I saw The Lion King twice onstage and loved it both times! I wanna go and see it in New York it's my dream! Mufasa taught me how to love my family respectfully as well as finding my place and being accepted in the circle of life!
When I finish my college course, I hope to go to drama school and then become Scar in the theatre production of the Lion King. I love his character, and I don't think anyone will ever be seen as Scar as much as Jeremy Irons was, but....well, I can dream :D :D Cheers for uploading, I love this kind of video :)
The Rafiki that I saw in the broadway Twin Cities performance was an Understudy and I'm so glad she did the show instead of the original actor, because she brought the character of both what they are saying in this clip and from what you recieve in the film, very comical and wise. She was also and amazing Vocalist so overall the Understudy I feel was much greater than the Original performer would have been
are u kidding me? Rafiki in the movie isn't spiritual, but he's funny, just a funny character? WHAT?! : / when i was little i always thought that he was funny, but also spiritual as well. Sheesh
DAAANG Andile Gumbi is hot! I saw him in the show the other day, and I thought he looked hot from a distance (I was sitting towards the back), but seeing him closer in the video, HOT!
I agree with your comment there. However, you do have to admit for those people who fell in love with the movie first, seeing Rafiki as a woman is a concept that takes a bit of getting used to, especially if they haven't seen the show yet. I had a hard time seeing Rafiki as a woman at first, but then once I saw the show, it made more sense.
That makes more sense. But I still disagree, I think Rafiki in the movie was very spiritual, not less spiritual than the Rafiki in the play, which is what I thought she was saying, unless I am completely confused and mistaken.
Well, if the Timon actor was acting around dressed as timon, then having the puppet is obsolete. If he's green, then he blends into the background with the puppet
Ive always loved Lion King ever since i was a kid,and the live show is cool, but i feel like they made the characters too human like. So im not a big fan of the live show, but i will always love the movie.
good evening fam it alright with our sis Ms.Julie Tamor if i could come up on stage & say something to all our fam on stage & all our fam sitting down in their seats?

Okay, I imagined it. Still fail to see your point. It's not like they sexualized the character and gave Rafiki and bra and panties as part of the costume. They just made it a female. It works. Just like it would work if they did it for Yoda. The gender really doesn't matter and it only becomes a problem when people like you MAKE it a problem. Your argument is coming off pretty sexist and ignorant.
zGood evening fam please be safe & careful on the road & going home & making sure all of yall are all alright & ok & i throw up my lionking on brodway 16 shirtsess, hatsess, hoodies, jackets, swetpants, keychain, charm & all of our fam on my facebook profile combinded
Rafiki works as a female. I don't see what your issue is with the gender change, the character doesn't even refer to it's gender in the show! It's just played by a woman. Not to mention that the show is so male-heavy.

There's nothing sexist about it, and I don't appreciate your attempts to get me riled up by using scare words like "sexist" and "ignorant". To put it another way, what if they changed a female character into a male? I'm sure a lot of people would get angry about that, probably yourself included.
You mean, like Nala? That's like changing Marcutio to a woman. She shouldn't have done that, but it's at least 10 years too late to change it. If not 15 years. Or more.
Not gonna lie. The opening scene is incredibly powerful. It moved me to tears.
I saw The Lion King twice onstage and loved it both times! I wanna go and see it in New York it's my dream! Mufasa taught me how to love my family respectfully as well as finding my place and being accepted in the circle of life!
The character of Rafiki on the West End works perfectly female, whatever her reasoning behind it is, Brown sounds amazing and it works with the songs
I just saw the show yesterday and it was amazing.
from the heart
Absolutely love this. #inspired
Got teary eyed just by watching the first part.
I'm in love with Zazu's costume.

I agree that Rafiki is the most spiritual character. I never said he wasn't.
No, I haven't seen the musical live, but I want to. I'm glad if Rafiki is spiritual and funny in both the paly and the movie.

She said that the character didn't have the spirituality it has NOW. She didn't say Rafiki wasn't spiritual at all.

They wanted Rafiki to be a female because they wanted more soul to the character and they also wanted another strong, lead female besides Nala.
Another reason why Julie Taymor wanted Rafiki to be female is because in the movie Circle of Life is sung by a female so she thought that by making Rafiki a female she would be able to keep that female voice.
Both good points.
Why dose scar want to be king ?
Mainly because he doesn’t want to feel like an outcast
The Simba actor is hot
jesus, which is everyone so annoyed and shocked at rafiki...
HELLO
IT'S THEATRE...
WOMEN PLAY MEN AND VICE VERSA ALL THE TIME.
Okay, I imagined it. Still fail to see your point.

the actual actor for simba is adam jacobs
WAYYYY HOTTER!!!!!!!!
There is just one thing that I don't understand. Why does the Timon Actor look like a broccoli??
I think because otherwise he will disappear in the background without that contrast-color.
that does make sense in the movie the circle of life song is sung by a girl that's why rafiki is a girl
Haha
Julie Taymor made Rafiki a woman because of the "lack of strong female personalities" in the original film.
There's nothing sexist about it, and I don't appreciate your attempts to get me riled up by using scare words like "sexist" and "ignorant". To put it another way, what if they changed a female character into a male? I'm sure a lot of people would get angry about that, probably yourself included.
The lion king looks like an amazing musical
e
Where's the real actors like Matthew broderick and Moria Kelly
Imagine if Yoda was made female.
You mean, like Nala?
That's like changing Marcutio to a woman. She shouldn't have done that, but it's at least 10 years too late to change it. If not 15 years. Or more.
Nonamearisto I have never heard anything as sexist as that in my life.
A question:
Why all Rafiki(S) in live are women, but the movie is man?
You know, in the movie version, Rafiki was played by a man.
This isn't the movie though
