- How quickly can you learn the basics of braking? Military pilot and novice racing student Billy Knight takes to the track for his second lesson, while Bondurant Racing School pro driver Andy Lee shows him how to navigate short brake zones, tight corners, and contain the wrath of the Dodge Charger in this installment of the Dodge Racing School series.

Not sure why i expected to learn something instead of watching 3 minutes of awkwardness
Well... surprise: not everything is about you and what you know all ready
Norton Lykin what did you learn from this video than?
Maybe___Perhaps__: exactly, fun to watch, yes, but I still didn't see anything deep regarding driving skills. The last 30 seconds where enough for the video, trim to that and name it "Trail Braking for extra front tire grip"
+Norton Lykin: thing is, even if maybe entertaining to watch (no matter the car brand, seeing them put under stress is always satisfying), this comes off a bit like an Ad. A very hidden one at that.
Same answer; Not everything is about "me" and what "I" can learn from a video. So Corneliu was disappointed, but does that mean that the video is not relevant, nope. The content of CZcams is kind of a lottery and the creator can't possibly know what your needs are and adjust to that. In short, if you expect everything to be relevant for you, you are in for a big disappointment.
Heel toe downshift to N from D in my autobox
Yeah, what's the point right? Crazy stuff.
Vipers are usually you know... manuel
BigBalloon19087 Manuel? What does the president of Mexico have to do with this?
@@aaron8973 yes and the electric ones are Emmanuel.

“Where you look is where the car goes” ?????? I’ve been using the steering wheel this whole time
I actually looked at a chick that was walking, she had a fat ass... then my car suddenly just splattered her shit.
your hands follow your eyes
@@saidmwakinyezi1360 wooosh
It causes you to not lose sight of the strategy for the whole turn during any segment of the turn.
Dude asks about driving a viper but can't even drive a manual properly. Jeez this was worse than I expected.
Do you really think.... I mean, it's all scripted man...
What's the purpose of scripting yourself as someone who can't drive manual
"I'm progressing pretty quick" that's exactly why CZcams is filled with muscle car accidents - drivers who don't know their limitations but think they know how to handle a 600HP car.
I mean, can you really blame the guy for wanting to drive a viper?
what makes u think he cant drive a manual
"Ok you we'll just leave it in drive"
*closes video*
for real, what racing school with a shred of legitimacy would teach anything in an automatic?
Magni i have no idea. I think that you should be very experienced with a manual before you try to race. I assume it's for fundamental purposes. I guess trail braking has nothing do with the transmission (unless you incorporate heel to toe).
Come to Europe. Here 99% cars are manual. Infact don't get offended please, but when I read that "you should be very experienced with a manual before you try to race", I somehow thought: "yes and you need to be very experienced at walking before even trying to run". I know it's a bit offensive, but it was not my intention to offend anyone. I just want to point out that here driving implies knowing how to use a manual shift.
Do that in a mid engine car, dibs on useable parts
i was expecting some more advance shit base on the titles.
"How to brake properly"
In an automatic...... just press the stop button on the floor my guy
Canaan Travis LMAOOOOOO
Demesvar Clerge hahahahaha this was hilarious.....
Yeah, this was not very helpful. The focus should be on the technique in practice and action.
was there a point to this video?
zachary paris To annoy and piss you off.
Spam Can it worked!
This videos is worthless and is completely garbage
So much info in this video. Very good.
Ah, I knew it, easing into the brakes gradually depending on how far you are
Wow so much info in this video!! Thanks bro now Im gonna drive like a real pro for sure!!
Trail-Braking is something a LOT of typical drivers have no concept of!
Many of my friends think I am a "POOR" driver because I use both feet when driving an automatic... even when driving a BUS.
... Until they RIDE with me thru mountain roads...smooth as butter, with much better maintained speed...! Even in those buses!! (-;
I am not talking about JUST "trail braking" but transitional smoothness throughout the driving. Whether on a track or mountain roads, going uphill or down... it is easier on the car, the tires, and it is easier to Roll on the throttle as you continue a bit of braking and releasing the brakes as smoothly as you applied them...
you know your passengers usually want a smooth ride which is why driving schools teach one foot braking but yeah you can really balance the cars weight using two feet
thats the way it should be done. learned left foot braking in a semi. way smoother way to maintain good balance
why theres no point at the speeds you're going
Left foot braking is a technique road racing drivers learn very early in their training. Usually kart racing as you have no choice. Very useful technique for heavy traffic on public roads when you can't leave the ideal two seconds or more following distance. Reaction times are much better compared with right foot only. Caveats are do not ride the brakes and get used to using your left foot on the brake. If you do not like it or do not agree with the concept then don't use it. PS I'm a former driving instructor with the top racing schools in Canada.
great video
I’m a BONDURANT from 1987. Back in the Sears Point days.. started in carts as an 8 year old
He doesn't even know what a heel toe downshift is and his reaction time from gas to brake was sluggish and horrendous. And to top it all off he asked to drive the Viper! 😆
damn someone needs to be getting that pt in more
I learned nothing, thats my feedback.
What the hell is up with all the likes? There was 0 knowledge shared on where before the apex you should brake. Heck even an old Top Gear video with James May and Jackie Stewart had more knowledge shared than this.
I like those New Balances 👌🏽
Thanks for nothing
I'm just here to get better on Gran Turismo
😂😂
Gracias por los trucos y los consejos, esto nos ayudara a mejorar la conducción :)
Gotta love that picture....the trailbraking distance is twice as long as the actual braking distance...which is curved (understeer anyone?!?!), and it is also in place of the acceleration zone?!?! Why would you be trailbraking after that apex?!?!...not to mention that a late apex would be nice on that bend....
They thought a Hellcat was the best choice for this? Not something lighter or more agile? I'd say an MX5 is a great all round learning platform
Wdym bruh hellcat is extremely agile. Have you ever seen it at a car meet/event? The people try to dodge out the way but the car is too damn good, gets em everytime
Dodge racing school…
Is this training car 392 SRT? I live in CT but where can I take this school?
If you haven't already gone to one, Skip Barber has training programs planned for CT this summer
An automatic? Really? .... :/
just so he can learn braking without needing to worry about gearing
@@uptorest Electroneum to the moon !
Lol dodge is gonna tell me what time I need to brake during a bend
CZcams: a great platform where people who know next to nothing get their chance to criticize and make snarky remarks about others who know more than they will ever hope to.
i love dodge challenger
Video wasn't completely bad, may have given a lot of people a quick insight into trail braking. It's just too short and needs more detailed illustration
Rip to this guy on the way home.
I’ve always trail braked. I had no idea there was a name
so how do I brake properly?
Is Dexter now a driving instructor?
wtf only 2 pedals?
Those poor pads and rotors...sentenced to be burned at the brake.
But seriously repetive stops in a 4500 pound car
Are exactly what the braking system is designed to cope with.
@@PROcrastiDRIVESVofficial to an extent. Is this car all stock? Not track rated from the factory? If given an opportunity i bet i could overheat those poor rotors fairly quickly
Taken from their site:
"Standard on the Challenger SRT® 392 and SRT Hellcat is the largest front-brake system ever in an FCA US vehicle, featuring 390-mm Brembo two-piece rotors with six-piston calipers."
So yes, more than enough for VERY heavy track use. Massive vented rotors distribute heat a lot better. The massive 6 piston caliper also means a larger brake pad which also means better heat distribution. The design of pad itself will also have a backing plate to keep the heat from boiling the fluid. There is a lot of over engineering in modern vehicle braking systems. I wouldn't be worried about brake fade while doing braking tests unless I did that consecutively about 10 times and then just left the car parked. Even then unless your brake fluid is really old this isn't an issue. Just drive easy, let brakes cool and she'll be good to go.
@@PROcrastiDRIVESVofficial i guess i stand corrected but i still feel bad for those brakes
Don't sleep on SRT's engineering, that's like disrespecting Shelby, AMG, or even Nismo.
Why doesn't Road & Track magazine have a CZcams channel? The only car mag I read as a kid
Thought the professional guy was going to be the one driving and teaching us something

