  • This is the kodiak canvas 12x 12 lodge tent model 6170. Inside is the winnerwell woodlander doubleview large wood stove. In this video you get an inside view of the stove in the tent with some general discussion. I talk about my cots which are from REI and my blankets from Kodiak canvas.

I hear the eagle chirping in the background!! Adds to the beauty of the stove/tent setting.

Congrats on getting your tent and stove set up....it looks great....we are going hunting in 3 weeks going to bring our Springbar and Woodland will shoot some vids. Now go buy you the water tank. I also carry a 4 x 4 x 1/2 piece of plywood that I lay under the fire retardant blanket for the floor makes it real stable.

Appreciate all the videos on this stove. It's been a frustrating decision shopping for these things and you have covered alot more info than anything I've seen yet, including the space from tent to stove (48") 🤣.... yes impossible in any tent without lots of elbow fittings. Nice set up with the Kodiak tent too!

Hey, thanks for the message. I don't have a video discussing it, I might make one on this subject. It's worth noting that, even though I did a long burn video and the stove was hot for 8 hours. That heat would not have been sufficient to heat the tent at below freezing. At least not the Kodiak canvas tent. I have at this point burned just a little less than a half cord of wood through this stove. It's a great stove but there is one complaint. In high winds with cold Temps. Say 25 degrees F and lower. You will run this stove fairly open and you will be feeding it every 2 to 3 hours. You will not stay warm and cozy through the night without getting up. Well, at least the inside of the tent won't stay warm and cozy without feeding the stove every 2 to 3 hours. Therefore, I wish it was a bigger stove. Though winnerwell doesn't make a bigger stove not would I want to pay for it. Lol. Anyway! Just a thing to note! Also, remember. Coleman makes a collapsible camp oven for like 30 bucks. Don't spend a fortune on the winnerwell one.

@@angrybeard4673 all good points for sure! Unfortunately with all the stoves being so small I'm afraid it's just the cost of staying warm(feeding the fire) that is. I've had pretty good luck with the bell tent retaining heat longer and at hunt camp last year the stove fan a buddy had on his woodlander double view distributed the warm stove air pretty decent after the fire burned out. On single digit nights we did fire up the Mr. Buddy heater too and that was helpful to not get up and feed stove. I think your burn time was as good as I've seen so I am happy about that still. It's always a struggle battling from too hot to too cold but like you said in one of your videos, the view of the fire is important to me too so the dbl. View has others beat there so far. Stay warm down there in the Big state and keep the vids going, I appreciate the in depth tutorials you give👍

Thanks for your videos on the stove and tent, they have definitely been very helpful. I think I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the same setup only I'll probably get the new 10x10 (6173) stove tent rather than the 12x12.

Yea, I'm sure it's a good tent. I wouldn't be able to really provide any guidance since everyone has their own individual desires and such. I can tell you that for me, I wish this tent was bigger. 14x14 or 16x16. I find that two cots and two people make it feel small. I do have the 8x8 room that will house all the wood and act as an overflow for stuff. Regardless. 12x 12 is a bit small for me with two people and cots and then the stove.

I also have the 12x12 Kodiak tent.
I live in Idaho and hunt/ camp into winter.
Do you think the large woodlander stove pits off to much heat for a 12x12 tent? Do think think the medium woodlander would be better to not over heat the tent?

No I do not. I think if it’s 40 degrees outside it can be a little warm. But you can just unzip a window to offset that. I think of Idaho as getting into the 20s regularly and even colder. I have found that I wish the stove was bigger so it could slow burn all night and I didn’t have to get up in the middle of the night. On really cold nights I will open the dampener because I need more heat. Wood can be burnt up in a 3 hour period when it’s really cold.

      Thanks for the reply.
      It can definitely get cold.
Late season elk you can possible get into low single digit temps with high temps in the teens.
Sounds like the large it is!

How much btu does the large woodlander emits?

Have no idea. That measurement doesn't seem to exist anywhere , so I do not know. I can tell you it gets hot enough to glow cherry red if you run it wide open.
