All them daft windmills ,generating enough power to charge your camera for this video - theres 14th century working windmills in east anglia - hard wood & stone ,yet they provided enough power to grain an entire county in days ,always thought they helped was shocked to learn they are purposely underperforming for profit = by rights everyone should have one in the garden scaled down for house use

My sister is the manager of the restaurant at Haven (my niece - her daughter - is also a waitress). She also manages all the other food outlets, like the ice cream & candy floss vans, & the fast food outlets. She's also responsible for the bar & entertainment lounge. After one of her chefs had been teasing the staff (kind heartedly), she tied him to a chair in the entertainment lounge! She put a notice beside him instructing customers of what he'd done & for suggestions on how best to 'punish' him, by writing ideas on post-it notes & sticking them on the chef! Suffice to say, the kids on holiday, along with the adults, found this hilarious. The chef ended up covered in post-it notes!

Brilliant to see this Tim; I used to work here as a Haven Mate in 1998 and 1999, when the Carousel Club was the place for young families, Neptunes palace was pumping and Coasters Bar was was a great place to relax after a day taking part in all the action we got up to here during the day! Best years of my life! I love this place and always will 🥰

Hi Tim. I haven`t been to Caister for years, but I have many happy memories of holidays there as a kid. My family always went there almost every year from 1953 until the early 70`s. The Camp, or is it Centre, these days, as my dad knew the manager, a man named Micklewright if I remember rightly. At the time I think it was owned by a Yarmouth brewery (before Ladbrokes) Years ago the other site was called Silver Sands, and was all caravans. Next to the pool and beach was the Holiday Cafe (upstairs) and the Holiday Inn. The pool came later, around `66 and it was open air. I remember the Dining hall being built, as the camp was all full board, and the old dining room, shops and some facilities were on the other side of the main road. We even had a "lollypop man" to see the campers over the road at meal times. Also the old asbestos Reception building being replaced by the current one, some time in the late 50`s early 60`s. The now demolished Neptune`s was just called the Ballroom. It was run like a real old Hi De Hi place, but was great. There was Johny`s bike hire if you wanted to cycle into Yarmouth. We never had a car, so used to come up from South London by coach. When we first went there, it had only just lost it railway station, which had a reception in the Holiday Cafe. Sorry if I`ve gone on a bit, but I used to love holidays at Caister.

Thanks for the memories and the video. Don't feel as old for a change ! Didn't think this place still exists. The chalets have gone and the layout has changed but the beach is still deep and sandy with that long grass. This was my 1st holiday in '77 or' 78. I can't have been more than 4 years old.
Think it was run by Ladbrokes holidays back then.

I worked there for a number of years on the doors, in Neptunes and The Carousel. My last season was 1999, which was when I met my wife while she was on holiday there. Our family still have a holiday home on the park and get to go back every chance I get. So very different now, perhaps lost a lot of its character, but then I am biased LOL

We loved it there in the early 80s. Holiday Inn and Neptune's were great. I remember the guy upstairs doing portraits at Neptunes, and you could see the flames on the oil rigs out of the windows from there when it was dark. We used to always have chalets 160 and 161 opposite Neptunes.

I worked there in the mid 80s at Christmas over a few years. They used to have huge dinning facilities and catered full board for the three main days at Christmas. Big club house with bars and amusement. My point is they used to have better and larger facilities and have actually down sized the experience they offer.

My parents took us there every year for as long as I can remember. My grandparents always come with us and mum remembers going to sycamore campsite which where Tesco is now to this day my parents and grandparents still visit every year several times a year an avid members of the caister comunity centre pub. As you can imagine made friends with many locals over the years. My Nan actually managed to get one more visit in October before she sadly past dec 9th of cancer. She wants her ashes scattered in caister. To me it’s home from home but I never new just how old that site was. I remember we new the owner of caister camp an remember my last visit there before he sold it to heaven. Lovely fella. Did get to take my first born there before haven took over an got too expensive. Now we stay grassmere down the road. Thanks so much for this video.

Great video. I was last there in 1987. At the time travelling around the site could be done on 4 wheeled cycles. I also remember a donkey derby and an egg throwing competition while I was there!
Really good to see a site I went to years ago still in existence. Most the others I remember (mostly I.O.W.) are now either derelict or built over!

Wow so much has changed. I went to Caister as a child in the 80s - used to have once a year which turned to twice a year because we loved it so much (it was very early 80s until 1991). I used to love going to Starcruiser Club which ran by Captain Crumble (it was upstairs from the restaurant, going pass the shoe shop), I'm pretty sure there was another "captain" before Crumble, think his name was Ted and it was by the "old fort park"?. There was a game to play next door to photo shop, it was called Grand National where you keep rolling the ball into the numbered holes to get the plastic horse move to the finish line. There was a hire shop near the swimming pool. Donkey Derby held - fancy dress competition. In between swimming pool and photo shop there was laundrette, betting shop. There used to be a game room to play pools or table tennis. Think there was 2 tennis courts. Loved going to Neptune's Palace at nights. Fish & Chips opposite Neptune's... I could go on :D Thanks for doing the walk through.

This is the pure beauty of Haven caravan parks. They have a seaside feel, and most of their parks do have a sea next to it.
Haven holiday’s are just perfect, because they are not perfect. Contradicting, yes. But what makes a haven holiday a haven holiday is having a little problem in the caravans, or noisy children in the entertainment area.
And some great parts like the annoying, at the time, seagulls. Giving a good morning song.
At night, whilst enjoying some TV in the caravan, you can hear people passing by outside. Chatting away. It’s just beautiful.
Caravans in my opinion are the greatest.