If he learns in a miuscle car then he can do anything 😂😂
The comments are more entertaining than the video
I’m still watching the video because of the v8 goosebumps
3:15 Let the poor guy drive a viper!
Is he using different cars? Pretty sure he was shifting in another vid, but this one is automatic.
Charger comes automatic only.
They were taking the manual out of it so for instructional purposes there isn't a clutch to press and gears to drop when he brakes.
Umm? No downshift bro?
>automatic
>not using left foot braking
There’s no clutch 🤢🤢🤮
cAn I dRIve thE VIpEr neXt?

Automatics🤮
I wish had money to take racing classes
Start by karting. Less expensive and you'll learn a ton.
get a G920 race wheel, and a subscription to iRacing. thatl be about $300 all together to get you started.
Why doesnt he use left foot to brake
Jason Kuy its what most people with automatics tend to do, its easier and safer
Nigga thats some pussy shit one foot for automatics god dammit
I guess he doesn't want to do a frontflip in his car hahaha
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. It's almost impulsive for me to use my left foot to brake in an automatic.
You're not supposed to use the left foot for braking. Using only the right foot helps keeps things smooth and slows down wear. Also it prevents you from being on the gas and brakes at the same time, which is terrible for automatics.
He sounds like sebastian vettel
I didn’t know this car could do it lmfao. Driver mod
i watch this to beat gran turismo
If you want to go faster don’t use a dodge
I don't use da brake pedal in turns i use da gas pedal.. plus im broke so i don wan waste pad life
Easy saving money tip, use the car in front of you as brake.
Downshift to slow down.
Why supper heavy dodge bout cars? Turning dodge cars?
So late breaking.
can he not break on time jesus
yeah, nah.
I'm actually here because I'm terrible at Forza Horizon
automatic. lol
Also, make sure you cross your arms when you turn. What is this crap?
race driving ? in a tank? lol uspeople..
Boats on land...... Fast coffin in racetack..........
I stopped watching this after your man said, “just leave it in drive”.
lol charger driver talking about a "turn" kek
Stick to automatic cars my guy
Step one: buy a car and not a train.
break in a straight line let off turn in power on. if u didnt know that then now you know why you understeer
I know how to heel toe down shift
I was taught to brake before corner and accelerate going in and just before you leave the corner accelerate harder this sling shots you out
abs is cheating
whats the point of this. that car has ABS.
You should hire people who know how to drive cars for a publication called "Road & Track". No wonder why your magazine is failing. Fire these dips and hire some actual talent.
I'm a crap driver but I just can't take driving advice from Americans.
how to brake properly. turn left on steering wheel and proceed to accelerate
This video was very annoying.... didn't even teach the basics of braking...just a video about a guy learning to brake in an automatic car where all braking points are set for him smh
Move on to the next video, nothing to watch here.
There is an ass for every seat and a car for every situation. Stop hating on the brands YOU don't drive when we can all agree this was was terrible content.
