      For me it's always been like one specific hair follicle is nagging me, and it's sending crawling feelings out around it. The longer i ignore it, the worse that gets. And i have to grab the patch of hair over crawly-feels and narrow things down to what one it is, hopefully... I'm usually wrong the first 50 times or more lol, i could spend all day trying to figure out the "golden hair" and fall asleep with my hands up there, looking til the last minute. The signals coming from the follicle keep me up at night, it makes my sleep paralysis worse too. Then it starts again elsewhere after i pull the right one, and i go on and on until i have dime sized wounds full of stubble all over the back of my head, hairline, and crown. The sensation is all-consuming when i try to brush my hair, leave it down, or adjust my ponytail(s). Any movement of the hair on my head during a less-intense period of a flare makes the crawling-tentacle sensation explode again, destroys my train of thought & lays on my anxiety function until my hands are up there.

      @leannapoole9611 Před 3 lety +2

      @@marysupernova7780 the way u described the crawling feeling is perfect. You just have to get that perfect one. I made a new years resolution for 2021 to not pull. It's been so hard but I just have to tell myself no and then do something else to distract me. Best of luck to u

    Have you seen the hairy Tangles? I know you said Tangles aren't the best for you since they don't keep you busy enough but the hairy Tangles have rubbery hair (like the pink bracelet and catapillars) so maybe that extra added feature would help!
    There is also a toy called the Pullers Pickers Fidget Ball which has little hairs on it that can be pulled out!!

    OH MY GOD-- I FINALLY REMEMBER HOW I TRIGGERED MY TRICHOTILLOMANIA!
    So, I had Crazy Aaron Thinking Putty and I got hair in it and I would pluck the hairs out of it with tweezers. Before the hair pulling started, I orginally had dermotillomania. But dang, this brings so much relief in me because I forgot how it all started; and that's how it started!!

    I find fidget cubes really helpful. Each of the 6 sides has a different function to play with. One side has spinners, one has a surface like a worry rock to rub, there’s a toggle, buttons you can click, a switch to push back and forth and another thing . This way if you get bored with one action you can just play with another side of the cube

    I have it since I am 11yo, it was triggered by my mother who sent me off to a special facility to train me because everbody thought I was just a brat that doesnt listen. When in reality I didnt pay attention in School because I just did not care any more. Not once did a teacher ask me how I was doing, even if he would, i would have ben to terrified of the consequences from my Mother. So it all started in that Facility where they treated me even harsher than I already was at home. Daily beating, staying up till midnight because i did not understand the homework. No food as a punishement for not understanding Math and so on. In the end I started to pull the Black starnds that where in my mostly blond hair. Cursing my Mother, why she sent me here. After that it all spiraled out of control. I would do it whenever I felt anxious, threatened, to much stress. Today I am now 29 years old. I managed many times to stop, if only for a short time. I tried many different things but they never worked. I am now on my next attemtp to stop the pulling and the longer i dont do it the bigger the urge to pull becomes. The Triggers I have theese days are no longer the same. Now it is mostly out of bordeom and just habbit. So whenever I reach for it I either slap my hand, pinch it or bite my fingers on it. What also helped is to have something to fidget on my fingers, but Dentalfloss and such things never really worked. What works for now is a simle metal armring that I can touch hard and rol between my fingers to get the same sensation in my hand. I wish everbody who has it, that they know they are NOT alone! And to not be ashamed of it.

    I use blu tack because I have it already and I don't want to make a big deal of it. My mum has noticed me pulling but she hasn't seen any major bald patches. I really like having my hair in French plaits but they expose the bald bits and she'd make it seem like a really drastic problem which isn't how I see it. I have most forms of bfrb too which sucks but I think I'd deal best with it on my own or just with friends (I think a couple of them have it too)
    Btw I only realised there was a name for this yesterday so I could be getting everything wrong.
    Wow that was longer than I intended.

      there are! you should research chewable jewelry. the most common are chewy necklaces, but there's other kinds too. it's mostly advertised as a sensory stim for people with autism (although it helps a lot with BFRB too) so you might want to consider checking out some websites that sell those products. i have dermatillomania, but a lot of regular fidget toys don't work for me because i need a very specific tactile sensation to keep my hands busy, so i've found some great products on sensory websites too.
