Historically, invading Russia has always been a mistake.
Hungarians and Runanians found that out to their cost when joining Germany in invading Russia in 41 . Occupation followed.
U r wrong..the mistake is that he had to go for russia first for the oil and then he can invade the rest of the world...
I really don't know about that but I learned that Hitler was so desperate for oil back then and he diverted his compgain on Moscow to south to get oil, which was his biggest mistake...I might be wrong but I think that he start the war toward the east and going west was his mistake bcuz England and france are easy and usa was not involved so he had to invade russia first...

I am a Serb. My grand grand father died fighting in a WW1, and my grand father was fighting in a WW2. Every time Russian brothers were our alies and we always were on the right side of the history. I am so proud of my Russian and all Soviet brothers, and of my brave Serbs. Glory to the heroes!

Only that Serbia under Nedic government was an official nazi ally until 1945. Croat Tito led partisans that were constituted of all Yugoslav nations and suffered most victims together with the Soviets and Poland.
Russians will never forget the horrors made by nazis during this war. You will never find a family in Russia where some of ancestors wasn't involved to fight the nazi enemy. No one suffered as much as our nation during this cruel war. We will always remember the greatest feat of our army and our parents. We honor their memory. Eternal glory to the Heroes who fell in battles.
I am from India. We salute Soviet army and they are the one who first of all defeated Nazis. Really they save the humanity. Great work.

Russia suffered but in percentage the ones that suffered the most were Germany itself, Poland and Yugoslavia. Poland more than half of their people were displaced during wartime and after the war during the eastern bloc in the Cold War. Unfortunately the Cold War brought the shackles back onto the countries that thought they were free

My grandfather Bakhriddin attended the War. And died here. He was HERO.

Co prawda kiedy przechodził front przez wieś moich przodków to musieli się ukryć w ziemiance w lesie przed żołnierzami Sowietów, ale przejście frontu trwało dwa dni a koszmar życia z z Niemcami pięć lat. Powojenna Polska? Gdyby nie Armia Sowiecka w 1945 nie byłoby żadnej Polski po 1945. Niemcy wymordowaliby nas do końca.

I am a Russian citizen living in Vladivostok. I am very proud of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers who saved the world from Nazism. The Soviet people lost about 27 million people in the Second World War. The most brutal battles of the entire war were on the eastern front. In the countries of the former USSR, the eastern front is called the Great Patriotic War. The name is because the entire Soviet people stood up to fight Hitlerism. Someone fought at the front, someone was a home front worker, and someone was a partisan in the territories occupied by the Nazis. Almost all families in our country had at least 1 hero of this terrible war. In Russia, they say, Neither who is forgotten, nor what is not forgotten,,.
My great-grandfather, Valentin Vasilyevich Teslya, was born and lived in Stavropol in 1924. When the Germans attacked the Soviet Union, he was 17 years old. He went to the front in late 1941 - early 1942. He fought in Stalingrad. In 1943, he lost his leg on a mine, but after replacing his leg with a prosthesis, he continued to fight. He participated in the Battle of Berlin. He died in 1987.

На последних кадрах этой документальной ленты на танке в Берлине сидит и курит Комаров Дмитрий Ефимович прошедший войну от Финляндии через Берлин до Японии. Он прижил свою жизнь в деревне Мендюкино недалеко от города Зарайска.
Полагаю, ваш родственник. Светлая память ему и всему народу-победителю. А вот мой прадед, к сожалению, не дожил. Сам с Цимлянска Ростовской области, а погиб где-то под Феодосией в 42, принимая участие в Керченско-Феодосийской десантной операции.

Один дед после Победы был комендантом одного из районов Берлина и в 1946 году вернулся домой, а второй дед после взятия Берлина, был на восстановлении г.Брест в Белоруссии, где смотрел за пленными, которые восстанавливали разрушенный в первые же дни войны город, после в 1946 г. вернулся на родину в Казахстан. Очень страшно, я всегда думаю, смогла ли бы я участвовать в той войне, уже в детстве задумывалась. Дед рассказывал, что провоевал только месяц, второй, в бою оторвало ногу, был связистом. Ползли ночью с проводами налаживать связь. Юный мальчик с ним был, немецкий знал хорошо, услышал, что рядом немцы про атаку говорили, вот они быстрее доложили командиру. На следующий день танки шли, за это был награждён. дед говорил, что фильмы не могут передать тот грохот боя.
Какие же невероятные люди на своих плечах вывезли такую войну, прошли от Москвы до Берлина...хрупкие жизни, спаянные стальными характерами, победившие нацизм. Вечная память их подвигу!

My dad was Scottish, as I am. He was drafted into the British (ie "English") army in 1939. He was in action at the battle of El Alamein, among other places. He sustained shrapnel wounds to his back. His 19-year-old brother, who was also in the army, was killed by a land mine.

More often than not, scenes like this were acted out in parts of Berlin that were fully under Russian Control. They would re-enact maneuvers or assaults for the camera. Only on occasion were shots taken right at the front lines

As an American, I can say I have much respect for the spirit, willpower, and strength of the Soviet Union. While we may not agree on ideology, I can definitely say the Soviets saved the world from Hitler and deserved their chance to become a world super power.
I hope in the current situation, our political leaders can reflect on the past to keep history from repeating itself. Regardless of our beliefs or difference, violence is never the way to solve a problem. Kindness, understanding, and cooperation can go a long way to making the world a better place.

In 1941 the Red army was 61% Russian, 20% Ukrainian, 4% Belorussian, 15% everyone else (the “natsmens” - national minorities). Russian language was a mandatory prerequisite for military service.
There was no country named Ukraine, Belarus till 1991.
