- Here are 3 Distress ink color blends for cool backgrounds that never turn out muddy. This is the first of the series in using distress ink which is a highly water reactive ink. Though these inks are popular and have been on the market for a long time, I get a lot of questions about them. Getting mud is frustrating, however getting beautiful bright blends is super easy with a few simple principles. This is so basic and easy to learn! I’ve struggled for YEARS to make a decent looking background. This concept is so easy to grasp! Thank you so much for this video💜💜
I’m so glad you found it useful!
Nice!! Love all Distress ink/oxide related videos! More Distress videos please! My fav backgrounds and die cuts are made from some variation of Distress techniques 🌈💕
You are so soothing to listen too and I loved your tips on Distress ink backgrounds. 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
I just LOVE oxide inks! TFS!
Just loved this! Just found you. I have trouble with mud so stayed away from blending anything.

Just found you. Love this!,

Love this video. I’m new so this is great. How did you attach your pads to your inks ?
Always love cool colors ... pretty blends!!
me too!
Wow, I'm new to your content, but what a lovely video! Question; how do the blendtool pads stick to the bottom of your inks? That's so very convenient ✅
They actually fit like a glove! I just stick them on the underside and they hold. I do Velcro side up
@@Betsiemorris ohhh, thank you for your reply! New subscriber here, I've just bought my first mini distress pad and blender tool👍🏼
hello. Love the video. it was really nice colors and calming as well. Where did you purchase the dryer or is it called a different name.. also if you don't have such too to dry could you use a hair dryer on cool setting or warm.. thank you.
That’s a great question! A hairdryer has a heavier air flow that is not as hot as this and is loud. I would not interchange the two 🙂 rangerink.com/products/ranger-heat-it-craft-tool
Thanks for sharing. What kind of paper did u use?
I like Neenah white cardstock 🙂
@@Betsiemorris thanks
Why did they confuse you??????
What is the dryer you are using? Thanks
It’s one of the best purchases I ever made! Here is the link for you to check it out: rangerink.com/products/ranger-heat-it-craft-tool
@@Betsiemorris thanks!
Betz, I love your tutorials. But, I have tried the distress inks and I am not getting it. I blend it and at first it comes on too dark, then quickly turns too light. I tried putting less on the blending tool but doesn't work for me. Help! any ideas much appreciated. Thanks.
I feel your pain! If you have any water or moisture on your substrate or add to it makes it lighter by turning it kind of chalky. You can use Microglaze on it to bring back the vibrancy. I sometimes don’t add water because it does make it lighter and I don’t always want that chalky finish.
@@Betsiemorris Thank you.
what do you mean by getting mud?
Often times when you combine color it can look like mud. Not the pretty brown when you want to do a distress, but a muddy color.
It usually happens when you mix complementary colors together like red/green, blue/orange, yellow/purple, etc. The result ends up a muddy brown. I guess you could also say this can happen if you mix cool colors with warm colors as a rule. It helps to use a color wheel when coloring.
Im very new to these inks... But im getting lines.... How are you not getting lines
Are you applying the ink directly to the paper? Try picking your the ink either a blending tool and then applying to your paper. Start off the page and blend in
