Love this series. Share it often with my Discipleship Group. And we are all in our 60's and we relate to the pace and presentation. Keep up the good work !

I love how, and the format with which you present the Word. I feel like you're talking directly to just me.

I’ve almost died. You could say I’m a KG veteran. Isiah 52:14. I’m no prophet. I’m no saint, indeed, I’m a sinner. But I will suffer for the truth to my grave so Christ’s death be not in vain.

May the 4th be with you! ...yesterday that is. Loving the videos -- I've been watching for a few months and have made it a part of my morning routine to help me wake up with the Word! Found your channel while watching Smarter Every Day and I'm glad I did. Thanks for the insight and for having such a balanced view point. Keep the videos coming because they are making an impact.

I want to invite you and your family to Tasmania so we can go fly fishing and hang out. The fact that your wife knits makes her even cooler in my eyes.

There's a chance we'll all be in New Zealand this spring, and we're thinking of heading to Australia or Tasmania. So I guess I'd say it's not out of the question.

Awesome fishing here I am told and hubby is keen to have someone with a bit more fishing experience to share some tips. No need for bear spray though... If you come this way drop me a line and we can sort something out with licenses and have it sorted before you get here. My church would probably love to host you.

Glad to have watched this video, I think I'll be keeping up with them as they come! It seems like a great way to get to know better the Bible, which is always a good idea :) thanks for sharing, Matt!

So glad you mentioned the sweatshirt/hoodie; I was admiring it all the way through your talk. Your wife knits really well, it is beautifully even and very nicely finished: my regards to her!
I'm working my way through Acts backwards, as I only discovered you via No Dumb Questions recently. I'm enjoying it, though - it's all good stuff, so thanks to you too, Matt ;-)

  • @IamGrimalkin

Interesting what you said about the Egyptian rebel and Josephus, reading that, I just assumed it might be a scrambled version of something about Jesus (came from Egypt when he was young, brought a group of 4000 people out into the wilderness, and on a similar occasion a group almost tried to make him king by force).
So if Paul was born in Tarsus but grew up in Jerusalem, how come he still hung around with the Hellenistic Jews rather than the Hebraic Jews? Shouldn't his Jerusalem upbringing have brought him closer to Hebrew group? Also, where does his from-birth Roman citizenship come from? What were the Roman rules on citizenship?

always great to hear that people had more fear of Roman government and it’s laws than God and His laws. just 🍑y 🤦‍♀️

is that a mini manatee statue on your desk?

    • @nathanaelschulz436
      @nathanaelschulz436 Před 7 lety +6

It’s THE mini manatee statue. Originally gifted from FL Gov. Jeb Bush to the "champions of the manatee" a group of manatee conservationists. Only 30 were ever created and Matt's parents acquired said manatee when it was mistakenly sold at a garage sale of a conservation club member who was moving. This member has repeatedly tried to buy back the statue but according to Matt “The intangible benefits that this object brings to my set for 10 minute bible hour is priceless” and that the “$750 dollar offer is just too low”. A bit of a random question that popped into my head today. How would they have confirmed Paul's citizenship? Couldn't anyone just say they were a roman citizen?

It's not an error, the church fathers used the same language to describe Aramaic. Hebrew as we know It, and as the Jewish people new it in the distant past, was not the local language at Jesus' time. Greek was the international trade language, and Aramaic was the language of the Hebrew people.

I was wondering why you were wearing the world's thickest sweater. Seriously, that thing looks thick!
It seems like the Jews were acting like they are jelus. Like they obeyed their father, did exactly what they were told, while their brother went out, partied, broke curfew... Then their father comes in and gives a gift that both can receive if they follow simple instructions. The brother is grateful and obeys while the jews are like, what the hey. We didn't go out and party. Why does he get the same gift as we do?
Back then, wasn't it fairly common for a religion to regional? I wonder if that also had something to do with it. Like, how dare Paul spread our religion. It's ours!
I am starting to better understand why Paul came back. It's not so much to build bridges, but to make a point. That salvation is for everyone. It's not a footnote, but the main thesis statement.

+610GARAGE I think you are exactly right man. I don't think he was on some kind of hero Quest, or that he was trying to when martyr points. Rather, I think this was the point all along, and that the gospel doesn't make any sense without pointing out that it must go to the Gentiles. By connecting those dots, Jesus the disciples and Paul are pointing out that Jesus is the completion of the covenants which talk about something much bigger then just one group of people being in communion with their God. The covenants of the Old Testament point to Redemption and a new kingdom with a perfect King that is the solution to the entirety of the human problem.
I believe Paul was thinking very big and long-term with his insistence on trying to convince his Jewish Brothers that Jesus was the Fulfillment of those Covenants they cherished so much comma and that now it was time for the Nations to be blessed through what God had done with his real.
I did this all on voice recognition while lying in bed, so please pardon all the horrible typos.
