  • This is an S-788 military electronics shelter for a humvee converted into a camping trailer. It is mounted on an M-101A1 3/4 Ton military trailer. Enjoy my interior build out walk through featuring the Costway camping-oriented hot water heater, the Wave 3 propane heater, and the Blackout EZ blackout shades.

    I like the efficient use of small interior, just enough to get you out of the weather and efficiently rolling back down the highway .

    I have a s250 , always looking at inprovements to make. I like the idea above your door, the cargo cover used fora awning. Any way i could see some up close pics on how you mounted it? And what size is it? Thanks, and your looks great!

    Phew microwaves a BIG power eaters aren’t they? Seems like a lot of vanlife people really love their butane stoves, and they don’t take up much space! 🤷🏼‍♂️ nice build!

      I have 300watts of solar now and 250 amp hrs of battery - basically no concerns with running the microwave now

    Do you have a place on the trailer for a bike rack ? Looks like awesome build thanks for sharing your build !!!

      I don’t, I have a pickup so bikes go in the bed, but you could definitely fit the bikes in the camper too, the door is wider than the handle bars.

    daaamn, based upon the voice I fully expected the guy to be an actual jim henson muppet character.

    I just got one of these off Iron Planet. Is it hard to get the bed off the trailer, is it bolted or welded or both?

    Looks Great! I'm converting an S-250 right now. What was the wood you used for your bunks and where did you get it?

    • @SurplusCamping
      @SurplusCamping  Před 3 lety +1

      It's just 3/4 inch plywood. The trick is the edge stiffeners. You'd get tons of flexing and bending without the aluminum edge stiffeners.

      @@SurplusCamping Thanks for answering. Where did you get the stiffeners?

    How comfortable is it in the heat or cold? I’m looking at buying one now, thanks.

      They are NOT insulated and are cold/hot as the outside temp varies. Look for some sort of thin iso clad insul board (Widi board) ... I would skin the ENTIRE inside. The 788 always had a robust heating and cooling system when used by military. I have three of the 788s.

      I added a good amount of 1” foam board insulation on the roof, floor, and about 1/3 of the walls and now it’s pretty comfortable. Walls are aluminum so they got pretty cold before and would condensate bad