Very good video. I understand things have to move on in terms of modernisation etc, but my family have some great memories of the park from around 30 years ago when Neptunes was the main entertainment venue. It was a sad day when we rolled up there one year and it was gone. There also used to be a small pub opposite Neptunes entrance with a children's play area in between. This was a lovely area on a summers evening with a good atmosphere.
There used to be donkey rides in the park on the main green and we had some great laughs playing on the camel races stall. Next to the lovely rose garden there was a small swimming pool which used to offer scuba lessons, we loved that too.
Yes there are more activities for kids and teenagers now but for me the place has lost the holiday feel we used to know and love.

I have so many memories of that place as I was in a jazz band and every October all the bands in the uk would spend a week there competing. We stayed in the caravans, chalets and even the two storey buildings. Sad to hear that Neptunes has gone. I remember a decrepit swimming pool and a childrens theatre. We were only ever there out of season so not much was open. I remember the fish and chip shop and it was the worst chippy I’d ever tried. But even that looks different now. I’d love to go back again. So many happy memories as we’d compete in the different camps to get through to the final. And the final would be in Neptune’s Palace. Would love to know if anyone remembers the bands there in the late 70s and 80s. It would take us between 8-10 hours to get there travelling up from wales in convoy and the highlight of our year

Hi Tim, well this brought back memories, been there a few times with family many years ago, I can remember Neptunes and there was an old style pub a little further down in front of the green where Neptune's stood, also funworks used to be the dining room with play area above it for indoor crafts etc, they've retained the rounded wall in front of mash & barrel that was part of the original dining room with massive windows all around, the new adventure park is where the old fashioned chalets were & the older venue next to the beach was near a drs/first aid office if my memory serves me correctly, it used to have a viewing area over the old pool, where the carousel venue was I think there was another unused pool, kind of makes sense now that they had added to the park, as we used to wonder why you had to walk out of the park onto a little road next to some private houses to get to the other venue, loved this one Tim, the areal shots are so good too, thanks for sharing, I've really enjoyed going down memory lane, xx👍👌😊

Neptune's palace was one of my favourite parts of the site, between 2003-2011 was a guy there called Martin, who worked in the Arcade, I was always given his set of keys to help manage the arcade. late 2000's I would help behind the bar glass collecting and helping the staff along with the upstairs food bar (name I cant remember). Was a member of staff called "marrik" who allowed me to collect glasses alongside him, I remember in tips from the public I was given £87.32 in only 4hours of collecting (being aged between 10 - 13 this was awesome) Door staff was amazing too Erik, Kevin and Stuart (stuart left and I believe is now on the busses) was my favourite doormen, never liked "Noodle"
I remember "strikes" was a old pub would be open till 4am on sunday nights for lock-ins during the times when WWF/E was on sky sports would have it played on the projector.
Seeing the changes is upsetting in the sense of its un-recognisable from my childhood but I'm thankful to have VHS Tapes to remind me of it.

The swimming pool with what used to be "the bull 'n' Bush, was closed after alot of reporting's plus too much hastle with cleaning. A train de-railed there many years ago before the site was built and the belief is that the blood on the walls was the ghosts haunting the old Bull and bush pub which is a shame, it had a lovely Games room upstairs, 6 snooker tables, and 4 pool tables along with 3-5 ping-pong tables.

I can tell you. Stayed here last year in a "silver" caravan. It was pretty rubbish. Miles away from the beach, grubby caravan. Family stayed here this year in a "bronze" caravan - stains on the carpet, shower didn't work, toilet was broken. Their caravan backed onto the beach but they couldn't see it because of the huge dunes. Other members of my family stayed in a "superior" caravan, was much nicer. Island in the kitchen, en-suite in the master bedroom and a terrace (still miles from the beach though).

Hi Tim, Im so glad that I foubd your channel.
Rhe way that Travellers are persecuted, I didnt think there was sucj things as holiday parks.
I actually remember one camp of caravans.
I thought whay the persecution then, if they have such things as rv parks?
As a 70 yro woman, I enjoy watching your adventures.
I do not see much interaction among fellow travellers...so, I enjoy when your whole family is together...you come alive.😊
Its good to see. Though how you endure the inhospitable atmosphere in a few of your accommodations...is beyond me.
There have only been a few out of all that I would care to visit. Why? Because, hospitality makes you feel like family.

We went to this holiday park in the late 1970s to early 1980s at Easter. We were members of 18 plus a type of grown up youth group with its main aim of getting drunk and having a good time and they took over the whole camp, we had the radio 1 roadshow with all the djs, noel edmonds, peter powell, mike read, dave lee travis. There were shows in neptunes with 70s pop groups groups of the time like Mud, and various other acts remember seeing the adult version of roger d courcy and nookie bear. So many happy memories. We stayed in the chalets which were like hi di hi and the silver sands caravan park. Sad to see neptunes is no more. It was a very basic holiday camp when we were there. I temember one of the girls posted cards to her family and as the park was closed they didnt arrive until may.

Where the high wire is now that used to be a tower and it had slides on it and rock climbing and a zip wire as well as little eletric bikes/cars for a token around a track, you hired the bikes and go carts there and on the other side was the golf area.
It has changed alot since 2019 when I went and it looks brilliant (definitely needed a do up) I cant wait to see it properly in August 😁 I just wish they built a outdoor pool or did the indoor pool up a bit
