My plant did so well last year and tripled in size on my front porch getting late afternoon sun. I left it on the porch in freezing temperatures (only a few random dips below freezing) and it completely died, all it's leaves wilted and went limp . I could not find any good videos on what to do to save it (not supposed to be out there in the cold anyway). I ended up cutting all the leaves to see if new shoots would come out, but instead the top of the stem started to shrivel and get mushy. I cut the stem down to where it was more healthy and after several warm weeks, just as I was losing hope, I see several new shoots coming from the dirt (not from the stalk like I expected). I'm so excited. After watching this video, I now want to trim the main stalks and see if I can get a few additional Dracaenas out of this!

That same thing happened to me. It died after being left out in a frost night here in the Midwest.
I kept it over the winter trying to find some info how to save it.
I added some crushed organic egg shells to the soil one night and within a few weeks it started to grow shoots out of the dead long stem, close to the bottom.
They must like the nutrients from the eggshells.

I just transplanted a dracaena marginata that I had for probably about ten years. I only recently got into houseplants and realized it had been in a completely inappropriate pot that whole time. Seeing this video really showed that. My plant is about four feet tall (including the pot) and had two major roots and only fine roots along the base of the pot. No wonder the head didn't grow back when I cut it. Fortunately, I only cut off one of the heads to start with.

I remember when in school for Horticulture a Dracaena like plant was one of the first plants Mrs Kinghorn first propagated for us and showed us how to do that. Hers sprouted beautifully, she had the cuttings laid on the side and I believe she scored them with a knife. It was only a Dracaena like plant, the parent plant was georous, perhaps a Datura. But her stems rooted beautifully, ours not so much. Teacher had done that procedure many times, we were just learning. Lol

Pour a Neem Oil blended solution into your soil to kill root dwelling pests. And use insecticidal soap sprayed on the exposed upper areas of the plant to kill pests. Both are ecologically friendly with no chemicals in them. In a gallon of lukewarm water, add 2 Tbsp of Bliss Neem Oil (Amazon) and 2 Tbsp of Dr. Bonners Castille Soap (at Whole Foods or Amazon). Need to keep it agitate with a whisk since the Neem Oil wants to separate from the water (which the soap aids in suspension). Don't use dish soap...to many plant harmful additives...Dr. Bonners is pure without additives. For the Insecticidal spray, into 1 Gallon of distilled water add 2 1/2 Tbsp Dr. Bonners Castile Soap and 2 1/2 Tbsp Canola Oil. Mix well and place in a spray bottle and mist all exterior surfaces to kill visible pests. It only kills on contact, so you should be able to see the knats to get to them. I use these two on my tomato plants and it keeps all critters under control without any chemicals. And no soil born mechanisms can survive the Neem Oil, which is not harmful to worms which you want in a garden.
