    This video tutorial was so refreshing in several ways. First you didn’t feel obligated to keep adding embellishments on the finished product. Enough is enough. I think we have to train ourselves to be satisfied or happy or appreciate more simplistic cards. The Japanese are masters at making a little bit look spectacular and pristine. Often times we get sidetracked with all the stuff the creative manufacturers put out there. Yes they are beautiful and I do go full tilt on my kids cards which take all afternoon to create something unique. But I also love your simplistic cards in this video that are in a league all their own. I’m so glad you showed these as I have to make about 30 cards a month for my church Secretary to mail out. I have had a cloud of pressure over me to make detailed cards cause I know where I can take a simple card and give it a huge wow factor. (We all can really add the stuff). But it’s not practical especially for mailing. I hope I’m making myself clear. All this to say that if I don’t underestimate the value of your card why do I mine? Time to be equal here. I’m learning. Thank you so much!!

    Desiree!!! I had decided that ink smooshing was not a technique I was interested in. Everything I saw seemed to be a hot mess of colors. But you use restraint, place your colors strategically, and the results are wonderful. Spontaneous yet a bit controlled. I liked watching how you varied the way you placed the ink on the surface. I also like the white background as an element of the design. You make it look like such fun. Great suggestions for varied ways to use them on cards as well. Saved for future reference.

    • @IncludeaThankYou

      Thanks! Bristol paper is just another type of a mix media paper. It is similar to a water color paper but has a smoother texture. Water color markers work best on this paper.

  • @jaditelady173mary4
    @jaditelady173mary4 Před 5 lety

    I love these panels you made. I also like the grey and black background the best. I could see myself just making a stack of those for various backgrounds. I have all the distressed inks and a few of the new oxides. Plus I have the spray distressed stains or inks? (I'm upstairs on couch. Too lazy to go down to basement to craft room to look). So hopefully I can use them for this.
    I like using the new oxides. But I don't know if I want to invest in all of the them, since they are not sold in the small cubes. Do you ever mix the old distressed inks with the oxides? Same thing with the stains? I would just be using it on 110lb cardstock. Of all the paper I own, I do not have any watercolor paper. The painting or water coloring side of crafting is not my forte. I can freestyle with certain textures. I just don't always know which mediums can work together.
    Do you think they are going to do away with the regular distress inks and just go with the oxides? I have to admit I like the oxides better. They seen to blend better for me and it's a softer finish...on my stuff anyway. I have some oxides that I do need to get tumbled glass & sage one. I use those 2 colors alot. I just watched Jennifer McCormick's video about the new Tim Holtz alcohol pearl inks. She raved about them. Have you tried them yet?
    I also wanted to tell you that after watching your video of the Scraping for Less kit, I went over and purchased a kit and a 6 x 6 paper pad, etc.
    When I got it I was so impressed with the quality of the paper in their 6 x 6 pad. I called her and told her that I had never heard of them until I seen your video and how much I liked her paper. Plus I had a few more questions about joining the kit club. She was very nice & was glad to hear I liked the paper. I guess some people don't like the shiny side. Any I didn't know if you were on her design team or what. But I wanted her to know your video introduced it to me...in case you get credit for it in any way.
    I am really trying hard this year to use my stash (Its more like a department store than a stash) of inks, stains, etc and not buy any more...unless I really need it. Basicly everything else too....except for paper. I cannot commit to paper! I love all kinds of paper...It's my friend. Lord knows I need to go to an intervention program for paper hoarders. But I'm old, fat and alone with 2 cats and a dog...The last pleasures I have in life are chocolate and paper! And I've already seen so many other new items to try. But first I think I'm going to make a stack of these panels. So I can just have them ready for any project.
    Thanks for sharing your video and sorry I ramble typed here. But I am interested in whether you mix the water base inks with other mediums. I need to go fix my herd of animals some dinner. All 3 are staring at me with beady eyes, telling me to put this down & feed them.
    Toodles, Mary

      @harriettezmalloy7182 Před 5 lety

      Jaditelady173 Mary Hi Mary! I was just reading your comment & I have mixed the regular distress ink with the oxides. It gives a nice effect, the soft chalky look of the oxide with the deeper, translucent look of the original. It’s fun to experiment with. I don’t have any of the oxide sprays (yet) but I would mix them with the regular distress stains, I’m sure it would give fun results as well. I do have watercolor paper now, but I’ve done a TON of ink smooshing on regular 80 or 100 lb paper, just use a bit less water, or keep a paper towel close by to dab up some of the water. As long as I dry between layers I’ve never had a problem with the paper pilling or anything (though it does warp, but I’ll bend it back & forth & even put it in a heavy book to help straighten it back out). I hope this helps. (Also I hope I’m not stepping over Desiree here, I just saw your comment & enjoyed reading it, & wanted to answer since I’ve tried what you’re asking). Have a good day. ~Jenn

    • @IncludeaThankYou
      @IncludeaThankYou  Před 5 lety

      Everything Jennifer said is perfect and correct! The distress inks, oxides, and sprays are all water based so they will blend beautifully! Give it a try! and yes you can use regular card stock, just use less water... and let dry in between each layer if you add more than one!

    Could u please tell me the difference between card stock, Bristol and watercolor paper?

    • @IncludeaThankYou
      @IncludeaThankYou  Před 5 lety

      Sure, but these are my definitions and uses... Card stock is general paper we stamp on it comes in many weights from copier paper to cover stock... Watercolor paper is what i use for water colors and water color pencils... This can come in hot press or cold press textures, basically one is smooth and one is bumpy... Bristol paper is similar to watercolor paper but it is mainly used for watercolor pencils because of the smooth coating it has...
