that's pretty damn good. He doesn't play on the first line either. If the kid scored on half his high danger chances this year he'd have well over 40 goals that's my issue with him he gets set up a lot for glorious chances and doesn't score on nearly enoigh of them. He's starting to bury his chances and will score a lot of goals every year from now on he finally has confidence.
